Fine trick visually but it's hardly going to fool professionals making it a weird choice for Fool Us. I think if you're going to do this trick, you need to find a way to simulate going through the hoop while flying. The way they did the hoop, he landed right as the hoop was brought over his head, so it was possible to slacken the line, and then he went back through the hoop in a pretty obvious way. I'm just some guy and even on a single viewing it was clear to me exactly how they did it, so for P&T this is beyond child's play.

@@manusoftar I can tell you don't know much about magic. You're judging what a "really professional magician" is or "world do" based on what Copperfield (literally one of the riches men in the world) has done. You have no real practical knowledge on this other than what you have seen Copperfield do. And not only that, You don't even know how Copperfield's apparatus works. In order for wires to be invisible there is anything but "cheap" machinery here. And this routine is created for having ONE assistant. Which means he can do this on a lower budget cruise ship show, with is about 100 times better than anything else those budgets of shows would have.

The Copperfield flying technique, which Willi Auerbach is using, is very different from the standard Peter Pan "kid on a wire" effect. Copperfield's solution is much more sophisticated and graceful, allowing the performer to do a wide range of movements in flight. And it includes several "proof" moments, such as the hoops demonstrated here. The Copperfield rig remains the world's best live flying effect as far as I know. (And it's patented, so I'm surprised that Willi was allowed to perform it. He may have arranged a license with Copperfield and co.)

Sure. Putting on the Copperfield clip was a bit unkind but also kind of fair - this act lacked refinement and aesthetics and it was a "gentle nudge" to up their game or GTFO. It just seems strange to even let on this duo with their off-stage video act, it seems to break every rule of the show format.
@oktomcat

I agree. Copperfield had two rings going around him while this couple only used one ring and she did not put the ring over him until after he landed. Something I caught right away. It may seem cruel and unkind to show Copperfield's flying trick but magicians must realize that you do have to step up their act. It is tough because there is nothing new under the sun and therefore a magician has to add more complications to their act. This couple did have a good show though and I did like that.

The system was patented at the time and the patent has since expired allowing others to use it. You will notice that when he steps into his assistants ring, she has to back track after reaching his body length because the nylons prevent the ring from going any further.

Also most of these guys design their own illusions, that fit their style. If you really think about what's behind all these illusions, these are real pros, not people who just bought something off of Walmart dot com and started a show. This is why practically all stage shows have in the act a few close up pieces just to make sure the audience remembers that.

@@OfentseMwaseFilmsThe german magicians "Ehrlich Brothers" are doing this trick as well in their "Dream & Fly" show. They have improved this by flying "through" a box as well. They use a similar noisy background in their show and they perform it also very far in the back of their stage.

Ok guys everyone knows it is done with wires. It doesn't matter giving timestamps showing his tshirt moving because of the wire or whatever. The real magic is that he was able to find freaking thin enough and strong enough wires plus combine them with a flying system. Although there are about 5 systems for flying (mostly flying cameras in stadiums and TV studios), I've been searching the world for a thin yet strong enough wire that could hold me and still no result. THAT is the real magic he did and I applaud for that!
@egroegartfart
@egroegartfart 2 года назад
It's a really cool act. They did it really well. His shirt was pulled by the wire a couple of times when he was flying on his stomach. You can see it coming up to a point on his back. But other than that it was a great routine. Not sure why you would pick this one though to try and fool them. But nonetheless it was really cool. I'd love to see someone do a variation of this but where it would fool even magicians and people that know how it works. Hasn't been done yet.

Old trick done very well and with a new twist. The hoop ruins the illusion and gives away just how it's done. The hoop has never fooled the observant, just watch how it's moved and you'll know where he's attached.

@tonyb9735 2 года назад
True enough and anyway, there's really only one way to do the trick. It's really only a questiuon of how well they hide it, but that in itself can be an art form. Unfortunately, as you rightly point out, they dind't really achieve that very well.

Nice, beautiful flying act, Magic Man! :-) Please take special note of David Copperfield's "twin hoop provers" at 5:28, because it really knocks it out of the park to "prove" that he's not suspended from wires. (wink wink) I hope to see more from you in the future! :-)

@101perspective
@101perspective 3 года назад
@@flparg2 Yeah, it is a great performance. The cage, however, looks more impressive than I suspect it actually is. I mean, just because you put a lid on that cage doesn't mean the wires can't still be there. You assume the top is completely sealed. There could easily be openings. Heck the entire length could be open on both sides. You only need the lid to secure to two sides.
@ashahashah5508

David could not turn his body toward the audience when he was in the cage. The lid prevented the cable movement.

@Jamie . W I like to figure things out. Personally, I find the answer to how they did the trick to be exponentially more impressive than the tricks themselves. Especially if it requires tons of skill to pull it off. Now, that I answered your question, can you answer what your obsession is in regards to people who simply want to figure things out? Why does it even concern you? I mean, you don't have to read the comments.

I was really waiting for some twist to happen, something wonderful that would even have a chance of fooling Penn and Teller, but all we got was that amateurish ring and perhaps front-to back wire transfer. A far cry from the legendary Copperfield walking upside down in a fish tank. I still remember my disappointment when as a child I first saw the "levitation" illusion at a local stage performance .. it was a platform badly obscured by some hanging clothes .. plus I was just standing too close. From there, I never got to experience the awe of "flying illusion" without instantly getting disillusioned .. except perhaps the Copperfield one - but that was on TV . It just goes to show that flying is hard. And that makes me that much of a bigger fan of SpaceX.

I think this raises suspicion of the validity of the show. The shows employees and stage hands had to have a part in this, we know wires are used in this illusion, so the show has to be a part of this.

This gives me hope that humanity is in the hearts of many people today! God Bless You All! XO P.S. The Government could learn what real unselfish kinds of acts look like if they took the time to watch people who give from their hearts, instead of acting like children taking a tantrum when it comes to helping those in need! Seriously, this isn't a joke! It's tiring and selfish!
