THANK YOU for watching, these projects are more fun knowing that we get to share them with you!!! Thank you for your comments, kindness & support (even when it appears we're about to make a poor decision ;) we hope you have a great weekend!!! Love, Dawn & Tom
These two exhaust me. I keep watching and hoping that someday this beautiful little house on this lovely farm with this lovely family will settle. I could not live this unsettled life.
Agreed. Dawn said it in another video, it's kinda like a hobby to update the camper. Hopefully this third camper will be their Baby Bear though so they can spend more time camping.
@@trudiewells9446 it seems to bring them joy. I couldn't constantly update campers but I've rearranged my kids playroom about a dozen times in the last 2 years. It's a hobby. 🤷🏻♀️
There is power in renting campers! We have SHOPPED FOREVER and just decided to rent campers for a year until we find one we absolutely love and commit to.
I kind of wish we had done this! we bought a vehicle last summer that could tow... and then bought a camper in November. it is SO long (for 7 of us)! It's really intimidating to pull. We have only used it twice. And spent 19K on it.
@@kamehaz the per night cost of renting is high, but then you don't have all the storage fees, if you can't keep it on your property, or long term maintenance. Plus most people don't use them THAT much...and you can sometimes rent at your destination so you don't have to tow
I love that Tom is on the channel now. I feel like I remember watching an older video once where you made a comment about him being shy and not wanting to be on camera. He does so well! and your dynamic together is so lovely
Your parents are absolutely amazing, Dawn! I know you are aware, but wow! They are so giving and generous. No wonder you and Diana turned out to be such wonderful women. ❤️
@@TheMinimalMom As an experienced camper (I've camped since I was 9 months old. My parents camped the entire summer at a County Park until I was 14 and the county came up with this B.S. that you couldn't stay at the camp for more than 14 days. That ended my parents camping for 3-4 yrs until they found a place that allowed you to camp for the entire summer (privately owned campgrounds) for a fee. *************************************************************************************************** I think I've found a good reason to start a YT channel, giving experiences to first-time campers like yourselves. There's a lot of things about camping you obviously don't know and hey, you have to start somewhere, I get that. However, I think the outdoor kitchen concept (IMO) is ridiculous. We cooked over the fire, had a camp stove (Coleman Stove). I suggest a folding table, a crockpot, and a tripod for cooking over the fire. Individual cereal boxes (kids love things like that which they don't get often!!) Simple lunches and meals in the Crockpot OR over the fire. Remember, camping is for MOM too, it shouldn't be all work.
We don’t believe you when you say no more projects. We know there will be projects. Looking forward to see what the future holds with your new camper. You have done a great job with the last 2!
Many years camping, almost all “lack” counter space. If you look for one you can build a removable butcher block/wood top counter top extension with a single leg on the end of the island, you’ll open your options up. This small inexpensive and fast fix can often double your counter space :)
I have been watching you guys for over a year?? Maybe two. LOL !!!!!! You two are hilarious. I absolutely love you guys. I have learned so much from you. My favorite thing, is the interaction between the whole wife and husband relationship. Also, it is great how on Sundays, the sisters bring in the practical and spiritual applications to this lifestyle. Keep it up. It is so needed. May the Lord's blessings be in abundance over you all.
I have really small kids at home right now, so all our projects are on hold until they get a bit bigger. I'm living vicariously through your projects right now.
Haha! Love that Minnesota mentality! Lets paint when its 20 degrees thats definitely warm enough! Same girl, same. Didnt work out too well when I tried to spring clean my windows at that temp 🙃
You guys have the most compelling titles to your videos. Great job reeling me in! 🎣 Glad you are happy with your new camper. Wish I was a wheeler and dealer like Tom.
I honestly HATE being click-bait-y, but if we would call this "Final Camper Before & Afters" it would get half as many views...I guess we're all drawn to a little drama ;)
Y'all are so fun! My parents were full-time RVers for 15 years. I miss the RV lifestyle and traveling with them. Best wishes on choosing your next camper!
Here I am going on year 5 and we are DONE! We have a larger 5th-wheel too and I still complain about lack of space all the time for a family of 3. I want my big house back. We are in limbo right now waiting for a nice rental house to open up and we are selling this and never looking back. Yes we have good memories but this past year has been a lot of troubles (we bought used but it was barely used...some fade on the outside but inside was nice). We have never and would never paint the inside. Not due to weight but the pain of it. If I will never paint inside a regular stick-n-brick house again (will hire that done if I ever want to paint a house again), I sure am not painting inside a rv!
I have to say a huge Thank You for all of your encouragement to have me get stuff out of my house. I pray for wisdom everyday and you have been the voice of wisdom for me. I have just gotten started on getting rid of stuff, but I can already see a difference and I see the peace that it will bring. We are celebrating our 30 yr wedding anniversary this year and that means a huge amount of stuff has been accumulated. I am ready for it to go, well most of it. I listen to your videos everyday to stay encouraged and so thank you for putting them out there!
That very wrong green was the color of our bedroom when we bought our house. We lived with it for 12 years while we remodeled and redecorated every other room in the house. I was putting it off because I wanted to remodel the open closet space first. I didn't want to have to paint the closet all over again after the remodel. After listening to your minimalism videos and Laura Hutchinson's RU-vid videos on decluttering, I minimized my wardrobe and realized that the closet no longer needed a remodel -- there was more than enough hanging space and shelves for the wardrobe I had left. It was such a wonderful feeling to finally have soothing taupe walls. Thanks!
Around here, you can rent things. Perhaps try doing that! p.s. I’m reminded of a comedian who once said that Elizabeth Taylor didn’t have to marry everyone she dated. Maybe you should date campers for awhile
Hilaroius Liz Taylor quip! I have wondered about renting one also but you have to have a good truck.. I wonder if any camp grounds have places to rent.. I am a Nube on this..
@@unitedheartsamerica5924 definitely some campgrounds have campers to rent! we like to do cabin rentals sometimes instead of tent camping. just got our first camper.
@@unitedheartsamerica5924 I haven't done this but looked into renting one once and they even offered delivering it and setting it up. It was pricy though.
That's the exact model our family just purchased this year. Our family of 7 really enjoyed it on our first trip out. Ours did have the outdoor kitchen on the back in place of the 4th bunk. That really does make all the difference. I love how you flipped the master bed. I have to sleep crumpled up as I'm 6'4". My wheels are turning.... But first I need to finish my home projects. Lol. I agree about length and size. I wish they still made the excursion. I had to buy an expedition to get a seven seater that would handle the 9k+ lbs. It's a little under powered but it's mechanicaly sound which was my biggest priority. We've broken down on vacation before with all the kids. Es no bueno. Best of luck finding just the right model.
I love how well you all take care of your things. Even if they get passed along eventually, you really put the time and the work and the love into everything you own. It is a very "rich" mentality and it perfectly lines up with a minimalist life: Buy less, and take care of your stuff more.
Just Love you both. 💕 Good Luck with "Not doing anything" on your "new Camper". You both are "Progect People." Once you pull a thread it will all unravel. It will make good value videos. 👌
I can't believe you are getting rid of this beautiful camper after all the hard work you put into making it so nice inside and out, and yet I understand all your reasons for it. My husband and I are looking for a small camper, and we are learning a lot from your ideas as well as things you'd do differently. You are saving us a lot of mistakes, so thank you! I hope you find exactly the right one next time - something you can enjoy for years to come!
We lived in our camper for 4 months while our home was being built. It worked out great. It was a blessing and it made our small new house 🏠 feel huge when we moved in 😁
Great deal! Lots of work. We bought a 21 ft.er a YEAR ago, & haven’t camped once! It’s about to become my art studio if we don’t go in the nixed two weeks! We named it The Cracker Box Palace. Lol... But I may be renaming it Messy Mendys Studio! ( Or Minimalistic Mendy’s Mess)! Thanks for all of your videos. Y’all are great! 🙏🏻🖌🤗
I don't blame you for not wanting to renovate a camper anymore!! We've had one for about 6 years now and just recently bought a brand new one. After having to do a ton of maintenance to keep the slide out seams from leaking we decided no more slide outs for us if we can help it. (Although the extra space they give you is nice) We went completely minimal with ours and it just has a small kitchenette, a bathroom, happyjak bed (Comes down from the ceiling) but we like it so much better than our older, larger 'fancy' camper. We mainly boondock at places in our state but I can't wait to take it somewhere like Florida!
There are no perfect campers. We learn as we go! I don’t have an outdoor kitchen on my rig, but I have heard from others who wanted them that they never get used😄. We bought a smaller motorhome for quick and easy travel with our kiddos, but you are sacrificing something no matter what. You just have to choose what works best for your family in this moment! Have a great summer!!
Wow! Your husband is a saint....well he's young too. We are just finishing up a kitchen remodel and right this minute at 8:59 mine is in his chair, falling asleep after running to work and the grocery store. No he did not do the remodel, but he did lots of ancillary work like tearing it out, putting in the hood and working on the duct work through the roof, but the roofers came and did work on that. We are really hoping to get a camper to travel throughout the United States after his retirement in a few years. You guys remind me of my youngest daughter and her former Marine husband (who is now legally blind). They just sold their tiny California home for $70,000 more than the mini-mansion they are buying in Texas. The completely redid the tiny home (1237 sf) and added a third daughter. I was there yesterday and baby girl was in the jumpy thing while the older girls (6&12) were helping do stuff. My daughter was walking around with putty filling holes in the walls for their buyers (another military family). My husband does excellent work, but right now we are concentrating on our garden. He built a new very large greenhouse from a kit from Home Depot that has a ton of tomatoes and peppers in it. Good on you guys!
Where oh where do you two get your energy? Wish you could bottle it and sell it! I'd buy a bunch of it!!! 🤣 Both campers were just BEAUTIFUL when you finished with them!
Dear Dawn, even if it is not related to this video at all, I just wanna thank you again from the bottom of my heart for all the change you have motivated me through. I cannot believe how joyful life has become again thanks to your tips and tricks and suggestions an knowledge and love 😄😉😍. You and your family are truly a gem ❣❣❣
So, it is a new season for us, no more 4H, kids are grown. We are doing seasonal camping which means we pay a fee to park the camper at a campground from May-November. We pack a little bag and we go 45 minutes away every weekend! Just an idea, park it and go more often!
You two have done so much renovation and learned so much about what would be the best camper for your family that I'm sure you'll find the perfect one. I hope you find it quickly! XO❤
Between minimalism and trying to get debt free, and now being empty nester and newly single, I’m seriously considering either a small class c or a van conversion for full time living!! Dawn, you know I love you! I may take your ideas to the next level and declutter my whole house!
Just an idea... another family's buying your camper as a place to live while their house is being built. You're planning to move your house in the future. What if you finish your shed & turn it into a guest house/office (your original plan) with the idea of living there while the house is moved? The kids are old enough to draw up their designs for the space. (Educational) Nothing like a real project to apply their math skills. Just a thought...
We bought a 2021 camper this year and they told us to re seal the seams every 3 to 6 months to prevent it from leaking. Camper's take alot of maintenance.
Yes, this!!!! Insurance will NOT cover if it isn't done like that and have paperwork to prove it!!! Went through that last summer with our insurance and we are trying to get out of ours after 4.5 years of full-timing (yes we had bought used but good condition). Still trying to find a rental house in this tight market. I won't ever full-time again. Fun in the beginning but tight space after while (and we have a larger 5th-wheel, family of 3) and most of our stuff is in storage, not with us.
We just bought a camper at a permanent seasonal site at the beach - thanks to you guys I didn’t panic (too much) when we found extensive water damage and rot. My husband ripped everything out and repaired it and we’re excitedly spending our first weekend here! Next up - the exterior. Thanks for paving the way 😂
You guys are awesome! The dynamic between the two of you ❤️ You are very ambitious and I love that you continue to hit yourselves in the face to further your own cause and it provides amazing content 😉 both the campers look so fresh and stylish! And It will only get better with the next! We landed an amazing condition prowler camper, and have only camped once and want to be all in! If we follow the advice of the rest of your channel we could simplify our crazy family of seven, self employed life and do more of it! Our camper has a similar layout to your second and I want to add some white paint and love on it a bit also, you always inspire me. Thank you!
Glad you were able to sell it after using it a few times. I agree white in campers is great. So many R.Vs and campers are the dark brown and not sure why they do that. That is why there are magic erasers to wipe things down with it.
I think this has all been your journey to find out what you really want in a camper. You make it look easier than it is ☺. There's a campground not that far away from us and we walk through it. It's amazing how people have their lots set up with their name signs and patio lights. It's a real community. It makes me want to have a camper to park there just to get away for the weekends.
Camping is the best way to travel with kids. I camped as a kid in a homemade camper year round in Canada. We took our kids camping all over Canada and the US, and we still camp with friends and by ourselves.
You guys are such a team! You don't think alike which makes you both necessary to your team lol You're always trying new things, learning from it and sharing with us. Thanks for a great video.
We had a camper for several years and it definitely was NOT our thing. We love being outside but I like my bed to sleep in. Just as a word of caution to anyone considering it: They are expensive to maintain and store (plus insurance and plates), and it was a huge pain for us to attach/detach/set up camp when we had 2 small kids at the time and my husband has difficulty focusing on those kind of things. I think if you know for sure you're "camping people" then go for it. If you're not sure, then you probably aren't "camping people." Happy for you and love you show!
My boyfriend and I live in Southern California and the beginning of Covid we wanted a Camper because we have friends that camp a lot....But now too expensive. We are still looking for that perfect one for us to make it us. I'm so jealous!!!
OMG.......Your friend's comment! Perfectly sums you up..... and we keep watching!!!!! You did a seriously gorgeous job and who ever did buy it is so going to enjoy the work you put in. I bet they make money if/when they go to sell it to someone interested in a Tiny Home.
I'm more like Jim Gaffigan when it comes to camping. No thanks. Plus it's too close to being homeless. And that is something that a time some of us have been very close to. So it brings no joy within me to be in any kind of a camper. I want my snuggle --- but you enjoy it because it's beautiful...
sounds like it will make a good home for the new owners so that's a win and you got to enjoy it and you learned a lot of what you want and what will work for your family 💕
That was quite the journey! Campers are never ending work but if you keep everything sealed properly, wash and wax, you’ll have it for years to enjoy. Maybe you should consider a heftier tow vehicle before the next one? Can’t wait to see where this goes😊
Tom: We would like more kitchen counter space. Also Tom: We would like a bigger bathroom. Also Tom: So we would like to shrink this whole camper. Me: 🤔
The last camper finished beautifully. I had ideas of painting a room the color of a green bottle. Paint chips look great. I am amazed when I click the virtual function on a paint company site and find it was not what I thought when applied on a wall size scale..
Well, I've been on Team "You Should Keep It" from the beginning, but I'm really looking forward to seeing the next adventure and what you replace it with!
Have you guys ever considered flipping campers and turning them into AirBnbs?! Your remodels are absolutely beautiful and so many people could enjoy them that way! It’s also a great promotional and money making opportunity for you too!💗
Aww Dawn this made me laugh, I’ve always wanted a VW camper van (uk) and my husband thinks I’m crazy! But we’ve compromised I’m getting a Champervan (as in champagne bar in a VW camper van!) 😂 xx
When our kids were in Rodeo we camped with a couple who had taken a school bus and repurposed it to a camper. The outside looked like a bus but the inside was super cool. Personally I would have painted the outside but just an idea 💡. You could pull a vehicle behind you
Here’s an idea, find a camper that has a slide out master bed? In order to have a camper of lighter weight and still have enough room for the kids this is probably your best option. Not a fabric/canvas, a hard sided slide out.
Camping is usually affiliated with roughing it and not worrying about a designer home on rolling wheels. Would you paint the inside of your tent if it didn't suit you? Yes facetious I am, but as the other comments have stated, when do you not have a project on? Maybe just rent a trailer for a couple of weeks? You two are better than anything else on television! Hugs to you all!
Yes, long camper would make a great GUEST HOUSE if you have the property. Also ideal for a remote vacation property without a building - like a prefab cabin. AIR B&B? Rent Nomadland...
I just love you guys! Thanks for sharing your family and adventures with us. You guys are so relatable and entertaining to watch, I think you provide a lot of value to the RU-vid community!
Ooh can you do a video(s) on family camping? I don't think I've seen that on your channel. Like what to pack for kids, what to pack for us parents, easy food hacks. Heck - how to park a trailer!
