@@thisismyusername6717 Maybe laughing at the comment is kind of like laughing at ones misfortune. I laughed at the comment as well, I've been in homes like this to do work.
I actually remember the video from last year. The brother destroyed the fuse box trying to put in the wrong type S fuses. What a dump; your a good man to have actually went in and worked in there.
Yeah I went back and watched that one again, the house was no where near as bad and the bathroom walls were up but it was definitely on its way, also in the first video she said "I never let the cats into the basement"
Pretty sure I remember videos from way back when the mother was still alive with the adult “kids” living there. Pretty sure Steve had to fix up the bathroom sink down there, because Jr was treating it like a kitchen sink with a garbage disposal. The house was a stye then, but wasn’t the total rotten mess it is now.
@@catsfightsandsights1957 "I never let the cats in the basement." As the camera pans across a vast sea of cat turds and used litter on the basement floor...
I procrastinated calling a hvac man because I had too much clutter and I could imagine the hvac guy saying "This is no Taj Mahal, what a shit show" on youtube lol. Nobody wants to be that guy.
Honestly, at that age I don't know if I'd rather continue living like that, or end up with people all over me. "We're here to help you" is a very frightening statement, especially with people getting more nasty, vicious, cold and vile. At best she would be a caseload. But worse than that could very well be hell on earth. I know what others might be thinking about this post, but I have extreme trust issues and PTSD thanks to other people
They need to put her in a nursing home, call a hazmat company and let them put everything into a dumpster, clean and sanitize the house, fix it up and sell it or sell it as is
Love your channel. The fact that you know exactly what a shit show you are going to with her, but still do it, really says something to your character. You are a hell of a good human. It’s not like you are fixing to go broke, you could tell her to piss off and have a nice relaxing day without any financial worries. You go willingly into that disaster to help someone, maybe make a buck, maybe not. I look up to ya man, and I’m not even in your trade, just a long time fan. Thanks for all you do, sir. You are far stronger than I am.
Probably the most disgusting creepy job I can remember was going on a service call to troubleshoot some receptacles with no power in a double wide trailer. The guy that owned it was creepy as hell. He was in his late 50’s but he had a shrine of of Britney Spears pictures plastered wall to wall, cut from magazines and posters in the bedroom room where the bad receptacles I was troubleshooting were. I didn’t want to touch a damn thing in that room. If you lit up a black light in that room my guess is the whole room probably would’ve been glowing. The house had a terrible odor to it. The house could have been on an episode of hoarders. I almost tripped over a mummified cat in one bedroom. I was getting some very strong Norman Bates Ed Gein serial killer type vibes. If he would have walked up behind me and startled me, he probably would’ve ended up catching a claw hammer to the skull. I thought for sure I would find his mother’s mummified corpse somewhere in that house when I went looking for the breaker panel. I literally couldn’t get out of there fast enough. When I got back to the shop I told the owner of the electrical service company I worked for, don’t ever send me there again.
Hey Steve! you ever hear the saying "I once complained about having no shoes until i seen a man with no feet." God love her. You gave her a few laughs and made her day. Another great video thanks JR.

what's scary is the amount of single and worse, childless, people going into their 50s. We're going to have an epidemic of cases like this in 20-30 years.
@@ghost2coast296 Having children doesn't guarantee they will take case of you in your old age. My 99 year old mom has 5 kids but has a caretaker and lives alone. She doesn't want to be a burden to her kids although she has a kid to take care of her finances.
@@WTFIsThisGuyDoing233 You seem to be exercising your White Arian Privilege by bringing race into this, stop watching Fox News. Thanks for keeping those that care, apprised of what racial group the elderly woman belongs to. You’re very much like Creepy Uncle Joe, you don’t know who you are, what your saying or which porn picture you like best on Hunter’s laptop.
I'd just have to walk away and burn my clothes afterwards. I professionally installed security systems for years and ran into this repeatedly. And on more than one occasion I refused service for this exact reason. No one ever thinks how much service industry techs put their health on the line to provide these types of services.
"When ever someone says "excuse the mess" their house is usually spotless.". I work in the multifamily industry and can vouch that this is absolutely 100% true,.
Yup When go to customer house and say that i look around go what mess lol. When you have kids yes it can be at times hard keep clean but way different then this situation
I can picture Steve’s face when she said she had $500. Like hell yeah, I’m not getting stiffed like I thought. Fly sh*t, tetanus shots, commentary had my dying on this one. Lmao
Definitely a sad situation, I know you have no relation to her but you should definitely consider calling APS (Adult Protective Services) she needs help. Good thing it was a newer furnace.
You deserve a lot of credit! I would have turned around when it came time to stick my hand through the broken window. I wouldn't have left a tag either. I can't imagine anyone wanting their name associated with that mess. You're a good man Steve.
When I was a child we had a neighbor like this very situation but maybe worse. She was elderly and living in the home she grew up in still. Her parents long gone. My father was always fixing her appliances, heat, and car. When she died she left just over 2 million dollars to a cat rescue in San Diego. It made the local news. Turns out her father was a very wealthy geologist for mining companies and she inherited his fortune when he died.
Poor lady, hopefully she'll be able to make it through another winter 🙏. At least you got paid and it was just a t stat and filter change! God bless you, Steve, your a life saver for a lot of the seniors in the area!
@south968 I think he may have only charged for the service call, which was probably around $100.00 if that ! It's tough when you get old and don't get around too well, my mom has her good days and bad days, I hope that the lady who called Steve has some good neighbors, those stairs don't look too safe for her ! Noticed that she pulled out some of the carpet, possible trip hazard for her !
@@DavidJohnson-tv2nn David, if I may...some HVAC guys are crooks for sure. But I don`t think Steve is like that. We saw the condition of that filter and the home in general. Disarray. I believe that Steve was actually looking out for the lady since she could not be counted on to obtain or replace batteries, and the old t-stat could have failed this winter and involved another no-heat situation and service call expense. I believe that he judged that it was time to replace that stat. Besides, the electrical box in that home was haywire and likely had compromised the old stat. I base this upon watching many of Steve`s v-logs. (Other than that, if Steve makes political comments on these presentations I believe that it is appropriate for you and others to as well). Politics involve (or infect) every aspect of life: especially HVAC),
@@craigharding475 yes most contractors are crooks!! I know what they pay for equipment I know what mechanics pay for the parts that they fix your car with yes they're crooks!!! Knowledge is power...
@@philllsxga.7737 Thanks for the comment, Phil. It is a sad situation. And knowledge is the key to any negotiation, as you wisely point out. I have found that these on-line reviews and "Lists" are unreliable as well. The best source is family, friends and neighbors.
Doesn't know if she can pay ya, but she sure as hell has 20 packs of smokes kicking around. What an absolute dump! "I should level the place.." Yes you should. 🤢
Could make a call to the local DSS, and talk to someone in Adult Protective Services, and have them do a home visit, and get her some help. She may need to be in an assisted living place.
There is an internet personality that lived worse than this. People called the Virginia protective services multiple times and they made a visit and wrote it off until the guy went to prison. They almost never do anything unless there is money or someone is in immediate deathly danger.
my dad was shoved in an assisted living center, he died 2 years later. lived super healthy at home, but just 1 fall and living alone warranted the state to take him.
@@B.r.i.a.n.1 That's an abusive situation for her pets and her LUNGS will fall apart with all the junk in the air from cat p00p and filth. I've seen people in much better shape who were removed for 1/100th the amount of filth.
No heat call October 4th was in the 70’s. No wonder everyone complains the price of oil is to high. That’s too early in a oil burner mechanics season to start with that 🤷
Steve, you are a credit to the human race. I found your channel because I had an issue with my oil burner. Sure wish you were in my neighborhood. Keep on brother...
Unfortunately, welcome to the world of being an HVAC tech. Been there, done it(37yrs). Glad to be retired. The best thing to do is keep the conversation to a minimum, get it working, and hope to leave without any hitchhikers (fleas, roaches) and to get paid.
I agree I went to a service call a long time ago I about puked when I left I went straight to a gas station and washed as muchas I could in the sink blessed the sole that had left heavy duty industrial cleaner by the sink I used to got home striped on the porch took a shower immediately also had to use gloves
I was just thinking the other day that my favorite video was the first time you went to this house and climbed over the mattress to get to the jacked up fuse box. Looks like things are worse than before!
Lol, that wasn't his first visit though! He installed that sink in the bathroom. The mother was alive and bought it and he installed it. Only to discover the drain was blocked solid and so he had to clear it. The daughter; this lady here, told him he could come and lay on the bed and watch tv with her for 30-minutes. That was her answer to his question of who was paying him! Lol!
I work in home health care and see conditions like this more than I want. I try to get help but as long as the home owner/resident is termed "competent" then nothing can be done to help them out. Sad situation in my opinion.
Damn I remember that dump. If I remember correctly you wouldn't even work on it last time until they got a electrician in there to fix that shit show. Your a better man than me Steve, I would take one look at that nightmare and tell her "Your going to have to call someone else, I'm not working in this mess."
"Doing one's best to relieve the suffering of someone who's existence is a literal 'shit-show, momma' ": = PRICELESS!! Those white blankets with the blue stripe she has laying around the ground are called "ether" blankets from hospitals. I work in a facility that washes medical laundry. I wonder where she got them.
Surprisingly these are houses I walk in all the time while working on the ambulance, tons of people live like this and see no issue with it from dog urine/feces to human, trash, moldy food, maggots, etc etc etc it go’s on and on not a single day where we don’t see a house worse than this.
Oof. I could actually smell this place throughout your walkthrough video. Been in houses like this, and it’s always disgusting… very unfortunate that some people live like this.
I saw that, too. It's a ball valve. I think it's for the gas exhaust pipe venting the Carbon Monoxide to the outside. Some people shut them off in the spring.
I did in home sales from santa cruise to frisco.. hoarders were amazing.. whole sections hidden from view..other cockroaches hugh ones all over cooktop where they were cooking... like whatever.. or Palo alto a colored lady I was consulting on her kitchen very nice lady I gave her honest answers, info she was happy to get..son came in stated want me to kick his ass..wtf..mom no i like him... i slid my rolex under my silk jacket... damn that sucked big time.. you would not believe the disgusting homes I went into.. now worth millions
