Hey honeys Here is my first quick and easy video, on how to achieve no heat curls! (Bantu Knots) If you liked this video and would like too see more Comment, Like and subscribe! contact: Caseypetchey@gmail.com
Y'all stop saying cultural appropriation and start saying cultural appreciation. And the point of this video is how to get curls without getting heat damage.
Afro Reactions I am so happy someone finally said this. I feel like "cultural appropriation" is just a way we are all slowly segregating ourselves from each other. If you can't appreciate someone's lifestyle and culture your just stuck being like...yeah love your hair. It's great. Yup.
I could understand if she didn't call it by name (Bantu knots), but that's not the case so don't be upset. Girl is just trying a hairstyle to make her hair curly. My hair is not naturally straight but I've gotten it relaxed and straightened in the past so why trip? Hop off lmao, let her do her.
Its Elizabeth No Bantu knots are not from ALL BLACKS...it's not even from ALL AFRICANS...it's from the Bantu people specifically...there are a lot of tribes in Africa you know... So only Bantu people have the right to be offended if this is cultural appropriation...if you're just some black chick from Michigan or Alabama then chill out...
I am so thankful African American hairstyles is reaching different cultures. is time to break out the ignorance that a hairstyle belong to any one culture or a person and getting a sophisticated level of thinking and acceptance. if we really want people to accept us and to treat us with respect we must first present ourselves with with respect and be able to communicate our heritage and allow people to respectfully explore and use our heritage. at the end of the day all of this ignorant hype about it's a black hairstyles or keeping any one individual, place, tradition, form of style to out self or looking down upon other people and cultural who try repeat what we do or say is only going to make our people and cultural look more ignorant
As a person of color, I totally agree. Let's just have fun with something we can all experiment with. I enjoyed seeing her beautiful curls, and it's fun that we all can have this great experience together with pretty bantu knot curls.
child bye if we still have to fight to have our hair in the works place and in schools then I will not praise someone who can easily revert back to the standard Eurocentric ideal of acceptable hair
Her curls didn't even come out right to be honest our hairstyles is not for every race because no race have African american texture hair unless you have our background. Like solange said It’s a crown: not a sideshow for white commentary, judgment, entertainment or amusement. It’s attached to our bodies and we cant change it even after we past judgment from other races.
Y'all should calm the fuck down. She didn't walk down the street with the Bantu knot. It is a protective hairstyle and she only used it to curl her hair naturally without heat. Calm the fuck down tbh coz we all gonna do anything to make things easier and faster and bantu knot is more healthier and safer than using heat. We all gonna do anything to make our hair survive so whether u are white, black, Asian, Latino, Hispanic , green, orange, indigo, blue, pink, or turquoise we females need to accept ourself and see ourself as one like we girls have problem. U don't see black boys, white boys, Latino boys, Asian boys etc fighting about things. We need to get our shit together and realize that we are girls and we should come together to do something that will make our life easier as a female. And also what is the ranting about. She called it Bantu knot and she didn't walk down the street with it. Pls don't let the media tear us apart we should be strong
I'm just happy she called it what it is which gives props to the culture that this hairstyle stems from. I'm all up for different cultures learning and inspiring from others, it's how we'll grow. She did a good job 👏🏿.
Probably should've used mousse so that the hair could've held the curl a lot better. That way it wouldn't look wonky in some places, like the straight pieces. Other than that it came out really good.
xNaeja ok it was the first time Doing it everyone needs to get a grip it's no biggie ... I learn from things just like any normal person so I think everyone needs to stop crying over this tutorial I was just trying to show people how to get curls without using heat what's the problem 😒👀
Baldi Lockz this person wasn't even crying, she wad just saying that you should've used mousse.. it'd make more sense to do it on a different comment that went along with the orignal comment.
Why didn't you direct that sour energy towards the hethans below who were actually coming for you? This girl was literally trying to give you some helpful pointers so it could come out a little better if you decide to do it again. Tf?
These comments are disgusting, like why are you guys so butt hurt over some bantu knots? It's like saying white people don't have the privilege to wear these? That is racism right there. What do we differ? On the color of our skin, hair, features? We are all humans we die and we look same. I can't believe people are clicking on this video to talk filth. She just wanted to see how she would look with curly hair and used this method which is pretty simple. Don't get why people make a huge deal about it.
IB RA "we are all humans we die and and we look same" ... isn't that the same thing African Americans were/are saying? yet we still get hit with racism lol.
Nyla Lofters I'm sorry you guys have to go through that, but the hate is not coming from her, she's not disrespecting you or your race. She wanted to curl her hair and did the hairstyle as a method for it. I know what it's like to being made fun of but don't hold the hate against the people who appreciates your culture.

IB RA mmm yet you white people get mad when black people where weaves and have the nerve to ask if black people's hair is "fake" or "real?" Lol don't act like some of y'all did not do anything. In Fact, both of our races need to chill out and stop bashing on each other's culture. We're all fucking equal. You see this is why I hate people and lowkey want to jump off a bridge 💀
Ugh I'm black and these comments are disgusting. There is absolutely no problem with any race doing Bantu knots unless it's CREDITED, meaning she didn't name it "small buns" or anything other than its proper name, which she clearly didn't. I understand why some people WOULD be upset but there's no need to be upset since this is clearly NOT cultural appropriation. This is just hair. Don't we straighten our hair which is more typical to "caucasians"? Yes some black people have silkier hair but some white people also have curly hair just as black people. So please stop with the negativity and blaming the poor girl for something she didn't do!
gina mills you lost me after you made the comment about straightening hair literally doesn't compare at all whit epeople don't have a culture lol. Yes you are correct this isn't cultural appropriation and she did name it correctly but compareing white people having curly hair doesn't even correlate lol
how does it not correlate? some black people dont have naturally straight hair, but we straighten it. some white people dont have naturally curly hair, so they curl it. the point is, its her hair if she wants to use bantu knots to curl it then so be it
gina mills I mean black peoples hair isn't curly it's kinky which is completely different for one and like I said white people dont have a culture so that's how it doesn't correlate ??? Idk it seems like common sense I don't known how to explain it if you don't understand by now
Lol. I just read a comment that said: "your ancestors oppressed people of color so you have no right to tell me how to feel" COME ON PEOPLE! Are we really going to punish people over stuff they had no control over? You can't control being born black or white, you can't control who your ancestors were! Shall I build a time machine and prevent slavery? Like what the fuck do you want? When it comes down to it, it's just hair. Let it be. I have naturally curly hair, I don't get offended when people use curling irons. And as far as culture goes, culture changes and borrows from other cultures all the time. I'm Puerto Rican, that's a hell of a mix of cultures, I don't go around and crucify people for salsa dancing, or listening to reggeton or wanting to speak Spanish. Give this petty first world excuse a break. Wanna do something to help people? Go to the places where your culture originates and help them out, donate money, help stop the wars and poverty going on there, make a real difference for someone who doesn't have the luxury of worrying about something trivial like hair.
because ಠ_ಠ we live amongst crumb snatchers. ➲ ➲The same people who will tell our black grand kids it's Roman/Greek and Africans are too dumb to create Euro-knots. #DontActBrandNew .... we have been down this road before
Sabrina I I usually spritz some water then (try) and run my fingers through the curls. The curls become slightly looser but it helps with the shrinkage, I also go for the hair on the bottom layer.
I don't even see comments upset with her doing bantu knots. All I see are comments whinning about how hair doesn't have a race, and how people are complaining over nothing. Like chill.
could someone please explain to me why its offensive to use the hairstyle as a way to get heatless curls? considering youd only wear them to bed overnight anyway? .-.
caroline izod There is nothing offensive about it. The ppl that are angry are either racist, in a bad mood, or they don't understand what cultural appropriation. 1. She called them Bantu knots, not silly buns or mini buns like some ppl do which is offensive. 2. She never claimed to have invented this hair style. 3. She simply wore them to bed...She didn't even wear them out!!! 😹😹😹 Even if she did wear them out, it's still not cultural appropriation. If she took the time to call them Bantu knots, I'm certain she loves/appreciates Black culture.
It's not really about the name. It's more about her still wearing them. She doesn't need them in her head and for us black girls, this isn't just a hairstyle. That's where the problem lies as everyone keeps trying to dismiss the importance of it all, summing it up to be little to nothing. Plus, with the way society treats black people and black culture, it's getting a little tiring seeing stuff like this.
If I was claiming to have created this style myself, or named it anything other than what it's normally called then you could be offended. This a way to get heartless curls which is what happened. I gave props by making sure I got the name right. Stop trying to find things to be offended by.
Baldi Lockz The problem is that it appropriates a culture. You could wear this to work and won't get fired. You can go to school like this without being expelled. You can wear this without being racially profiled. WE can not.
Naomi, where are these people that got fired for having small buns in their hair? If there are actual statistics, then I see your points, but I doubt there is.
Cat Enator They are not mini buns first of all. It's more than statistics. It is REAL LIFE FOR US. I have friends, family, and neighbors who have been fired. This is my experience which you choose to remain blind to, so I am sure you do doubt it. I don't have to provide you with statistics. It is a real thing and it is offensive. Period. Have a nice day.
You can't just say this is a real problem with no real proof whatsoever, your friends and family are not enough to backup your claim. This is the real world where one's word is most definitely not enough because it can easily be a lie! You don't have to provide anything of course, not like you can anyway... Also, saying I choose to be blind towards something means "I know it happens, but I choose to ignore it", except I've never witnessed someone getting fired for having silly buns in their hair. Especially nowadays where anything "bad" related to black people and their culture can become viral online quite easily.
Cat Enator It can easily become viral but that doesn't mean it will. There are thousands of scenarios that's did not go viral and if that is the only way you believe something is real, then there is a problem. However if you are truly interesting you can look it up but I doubt you will.I can say my friends and family have experienced it because they have and that is enough. I also have. I am not asking you to believe me. I was simply explaining why this is not okay.
I got called a Karen .. because I compared Bantu Knots to pin curls... what's next I'm gonna be called becky with the good hair for doing heartless curls? My hair dont care
lovedrakexx Right!? I could complain about black women wearing "my people's hair." I'm Brazillian and I constantly see black women installing Brazilians hair in their hair yet a white person can't even use a hair style that literally anyone can come up with!? I figured out about bantu knots on my own without watching any videos. It's not cultural appropriation.
there are many, many white chicks that have curly hair too... lol we are all people like doesnt matter what race or what skin color you have at the end of the day we are all people, and some dark girls with curly hair like to straighten their hair and some white girls with straight hair like to curl it...like does it matter.
Amy Dias Nogueira Brazilian is a Nationality not a race... that's just like saying people put American hair in their head... It seems like people are ignorant to cause and effect. we wouldnt be putting "Brazilian " hair in our heads to begin with if we werent pushed to make our hair relaxed or straight. im not sure where you live, my school catholic school would send you home if you had "unruly hair" ie: afro, dreads, patterend braids. So personally i was always natural and had to wear my hair only on a ponytail. When i got older my "ponytail" was unprofessional, so to keep my hair protected i got weaves. my hair when straightened is almost waist length, but i would rather pay for straight hair, then break mine out straightening it.
Bantu knots are an amazing way to curl your hair. I'm black and I've personally never tried it, but hopefully when I do, it come out as beautifully as this. 😅❤
Great job on trying out bantu knots on your sister hair! Ignore the offensive comments. You saw a hairstyle you wanted to try and did so. No hate over here
you should also use a gel or some sort of thing to hold the curl more too! Looked good, just try to keep the curl in longer before you separate it and you'll get a much better result with much more curl in it for her hair type.(straight) (sorry I'm super, super late just saw this lol nice video.)
Ikr I'm really done with this like if you really want to end racism look at the real racism going on and speak against. Trying to stop a young girl and her sister from doing their hair just because they want to do their hair isn't going to stop anything.
The Simple Kindness I’m white with very curly hair as well, and I completely understand. I love the amount of cultural appreciation shown within many different appearances and backgrounds, and this hairstyle within this form of video is purely a girl doing her hair AND giving the correct credit where it is due. x
Not trying to be racist or anything but the comments are saying that white people need to stop stealing their hairstyles and I can see where some people get mad but as a white girl with straight hair I don't like to use heat on my hair because it makes it POOFAY and i respect the hairstyle and where it came from but in all honesty white people like the curls that black people have and they want to try to achieve it because they think it's pretty and that's why I like this style..... If someone wants to do something to their hair I say let them do it because if they do it it means they respect and appreciate the style
YaGirl Ashlee it’s not about black people even if this hairstyle was originally from somewhere else and someone likes it they can use it this isn’t about someone wanting something originated from black people it’s about wanting to do a hairstyle because it’s nice and she likes it yes it originated from black people but that’s not why she likes it...
YaGirl Ashlee black people have also been relaxing their hair forever now so STOP SAYING THAT ONLY WHITE PEOPLE WANT WHAT BLACK PEOPLE HAVE. Why do some black women bleach their skin? Why do white women tan? Why do black women straighten their hair? Why do white girls curl it? I’m done with this shit.
Alexandra Rivera Us straightening our hair isn’t your culture Bantu knots on the other hand BELONGS TO US BLACK PEOPLE so clearly there is a difference here so don’t try it
I may not be part of the Bantu tribe or a black person, but I am Asian. I personally don't find it offensive when someone eats noodles which originated in Asian culture. Yes, I can see how the Bantu knots are a part of Bantu culture, and someone that originated from this particular culture might find this offensive, but anyone who finds this offensive, you need to understand that this isnt cultural appropriation. She correctly labeled this particular method after the culture that invented this. You need to accept the fact that all cultures are never completely unique, they all have borrowed from each other at one point and that America is a place where immigrants from all over the world, welcome or not, come and spread their culture.
Where are these hate comments everyone keeps talking about, all I see is comments about the hate comments and comments from people who love the video. I'm so confused lol.
I got news for ya'll, almost everyone from every culture has used these methods for curling their hair. This is not cultural. This is not limited to one race. Literally any historian can tell you that.
That is what I was saying my family has been doing this for at least 5 generations it is a common worldwide method for curling little girls hair so you don't damage it. No one can claim this.
@@sirctebros901 but it is cultural😐this style was not made with the intention to curl the hair, it just happens when it is done. It was created to protect the natural hair. This hairstyle was created by Zulu people.
Why does everyone keep saying this is culture appropriation? Its just a hairstyle just like half up half downs and braids. Chill every one and have a nice day
bcs it's a cultural hairstyle and blacks are ridiculed a lot for wearing their cultural things but whites are praised for trying it out. blacks were stripped of their culture by white supremacists not that long ago so when it's lowkey being brought back, I think blacks have the right to get mad. crack open a history book before making stupid comments like this
Ok try to see it this way. Can a white person say "nigga" and it not be offensive. Even if they mean it as "friend" or whatever, it's still offensive is it not? So why should people appropriate culture? even if they're no doing it to spite anyone. It's still wrong. It's robbing a group of people of their culture. Can you kindly rob a bank? I don't think so. Try to understand the other P.O.V. Thank you and have a nice day
Vivian Njuguna I am but it's simply asinine to me. Do you celebrate Christmas? Have you ever worn pants? Shoes? Eaten spaghetti? Used an oven? How about putting on makeup? And the culture you think "African" Americans have the rights to, we don't actually own. Remember, Africa is a continent consisting of many countries who all individually have a vast array of tribes who have/still do inhabit the countries. Every tribe has a different culture. That being said, it is ignorant to claim something as being your own culture, when you likely have no idea where you actually came from in Africa, and what tribe you descend from, if you even are from Africa. Remember, there are dark skinned people that are native to the Caribbean and the West Indies. If you are not one hundred percent certain that you descend from the Bantu people, yet you wear Bantu knots, aren't you guilty of appropriating the Bantu culture as well? Don't you think an actual Bantu descendant has more of a right to become angry over the "appropriation" of their culture? Isn't America a melting pot of culture? Shouldn't we just share and be happy? Will y'all be screaming cultural appropriation when the aliens come or will y'all then drop the petty shit and unite as humans? Or is it really that serious? I didn't realize the internet was paying people to pa(troll)
Truth is, my friends and I used to play around in hair a lot during sleepovers and we just started doing these in our own! We lived in a small town in Texas and never even knew they were a "thing" to anyone, either. We DID notice that our curls looked amazing the next morning, tho. So, sorry to anyone that wants to say white people are stealing from them when they do this, but I started doing this before I ever knew it even was a cultural statement. When I first saw someone wearing that look out, I honestly just thought they looked cool and unique. And I have seen these on all kinds of folks since. Folks mixed with all kinds of different races. So what? I honestly don't see why we can't all just share with each other in the fashion world. If it looks good, why not? No one means any harm by it, and people just don't need to "go there." There are way more important things to be upset about these days.
I don't understand the 'black girl hair' 'white girl hair' comments :/ white people are born with curly hair, straight hair, wavy hair. . it's not a certain style made just for black people.. I have naturally straight hair, I'd love to have curly hair! take it as a compliment rather than a negative. It's called a 'hair style', there's MANY of them!
bantu knots are a black african creation. Not too long ago, black women were shitted on for wearing styles like this. It's ugly and ghetto for black girls, but when a white girl does it, it's trendy and adorable. Just stop it
It is a very ugly thing seeing people outside of your culture, sporting it as if it is an accessory. The stories behind these hairstyles are very significant in black culture and to see anyone outside of our heritage use that as a style is not okay and trying to justify it is racism and you cannot tell me otherwise.
black women/men being mistreated for cherishing what is natural to us is an ugly thing. Don't justify this fore which you have walked in the shoes of my people.
Miyaaa. I'm faaaaaaar from a racist. . I'm not trying to justify anything, I'm only seeing it as any other hair style.. MY opinion, and I respect yours.
I know I’m 2 years late but why is it always the black girls that are so pressed? Do ya’ll purposely type in on RU-vid ‘white girl curling her hair’ just to get yourself mad? Ya’ll don’t own curly hair so keep your comments to yourself and leave the girl be. You look stunning sis and your curls are bomb 🔥
Since you are not black you have no say in the issue, please do not bring it upon yourself to say what we should and shouldn't find offensive. Curly hair is an important part of culture bc it is some of the only things we have left that y'all haven't took and tried to make it as your own (yet). It's always black girls because y'all stay hating on everything we do, you call it ghetto, rachet, ect. until a white person does it, then it's cute and trendy. Black women are the true trend setters, but we couldn't even get credited for that, so that's why we ask you not wear our hairstyles. But of course you're ignorant, so you have no concern about what black people think about any of the things you stole from us, your only concern is trying to figure out a way to shut us up so y'all can take the credit.
@@ty-re6pz yo sis chill! Y'all aren't slaves anymore, do whatever the fuck you want with your hair, and don't give a fucking shit to what others think and say, cause that would mean, you still consider yourself to be inferior to them. And if you consider yourself a slave, plenty of people (of all races, surprise) even today , would love to have a slave, so you know, you can take your bs and hateful self over there. LMAO
straight hair isn’t part of a cultural and nobody said white people cant get curly hair and when we straight out hair for the workplace and stuff like that that’s assimilation because it the regular beauty standard
Jane Park I bet you are a white girl lol. You would not be saying this if you were a black women that has to deal with being called gehtto for doing this , but if a white girl does it it’s a “trend”. You’re stealing someone’s culture. It’s not right.
People are really mad because of a way of curling your hair heatless just because it’s from African culture? Istg I bet no African is offended, only people from America. Cultural appropriation is from America. People are saying it’s unfair she gets to wear them and people get fired from work. First of all is that her fault? Second of all she’s not at work. She doesn’t wear them at work. So what does black people at work have to do with a white girl doing curls. She opens them afterwards. Make it make sense. No offense to black people, offense to Americans. African American people are American after all.
I have no problem with straight haired people trying out Bantu knots on their hair as long as they're calling them what they're (Bantu knots) and not saying they came up with the style themselves like it didn't originate from somewhere else.
Her hair looks great and I think it's good for people of different races and hair textures to use hairstyles from different cultures. I think it's great to see people branch out and try things she used the correct term for the knots and didn't act like she invented them or came up with the idea so why are people so tacky about it!
The amount of hate I'm seeing on this video is completely disgusting. It's just a hairstyle!! People need to learn how to get a life. 😕😒 and I think it came out really well 👏😄
yall shouldnt get offended, she didnt use this as a hairstyle she was just trying to get some heatless curls. yall know the struggle, its not that deep
I completely understand how wearing these out would be rude and considered cultural appropriation, but I don’t think she had any malicious intent and or wanted to disrespect a different culture. I think she just wanted to try a different way to get fun curls, all I’m saying is I hope we can all show the amazing parts of cultures and be able to credit and magnify the places where these things and ideas came from:)
Lol!! I used to do this all the time to my hair to curl it overnight back when I was in my early teens. I didn't know until now that what I was doing is actually called Bantu knots...good to know though!! And no, it isn't freakin cultural appropriation!! I was a 13 yo kid just wanted to curl my hair, it's not that deep fr..
I am an inside out Oreo, in middle school I did my own cornrows and box braids with beads, and I LOVE all of it. I'm not racist I just love what fun things I can do to my hair, curling, braiding, weaving, all of it, we shouldn't have to be basic, we should be able to get over ourselves and share and do what we want, soldiers died for our country to be a free one and I'm not about to let someone tell what I can and can't do with my hair... and nor will I do that to anyone else.. do whatever you want with your hair ladies I don't care what color you are, what hair texture you have, or what culture you came from you have dead cells growing from your head, make the most of them😂😂 And appreciate those around you who actually put effort into their hair..
Um, I really don't want to offend anyone, but isn't the point of this video the curls? People are getting upset over this hairstyle but it's not the hairstyle that is the finished product, it's the curls. Idk if I'm stupid, but isn't the point of using this method to get heatless curls to sleep with them, or wait a couple hours/minutes and then take them out???
I wanna do this cause my hair curlers arent in yet and im afraid this will take forever my natural curls get weighed down and putting my hair up helps it stay nice and pristine but ive got so much hair and its thicc, is this gonna take me all night?
Her curls looked really bad because you didn't do the bantu knots right I would suggest watch so tutorial first also the fact that her hair is straight and you didn't put any product on it makes them look really poof and the ends would unravel making the waves look worst
OMG you look absolutely beautiful😍 so I did this last nights and took them out this morning and omg I had beautiful curls and very poofy they were like a pillow they only took me 1 hr to put them in but I did do it myself and I suck at any type of hair things this is the best tutorial in my entire life your the best thank you!
For the people who say this is stealing a hairstyle no it is not, I think it's nice that she finds curly you hair beautiful, there are curly haired people who perm or straighten their hair and straight haired people don't complain
As a black girl I think that this isn’t cultural appropriation she not claiming it to be her hairstyle she used the correct name and credited the culture. White girls and others should feel free to do this technique to get curly hair as long as they understand and care about the idea and culture of the hairstyle
Why do people get offended by white girls doing bantu know yet black girls wear white girls hair on their heads?????yal don't see white girls complaining about it 🙄🙄🙄stop with this white girls shouldn't do black girl styles and vice versa because at the end of the day we all women tryna look beautiful doesn't matter what style we doing,we should be making eachother as women feel pretty nor which hairstyle belong to which race.....
Why is everyone like sooo butt hurt over what she called this hair curling method😂 no ones owns it wipe your tears, she can call it what she likes it her video 💋
Xo Xo its part of a culture is what people are talking about. Me, myself dont know anything about bantu knots but itd be wrong to call them something other than bantu knots and turn it into something different
