I love it! "Nothing worse then a trip to the truck". I make extra trips everyday back to the truck and have the same response! Thanks for sharing Ted. PS it could have been worse. A trip back to the shop... We have all been there.
Ted you are a really good guy people like you are what built and made America great. You care about your work and you care about the people you work for there's nothing better than that
Theres a problem with those valves with that 3 pin connector. Changed one today releasing gas after a call for heat a few times. I see them in York and Rheeem furnaces. Here in Ontario, Canada.
If I had a dime for every trip I had to make to the Van for something I forgot, didn’t have with me, or like you a daggone wire nut or something like that lol, ide be rich. I really love the two story houses with the unit up in the attic, having to go up and down several flights of stairs then up or down a hill where I had to park the Van. Talk about exhausting.
Good job,I like the way you take care of your customers, maybe add a drip leg to the gas pipe to keep debris from going into the gas valve will be a good idea! Thanks for the video you are a good man god bless you.
In Michigan a gas utility employee should have confirmed a bypassing gas control valve on the furnace if that was the case.A written form would be given to the customer to show to a contractor stating where the gas was leaking. The fuel line to the furnace would then be disconnected and capped for safety.I used to carry two different kinds of gas detectors which made confirming a bypassing gas valve easy.
You may have missed you calling as a cat burglar Theodore 😂😂. I think you were likely right about the manometer test port on the feed side being the leak source. Good call on change out. I’ve changed a couple of those two stage valves on ICP units in the last couple of years. Failed to open with no just cause. Good thing they are inexpensive , makes it easy to keep a couple in stock on the truck.👍👍🇨🇦
I use a little bucket to grab most of the tools I need for the particular repair and I kip a mix of wire caps screws I hate every time I have to go back to the van I get a lot of emergency calls at night during the winter time I always make it fun anyways
great job. as a retired gas man i am a bit surprised you didn`t bubble test the gas jets just to absolutely verify for yourself that the gas valve was in fact bypassing.
Dr. Cook making late night house calls ! That gas valve leak seems to be very rare I'd think due to the high risk it has in controlling raw open gas flows from the source.
Drip legs are a thing of the past. Gas isn't dirty. Only time I install a drip leg is where specified by utilities company on their service before meters and on a boiler with a Dungs gas valve. The drip leg serves as a volume chamber for their suction.
That my friend is good engineering, being able to turn that part. Nice to see you using your impact. Milwaukee makes a reversible bit that's both 1/4 and 5/16, it'll save you a walk.
hey ted love your vids as a trane tech my self they havve been super helpful just a tip for ya im sure your already aware but on those units with the isd or interstage delays you can change the dip switches for the timer on that unit you can set it to 0 seconds on s7 dip switch block and it will fire up in first stage burn till the blower comes on then jump right away to the second stage so you dont have to sit and wait the ten mins its a good tip for your maintence guys so they can save some time when working on equipment and they can change it back to the ten mins when they are done you could have done that on this call too just to make sure the second stage will fire but i get it was late and you were already doing them a favor as someone who works for a 24hr company trust me ik how crap those 1am calls are T.T
Does the unit need to be powered down then back on to register the setting changes? Just wondering because my 19yr old xl split system requires that if a blower speed dip switch setting is changed. Ted did mention this unit is about 5yrs old & things have changed.
@@waltersmith7950 no not fully powered down but it does need to be in an idle state for the changes to register so what I normally do is just undo w1 let it swap back to idle and then make my dip switch or on board changes depending on the model and then just plug w1 back in this way your not wasting time going back and forth to the thermostat. Hope it helps
@@jeffreyjohn2037 you'd be surprised alot of the newer units have new tech you just have to learn from scratch so his experience is irrelevant when the tech is brand new and I was just trying to be helpful. No need to be a dick
I had 3 gas valves I changed out last heating season that were leaking through the valve. Just grab the ole bick and check at the orfices. Mind you it would close completely sometimes, so you have to run a few cycles to find it sometimes. These were on Carrier MN7's that were 2-3yrs old
These valves are supposed to be redundant, with two seats inside, just for this reason. I would have verified that gas was leaking by testing at the orifices. I can’t understand why the gas company, who said the valve was leaking, left the gas on. Should have been capped off and tagged. Would be interesting to open that one up to see where they are failing. Sometimes the meter regulator creeps above the maximum pressure and damages the valve.
We are still turning ac on in north part of Louisiana ( monroe) as of today October 25th 2022, it suppose to get cooler this weekend in morning,45° ( we don't like cold weather)
I like to prove that parts are bad. That leak could have been from anywhere. I wouldn’t rely on a gas company man’s opinion, that didn’t cap the gas line off, and tag it.
Can someone help this cold weather person with a couple of questions? Is it common in the south to install gas furnaces outside? I never saw that. And in my part of the world, we don't need heat when the crickets are still chirping. Was it really that cold?
if you were told that the gas valve was leakying by. why not test the manifold pressure and ensure the gas valve was the issue.... no hate just a note to everyone else watching this video...
Ted, there are LED flashlight bulbs available for your incandescent light, or on eBay, punch this in for multi purpose light to fit a Milwaukee battery. I'll not include the link. Cordless LED Work Light for Milwaukee 18v M18 Li-ion Battery 2000LM Spotlight.
I think all the gas valves I’ve seen are Honeywell brand and look the same. I’m sure you could keep a spare for those late night calls. My parts actually has a cell phone number for a parts guy they’ll come up at nighttime for parts for an extra $80.
