I used to run very badly. Nothing but threshold runs or other fast efforts, It led to burnout. This channel has helped a lot! I'm 46 and currently running 60 miles a week. Probably 85% of that is base. I do a weekly interval session (or threshold pace), a threshold 5k on Saturday and long slow run on Sunday. I've started adding in weights, some strides on most runs and a few (8 second) hill sprints during my base runs. I guess I'm in this for the long haul. I'm hoping for a lot of progress if I'm patient. My current 5k PR is 20:13, but if I keep this up, I would love to go under 20, or indeed under 19.

All due respect to him as he’s a fantastic runner, yes he let his head get the better of him. Still a massively fast guy but IMO he lead his approach with a mindset that robbed him of being able to not just medal but possibly win.

How are you going to use Jakob as the “bad example” on the thumbnail when he is literally the greatest in the world at his event
@runelitecoach
@runelitecoach Месяц назад
It doesn’t say “bad” it says “impatient”. Did you watch the end of the video? It’s also debatable if he’s the best. Kerr looks pretty good right now. We’ll see at the Olympics. But point is that the mindset between Jacob and Kipchoge is vastly different.

Tbh a little weird using a 23yr old not having any real World Records as a comparison point days after he got significantly closer to one. Kipchoge didn't have many yet either...

Wow, I haven't heard so much BS in a while. Sorry. First of all, a few inaccuracies- Kipchoge did not race as an elite athlete in the 90s, he was 16 in 2000. He won gold at the 5000 in the 2003 WC. He is no longer a WR holder. It is true that he broke the WR twice. Jakob actually holds 3 WR (2 of them outdoors). Both Jakob and Kipchoge have 3 gold medals in the Olympics+WC combined. Jakob is 23 and Kipchoge is almost 40. I won't get into the "happiness" mumbo jumbo - you're saying one could run a 7:30 5 miler happily or do it as a chore and trying to imply Jakob isn't doing his workouts happily and that he won't have longevity in his career like Kipchoge has (then you realize you might be full of it and back down and say "we'll see"). The truth of the matter is that Jakob has had one of the most consistent middle/long distance running careers, and the guy is only 23. He's a triple double (1500/5000) European champion spanning 6 years (2018-2024)- that's already great consistency and longevity. Might have been quadruple if not for covid cancelling the 2020 champs. His training lends itself to longevity because he actually doesn't go all out at all in his workouts, despite what you're trying to imply. It's so funny you bring him as an example of someone who "forces it in workouts", "probably won't be here in 10 years", "train really hard and need to recover", "their training isn't going to lead to breakthrough performances". He's literally the opposite of all those! Neither of us know how much joy Kipchoge or Ingebrigtsen find in their daily mundane training. They probably have good days and bad days, like the rest of us. Trying to sell this illusion that we should all train with the joy that Kipchoge "has" (smiling in pain at the end of a race) isn't really going to help anyone improve.

@YG-ei7wu
@YG-ei7wu Месяц назад
Question, is their a difference in benefit to doing strides at the end of your run and during your run?
@runelitecoach
@runelitecoach Месяц назад
Yes. You can out strides at the end of an otherwise easy long run and it’s helpful to shift from glycogen metabolism to fat earlier in your race. For a standard daily run, it’s not important to do that. Just get them in (after a warm up of course)
