Which reason for low or no sales do you think applies to your current low-content publishing process, and how do you plan on addressing it in order to get those sales rolling in?
I have over 500 listed and only sold 12. I'm thinking I messed up with the keywords in the beginning. I was only using single keywords. My plan is to go back and fix a few of them each week all while continuing to publish new books.
@@MsHill79 As a newbie, that's what I've been doing. Reassessing my use of key words. There is sure a whole lot more to learn in this business than I ever thought. Fortunately, I'm having fun!! Good luck!
I'm doing ok, but could be doing waaay better. Some of the steps you've mentioned I am doing but I need to apply myself more. I just started a emailing list last month, though. I have nearly one hundred subscribers. Although I mentioned how I am doing some of the things you talked about, this video gave me order.
I've written and published 9 books this year alone, with a 10th and 11th in the works. All together I have a total of 17 books on Amazon so far with an 18th and 19th in the works. One of my titles is a 9-book series called " P.U.S.H N PLAY FOR LIFE." I write and publish just for the fun of it. Besides, I learned that if you want to hide something from a fool to put it in a book. Lol😂It's not really about the money. Although, I've sold very few, and that's a start. I'm just blessed and grateful to God for allowing me the opportunity at an amazing accomplishment. Nothing beats a failure but a try😇
@@abdulrahman-he2dk I'm actually a ma'am. That's my profile picture of Jesus Christ. Look below that, you will see Add New Title. Try it and let me know if you need help😇
9 books? Are you kidding me? I'll tell you what. Why don't you write just one book. One. Not two, not three. Focus just on one single book. Make sure that it's good, that it's memorable and that it's worth buying. I don't think those 9 books are good at all.
@@StudioSerious1 How would you know if they're good if you never even read them? That's like saying you don't like a certain type of food, if you never even tried it. I'm up to 21 ebooks. They're all script novels. How many books have you written and published? Well, looking at the way that you write, probably 0. You need to quit hating. I don't care what you think. You don't get paid to think. Jealously is a disease, so get well soon and get a life, hater💯😇
@@latricewillins-butler5403 21 ebooks. Trash, man, trash. I don't need to read you to know that what you write is garbage. These are just numbers. Quantity. Not quality. Waste of paper. You don't get it because you are an amateur, a scribbler. If you would be a serious writer you would understand that there isn't such a strong, powerful emotion as hate. Do you think the young Eminem's lyrics would be great if he wasn't full of hate? I'll tell you. The answer is no. Hate is what makes you come up with a nice sentence, a good paragraph, a good solid page. Put some hate in the words you write down. Hey, was searching and learning about amazon Kdp and came across your channel. It is quite informative and helpful. I have a query. Kindly do make a video for people who are unable to get the formatting right in the kdp previewer.. I make e books on canva and it downloads in pdf form and now kdp doesnot support pdf files so the formatting is always out... kindle create is also not helping to sort the low content books formatting..I don't know where I am going wrong. Kindly do make a video on this issue,if more people are facing it.
Thank you, as always great. One question? How to get customers’ email? I remember you once said to write the email inside the products. So the question is, how do we encourage the customer to use that email, and how do we get his email in this way?
Hi Sam, the best way to get a customer on your email list is to provide a URL to a freebie inside your book. The customer can go to that URL, download your freebie, then they're on your list.
@@RachelHarrisonSund I’m glad you answered my question. But I’m confused. Freebie for what product? What is he going to get from us later for free? For example, a journal planner in Amazon? But this is impossible. How can we give a journal planner to the customer for free in Amazon while it has a minimum printing fee?
@@hellomartywoods What might be attractive for a person who bought a planning jurnal?free Digital Wallpapers ? a free video file? A free course? Ms. Rachel has a free book sales course on Amazon. But is this course attractive to his clients?
@@samrak9459 May be not as simple as it sounds. Rachel gives a free guide, she put a link in one of her videos, I clicked on it to get the free guide as a download and she sent it to me to my e mail. That's how she got my e mail (her guide is great by the way). Now the question is, what could you offer ad a freebie? Not necessarily easy to know what.

Yes and no. Everyone is into fast results. Therefore, they more or less, copy each other. Cookie cutter output. All it takes is creativity, creativity keeps you above the herd. Creativity is abundant and can only fade as your imagination fades.
This isn't advice anyone will want to hear, but unless you're willing to put in serious work to stand out, low-content books are NOT for you. The market is extremely saturated now that it's a popular niche. It's barely even niche at this point. To those who missed the train, don't worry. There's always new trends to jump on, but you need to be ready and listening or you'll miss it.
Thanks for this video. I think low content publishing is just as demanding as writing a fiction book, if you are making books from scratch and trying to put out quality low content books. I am planning to quit low content in December, it's been nearly one year and I've made a few odd sales. I cannot even cover 1 month's rent with the money I have made. I make journals from scratch and I have sold 1 copy in the USA and all my other sales are in the UK and other parts of Europe. I was so excited about publishing my first book a year ago. Now I am exhausted and frustrated.
Hi Mica. LC publishing is definitely more work than most people anticipate, and success can depend on the skillsets a person already has in place when starting, as well as how much time and effort a person is willing to spend to fill in the gaps in their skillsets. If you've made some sales then there's no reason you can't learn how to amplify those sales. But you definitely need to feel in your gut that continuing to pursue LC publishing is the right thing for you to do. Whatever your decision is I wish you all the best in your endeavours.
Mica L, Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. There are no guarantees, there are plenty of dead-ends and rabbit holes, and your patience and belief in yourself will be tested. I'm a newbie and still in the learning curve, but my last small business took SEVEN years to build up to a sustaining income. What I have been able to glean from researching KDP is that it is an evolving, "organic" process. In other words, your external success will be the result of internal factors such as persistence, discipline, mindset, and the ability to adapt and make changes when things are not working. If KDP is not for you, and as Paddy at Stackin' Profits says, You cannot see yourself doing KDP long-term, then cut your losses but celebrate the "détour" and all the new things you learned. Good luck to you.
I feel your struggle. It’s one thing when you see consistent progress but when a year passes with little to no sales you feel the need to try something else perhaps less time consuming that might have a bigger market.
I love watching your videos. Very helpful. I think I was lulled into a false sense of success when I began. I sold over 40 LC books my first month (Feb 2020). Then covid hit and my sales plummeted to around 5 books sold the next month. (Many were travel themed!) I kept uploading in new niches and then began publishing in a niche that is the same as my main business that I run. My books are selling, but only about 2-10 per day. And, yes, it is the 80/20 rule. I sell the same 10-15 books that generate most of my sales. I am unsure how to ramp up more sales. I have done all the things you indicated in your video. Perhaps I need to change keywords? Anyway, thanks for the tips. Great video as always!
Thanks for your comment! The two main areas that most people need help with are keyword research and design. You could definitely try switching up your keywords and categories to see if that helps. I'd also get another set of eyes on your designs for some feedback in that area. I would say that this is where people really tend to struggle the most if they have no background in art or design. Keep me posted!
@@RachelHarrisonSund agreed. I am a graphic designer with over 20 years experience. I actually even have a current client for whom I am designing book covers for their fiction series. So I think it’s my keywords. I will keep tweaking. Fingers crossed.
Thank you so much! Ironically I am literally in the middle of making my book, and your page played after watching another page...well Listening to another page and yours popped up. It came right on time "divine intervention" it gave me so much insight and encouragement and something I wouldn't have known or thought of if I didn't come across your page. You just gained another follower. Blessings, and thank you for sharing grace for the rookies like myself lol💕🙏🏽
So is anyone here actually making money off KDP books? I'm not talking about a few sales here or there...I'm talking at least $1000 a month above ad spend?
Thanks. I've got, quite a,few books published on KDP. I've sold mostly locally here at home through author books. Very few via KDP. They are Christian Spiritual books covering various topics. They are selling in Christian books shops here at home and individually. My promotion is via FB and Utube. God bless.
AI is taking over the publishing business as it has the blogging sphere...sadly, I don't see KDP being profitable in 3-5 years as AI becomes easier and people really start cranking out better and better quality publications in mass.
The only sales I’ve gotten since I started in May 2022 are people we told about or from author copies. I now have 6 journals with Bible verses, one in Spanish.
The LC space is severely oversaturated with copy cats and plagiarizers, or people slapping something together quickly and thinking it will sell. But buyers aren't stupid. They can see the mimics and the low-quality efforts and they're not going to spend their money on it. I have one LC book that I made, but I researched a particular niche, talked to people in that niche (my ideal buyers) to get their feedback, added my own creative spin on it, designed it in a high quality, and after a few months of marketing it, I'm now making $1,000 per month from that single LC book. But I put real time, thought, money and effort into it. I ordered test copies, and when the page details were misaligned, I fixed it and reordered it again to test it. There are so many people doing this now, so if you enter this space, you have to come creatively and with a good, original product. My unique idea has done well, so of course, now I see the vultures trying to mimic and copy my exact ideas and designs. It's gross, but they won't succeed that way. Their books won't sell trying to mimic someone else's concept.
I couldn't have said it better myself, Kay! I'm so happy to hear that your hard work payed off! You're right-those flooding the market with junk won't stand a chance long term; research, real effort and a quality book are the only way to go.
@@amberana Nope. Amazon doesn't protect or respect you owning any creative rights unless you have formal copyright (typically for a novel or manuscript, not a journal like this) or trademark (which, I looked into it, and it is very expensive to apply for and tricky--you need a lawyer to navigate it). In the end, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. Amazon Marketplace is a kind of free for all. Amazon themselves will mimic the products of small business sellers and undercut them with pricing. So it's not a surprise that they allow this to happen to everybody else. My low content book still sells well, but I'm getting to a point where I think looking into other alternatives (meaning, not strictly selling on Amazon) is the end goal for my product.
Hi, thanks for stopping by! First, create a downloadable freebie that's relevant to your niche. Then add a URL that leads to your freebie inside your book. When the person visits the URL they will exchange their address for the free download and your email list will have a new subscriber. Hope that helps!
It's the same reason why a lot of really great books, art, and other goods aren't selling; because the market is full of wanna be artists (who are awful) and wanna be "writers" who are awful. The market is SATURATED. Weeding out all of that flim flam takes the patience of job and most people don't want to wade through a pile of novices just to get to the good stuff.
Rachel, Thank you for your clear, organized, detailed, fluff free rich video. Aren't you selling the beast before cashing in? I know you sell courses, it's kind of hard to see what else you would have to offer after watching your very informative videos. Also, thank you for answering many questions in the comments and at times in depth. Quite a few post videos and never bother replying to questions. We learn from those replies because often, we have the same questions. Also, thanks for your great Free Guide.
Thanks Marybeth! You can easily set up your list for free in Mailchimp. The best way to bet customers onto your list is by creating a freebie that you can include a link to inside your books. When a customer downloads your freebie they also join your email list. Then you've got paying customers you can promote other books to in the future. Is this something you will try for yourself?
You are one of my favorite YT on this field...(p.s but, have you seen they terminated Jame summer accounts? Why?) Thanks Rachel!!! for your great contents
Jade Summer has copyright issues, the team has been 'stealing/ripping off' from other artists. Reports were made but Amazon did nothing. I believe they offended some of the big names or they cost Amazon money by what they did and Amazon did something finally. Amazon rarely bans people without a good valid reason.
Jade's case is similar to James Alexander case. If you do shady things with Amazon and get caught, it's good bye to your account. Although I am sure they'll find a way to come back into Amazon.
I’m going to make low content books each with 10-20 different covers. I’ll list them when I have 100 in total. Each will be £3-£5. This way I can easily earn £100/month.
Nice video there ! As always .really motivating , while still realistic . Tell me about one thing please, Is it as easy as it has been , to get a kdp account ??
I have published almost 300 low content books And I got only one sale. It is very disappointing and discouraging. But I'll still try to upload some more books and then I'll wait for sales
@@marieshaw1261 Doubt she just copy and pasting whatever other RU-vid viewer is doing. The market is more saturated than the rainforest. This isnt some golden goose for house wives.
Glad it was helpful! The best way to get a customer on your email list is to provide a URL to a freebie (that you have created) inside your book. The customer can go to that URL, download your freebie, then they're on your list.
I just found your channel and your "Three Steps" instructions. They are excellent! I found information that I hadn't seen before. I just sent my first book to Amazon, a planner-organizer with extra lined pages, contact list, important dates, and weekly and monthly calendars, gathering information from various RU-vidrs and their videos. Not to mention hours of trial and error learning Canva. But I did it and I'm glad! 😂 Again, thank you for the instructions. I wish I had found them several weeks ago when I started this journey. Best wishes from Colorado 😊
Hello and thank you so much for this video. Very informative for a beginner like myself. I was able to recognize why my books are not getting any sales. Could you clarify in the optimization area where you mention 'title information and keyword slots' - should low competition keywords used in the 7 keyword slot be long tail keywords or short tail. For example, for a number tracing book, can i use keywords like gift, birthday ideas for son, homeschool (provided these are low competition) in the 7 keyword slot? Thank you so much, Gizelle Mendes
Do we publish low content books as ebooks or paperback? For example, a journal seems better as a paperback, but perhaps people prefer to print a downloaded journal. Can you provide some guidance?
In the beginning it can be good to test out multiple niches until you find one that you have success in, then focus on just that one niche for awhile until you've gone as far as you can with it. Then move onto a second niche, and so on. Create as many high quality books in the niches that you have success with as you can.
Thank you! I have over 100 and they are cute! Recipe, dream journals, drawing and sketch pads and nothing!!! I have read that I need to have a website or place where I can keep all of them in one place. What do you think?
I have about 30 books up that are medium content, my cover and interior is good and l belive keywords are as good as can be from what l learned,..but no sales. It gets frustrating for sure when you cant see what is wrong. Maybe ads ?

There are many LC publishers who are earning significant income (covering all of their expenses and saving any additional income) but it takes time to build up and everyone comes with a different skillset. I would say if you have 400 books live and are earning $15 a month you'll need to go through each part of the process I outlined in my video to see if you can make any improvements. This will take time, and even once you get it right it will take more time still to start generating more and more sales. I would definitely hold onto your job and see if you can improve your LC publishing results on the side until you've determined if you can start generating more sales. It took me several years to earn what I consider to be a full time income-I don't say this to be a downer, I just want to be honest and realistic with you. I think it's best to come at this business model as a source of side income that you build slowly over time so that it's not relied on solely in the beginning. Otherwise there can be too much pressure to make it work quickly if you're in a tough financial spot. I wish the best with it and please keep me posted.
Thank you for this and all your videos which highlight the reality of the KDP self publishing journey. I have learned a great deal from your informative RU-vid channel.
Yes I have 5 Low Content Books that I had Started Creating from Book Bolt & Put it on KDP, However I have Done this to have Passive income & Watching a lot of People Videos on how to Create a Low Content Book & I have done all of that Correctly; Set up My Amazon Business to Be able to start selling My Low Content Books, However a lot of RU-vidrs are not saying in Very Specific Details you have to make Money on Sales some People are Putting out on RU-vid You Just need to set up a KDP Advertising Marketing & Just get Clicks & you can only make Money from just Clicks even if your Books are not selling at all, & I had like a Naïve fool had set it up and thought all I need is people to click in certain ads and all of my five books and come to find out when I spoke to someone from Amazon advertising marketing they said no you cannot just make money from clicks you are going to have to make money from sales and I am highly pissed off about that because some people are not advertising and expressing the truth behind in every step of detail what you need to do exactly and especially when you are new to this type of stuff and not very knowledgeable on technology of what you are doing and I am very mad that these people have RU-vid channels and not telling the truth step-by-step detail by detail. All Most RU-vidrs are worry about is making sure they have a successful RU-vid channel and getting a lot of subscribers but not going more into detail for people like me that don’t have a clue what the hell we are doing when a lot of this technology stuff is so different to us
