GLANK is a 3D animated musical video by Joe Herman with music by GLANK, a percussion performance art ensemble from New York City (visit their website at glankglankglank.com).
I created this video a few years ago but never uploaded it to this channel. All the animation was created with the Sound Effector, a powerful feature of Maxon C4D's Mograph tool set. Basically, the final mix of the music was separated out into separate tracks, each of which was fed into a separate sound effector to control the motion of different parts of a "music machine" made out of various components such as a big metal drum, an unusual carousel of metal sticks and so on.
The important thing to keep in mind was that, thanks to the Sound Effector, no keyframes were used for the animation. It was all handled by Mograph. The piece also makes use of C4D's hair system to create the tassels that hang off the edges of one of the metal drums. Cinema 4D's particle system was also used for the confetti-like particles inside the 3D letters.
