if you truly cares then you should end the coalition, everybody can afford food if housing doesn't take up 70% of their income. Everyone would be afford more food if there was no extra carbon tax. What does a school lunch program gonna do, use the money for something that actually matter
Schools are provincial jurisdiction! Trudeau has already doubled our federal debt and Jagmeet would have him (us) pick up the bill to provide lunches. Pretending like there is no limit to what the government can spend is not good leadership. Government debt is just money the government spent that the current taxes don't cover, it is still a burden to the future tax base. Going in debt to provide child care and dental isn't enough support? Farming is a very gas intensive process, carbon tax absolutely pushes food prices up. Grocery stores operate on profit margins, which are percentages above the cost of a product. When food costs increase then so too does the mark up. A loaf of bread that costs a store $2 and they want to make 20%, would have a price tag of $2.50. This yields the store 50 cents. If the cost of the loaf goes up to $2.40, then the new price tag is $3 and yields the store 60 cents. Simple math. In Jagmeet's world, he would like to see the stores lower their profit margin so they only make the same profit on a higher cost of goods, thereby lowering their return on investments. SO yes, the grocery stores are going to make more money as the cost of goods goes up, because they expect a certain % return on their investments.

I agree that school lunches are a good idea. BUT considering how "universal" pharma was implemented, and daycare and dental. This will also be a poinless endeavor. Pick one thing and do it right! Quit half assing things
