Thank you so much for sharing the tips. Your idea really works. I just hung 174 ft of C9 string lights without a ladder . I first modified the clips, then attached them to the eves (1" thick and didn't use a heat gut to make them tighter) and finally hung the strings (58 ft each) standing on the ground without a ladder. My roof above the garage has a steep angle like this /\, clips were spaced about 18" to 24" . I was worried at first, but they were not collapsing or falling down. Since it worked, I went back to HD and bought more clips. I think I used about 90 to 100 clips total. Don't watch the instruction video from the manufacturer. It won't work. Fortunately, I found this youtube video before I started. Your method is safe, efficient and less time consuming. Thank you !
Very cool, glad the process worked for you. I just ordered 50 more clips from Amazon and need to modify them for my house (heat gun method) and 25 for the garage, I got more lights this year! Appreciate you taking the time to comment and watch the video.
I used the same clips as supplied from the kit however I modified them with a propane torch to slightly melt them so I can change the shape, 2:04 minutes in the video I talk about how I modified the clip.
Does it really hold up with weather and gravity? I’ve used the universal clips on shingles and resting the lights on top, not clipped inside. They appear to hold up, but it’s very frustrating and time consuming to complete. And the wind has sometimes flipped the icicles over onto the roof. I miss my old house where I used permanent hooks attached to the eaves. Maybe one year I’ll rent a bucket truck to install the permanent hooks once and for all.
I have not had any issues with the clips failing with wind, rain, gravity but I use them like in the video every 2-3 feet spaced apart. After the Second year I did notice that I had a couple of the clips (2/150) snapped when taking them down due to the freezing temp. One year I will get around to installing hooks in the facia and just use the wand with the claw. Hope this helps. I found the icicles lights to be frustrating to work with at my old house. I personally don't want to touch the shingles in any way.
If you are referring to the pole, it telescopes and twist locks in place. The is designed really well but you can use a long pole with a hook on it and if you had some hooks or nails on the facia of your home it would do the same job.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!! Unless you want to mess around with a heat gun (I don't) it is LITERALLY impossible to get the subsequent sections of your lights gung since they are already suspended in mod air, claw or not. Big, frustrating waste of time and money!
Thanks for sharing your experience and opinion. I agree with your assessment however as you can see I overcame the design flaws too bad the company has not done this from the start. I also rewired my lights from 7 strings to 1 string so it is my preferred method of hanging lights now.
@@exoticwoodpenyou’re improperly using the tool and hooks . I made the same mistake, however when I used as mfgr suggested it’s a dream to use. I own a 1,800 single level home and hang all lights within 2 hours.
@@vapinbachelor289 Thank you for the comment, however in my case I have two different sizes of facia to attach to. Glad you were able to get it to work like the manufacture suggested. I must have missed something somewhere but I don't know how.
