I... despise fishing. Childhood memories of family fishing trips are tedious or traumatic. And eating the catch afterwards... just as bad. 40 years later, fishing to me is awful.
So when No Man's Sky 5.0 Aquarius dropped, I was crestfallen and heartbroken. I saw myself not completing an Expedition since the first one (since completed thanks to the redux) and I only missed the first one because I had no idea what was going on.
So, ignoring No Man's Sky again - I, ah, I, um, I have been playing Skyrim a lot-
Narrator: 450 hours since late May 2024 a lot.
-and yes there they have fish and fishing rods and baits and uggghhhh. Now, fish in Skyrim can be got in barrels (shoutout to my Riften boisssss) or swimming, wading or buying. And fish are important for potions yet thankfully rarely for quests. And fishing in Skyrim is crap. It's exactly what my trauma and tedium remembers. Well, not literally, permit me some hyperbole.
The thought of not completing Expedition 15 curdled in me until I sat down and determined to suffer through it.
And then... the code got all weird-
Narrator: This is a Matrix reference.
-and I started to like it. Not love, but like. Admire. Firstly, the water is just so damn lovely. Second, the fishing is relaxing. The HUD helpful. The skiff needs work: it should be moveable, steerable. I should be moveable, steerable. We are both stuck to a spot.
There is a lot else to say but it's enough. I've gotta get some fish on a Solanium planet.
