It's mind-blowing that over the 8 years since release, every update has been 100% free, including a VR version of the game, if you own the base game. No microtransactions, no battlepass, no BS. I wish more studios would stay small and know when they have a good thing going instead of inflating to the point where they "have to do those things to make a profit". The team clearly has a passion for what they're doing and it shows.

The gameplay loop of NMS is Minecraft's gameplay loop. You find a place and build with the resources you have collected. An intrinsic motivator for many in the community is trying to find a world that looks exactly like Earth and having dozens of other players join in to build a civilization as the game is pseudo-online.

I disagree. Minecraft's exploration gameplay loop when it's balanced is far more compelling than NMS. Minecraft is filled with situational dangers, you have to stay alert to survive, it's very easy to let a Creeper sneak up on you or walk into a random lava pool. NMS will rarely threaten the player, unless the player actively seeks out a challenge. I've never died just exploring in NMS. Don't reduce Minecraft to some blank slate where people just grind resources so they can build. That's an element of the game for sure, but what elevates Minecraft above the average survival-crafting game is it's dedication to situational challenges that require creativity or game knowledge to solve. Nothing in NMS has come close to something like the unexpected thrill I had when encountering my first enderman. I go into these NMS buildings overtaken by some alien parasite, and I expect some scary creature, only to realize the only thing that's going to happen is some log reading and some credit yoinking.
@KenLinx
@KenLinx 2 месяца назад
@@iminumst7827 Minecraft is only dangerous to new players. If you're kitted out and have built a home, none of the monsters pose any threat. NMS is much the same. The only difference is there being no threat of fall damage in NMS and there being weather conditions that damage you. And in either game, if your goal is just to build, the monsters don't pose any threat.

Hey Luke, I love NMS but it took a while for it to click with me, and it still may not click with you. You kinda have to figure out what you like, and what you want to do and pursue that. I wanted to find cool better weapons and ships, but in order to do that I needed to explore to get resources, I needed to do expeditions and quests in the community hub to get more money. Basically I wanted shiny new things so I could do cool ship combat and fight strong sentries, so I needed to prioritize doing things to get money in order to get the equipment in order to do those things. Later I wanted to build the perfect base so then I started exploring, getting the equipment I needed to travel further and further to find that perfect spot for my home. The game is essentially a "create your own adventure" identify what you want and then figure out what the best loop for you is in order to accomplish your goal.

I think thats something most people don't understand about no mans sky ......its not a game that tells you what to do ....not a game that gives you a loop ...instead it gives you multiple selections and things to do so you create your gameplay loop ....from going to freighters to exploring planets .....from hunting for multitools and ships to just plain fighting .......you find sth you want ...or want to do and pursue that

@karlmurunga8865 thing is i myself even enjoy some I'll admit more linear games. Like doom eternal and destiny. Very linear games where you know what to do. No mans sky is fun in that you are not told what to do. Nothing wrong in not enjoying that loop, problem is lukes failed to understand that just means it's not his type of game instead he thinks that's the games issue. Manner of fact there's a such thing as a god damn MISSION LOG. So the game actually DOES give him things to do if he wanted that. His opinion of the game imo comes across really close minded. I enjoy his vids but damn ngl this take annoyed me.

What Sean meant by everything you see is generated by the computer is, that nothing you see is on the game disc, like the planets in this trailer are not on the disc, they are all generated on the fly around you by math. That is where once you get into a system there are no loading screens, its always being generated as you fly and walk.

NMS can be fun but you just have to find the fun. It’s kind of like Minecraft - it’s a sandbox survival game but in space and with some unique tech. Explore, build, survive, upgrade, repeat. It’s got interconnected systems to encourage emergent gameplay but it definitely doesn’t guide you to the fun like other games do. There are derelict ships in space that are kind of like raids, creatures and robots to fight, some quests to do, and a very loose mainline story that tries to guide you through some of the systems to learn and features to try. That doesn’t mean people who don’t find it fun are in the wrong and I don’t think Hello Games are wrong for not wanting to guide the experience too much, it just is the game that it is and some people won’t like it. I prefer narrative experiences most of the time so I didn’t fall in love with it but the part of me that has an unhealthy relationship with DayZ, despite the jank, does enjoy it from time to time. It is a lot more fun to play with friends for sure, if you can get the kinda broken coop system to work. The community is really great online though so if you did try it out, people are willing to help and give you things you need… once you get far enough along in the game to go to places where other players are.

I think they do care, but just need a good motivation, and enough devs putting focus on it once they done with the expansion. If they don't care due to how big and successful they are, they wouldn't have turned Fallout 76 around like they did. That IS a multiplayer game, so you could assume it's just to keep its players and nothing else. But Starfield is singleplayer, so there was no motive to bring players back with vehicles, improved maps, new quests, and other features. The question is, when the expansion is out of the way, will they put more focus into filling the base game with more interesting encounters, quests, and mechanics/features? Or will it be more paid mods and barely anything else? To be honest, we probably can only hope, aside from modders making those changes and enhancements.

You wanna get into No Man's Sky? Try playing through the main story. You can also take as much time in between those missions as you like. Your first base computer doesn't have to be on the first planet your found the technology on either! You can take your time and find the planet you want to call your home and plop down your first base computer there. You might also want to do all the side missions for the base computer as it unlocks a lot of expensive things that would take forever to unlock yourself as a new player! Once you're done with the story, you have to decide what is fun for you! Do you want more storage space? You might need a bigger hold on your ship or expand your suit. So you need scanners or maps to find drop pods and crashed ships for upgrades. But then you need nanites to buy new tech so you go and hunt sentinels. But then you need a giant mech to keep you safe and enable you to stand up to an army of enemies. But then you need to upgrade your mech with new stuff as well... Starting to see the point? It's an endless journey! Don't try to reach the end. You just have to drift along. This type of gameplay is not for everyone.

Getting into No Man's Sky takes a very special mind set. It's a very hands off, "have fun your own way" kind of game, where the journey is the primary goal, not the destination. If you aren't interested in just "doing stuff," for lack of better terminology, and need an outright goal or objective, NMS just isn't for you. Even with friends, that won't change. It's far more like a SIM game than it is a "game" game.

It's an engine limitation. No amount of money or developer skills can fix that. Skyrim DID have the Open Cities mod for more seamless exploration, but I don't think even modders will be able to find a way to work around the limitation on this game. The scale is much larger, and you would be approaching a planet from anywhere and get rid of those landing cutscenes for actual landing mechanics.

People jumping into NMS looking for "progression" and fun and I understand. What I learned about playing this game is that there is no line to progress. You just jump in to the universe ,besides the early tutorial of fixing your ship after that you're on your own. Make your own adventure. Craft your own piece of the universe. Theres not a mandatory line to follow. Sure there is the story but it doesnt lock you out of the rest of the content. You can go crazy as early as hour 1. This is my own experience so it might be different to others maybe used to normal games with crafted progression story.

When it comes to No Mans Sky it really is just one of those “You’re either into it or you’re not” kinda games. I feel like it doesn’t have a traditional gameplay loop and is more just about enjoying exploring weird looking planets, building bases, gathering a fleet/squadron, and all the other random stuff it lets you do. In reality there is a lot to do in the game but you don’t have to really do any of it. The game is what you make of it, a true open sandbox to just mess around in and explore. If the premise alone doesn’t interest you and you need more of the checkbox/mission style gameplay loop then you probably won’t get much enjoyment out of the game

Prior to worlds I only had less then 5 hours in NMS. It took be 15 hours to figure out the 'loop'. TBH I think No Mans does not have a traditional game loop, it's an open world imagination RPG like DND in the sense that that the Character RPG element exists partly in your mind/imagination, left unsaid. If you go into the game with the mindset to take in the sites and enjoy the journey, this will be a great game for you

So if you’re struggling to get into it, that’s where I would start.

It's a long burn relaxation game. It's not about 'x # of hours and you get into it' but by a certain amt of time you can endlessly explore bc you're upgraded enough and you have upgraded tools that let you do what you want a lot more easily. There are some campaign missions (multiple campaign style quest lines) that I would start with in order to have pointed goals to follow while initially upgrading but the type of game is very calm - discover the lore, find views, build a home, grow a ship, see all the different views kinda thing. Another commentor said "create your own adventure" and the also works it's very pure sandbox so you settle into a comfortable position w drinks and snacks and interact w the world in whatever way you want while enjoying the discovery and views along the way. As you do that, you find what intrigues you and start to follow your own path through. If you ask 10 different players they may be playing the game 10 diff ways, you decide what you do. The commonality is everyone is exploring planets and gathering resources in order to do those 10 diff things.

It forces you to slow down, think about what your doing, and thus even just managing to build a half decente base became a small achivement. However if the resource gathering and exploring dosent grab you right away I doubt playing for 30 hourse will either. Now I love roleplaying on permadeath. Lost 4 characters so far. But I have fun strating over every time. Edit: PS. In custom difficutly you can skip the torturial and just get in a ship and go, need to be done before starting a new game

i hope the next update they do adds more story elements and bosses, because the only thing keeping people from really playing the game is that they dont really know what to do, specially in the early stages of the game whereas if they put story elements in their game people will have something to work for that they feel was expected from them by the game. Take elden ring for example, i didnt expect myself to spend 500 hours playing this game, but thanks to the really good introduction of the game i felt inclined to do more exploration and do some other stuff just beside the main story because the game rewards exploration by giving you something like pushing forward the main story or introducing new side quests and side plots, i think rewarding the players correctly is what really makes them stay and play the game more
