I love silk neck scarves, I’ve worn them for 40 years, taught by a young French coworker. I love how they add color, pattern, elegance and femininity to my simple outfits. I also love how they protect my sensitive neck skin from itchy cashmere and merino wool, I wear them a lot with my indoor sweater outfits.
I love all of these ideas. I have a lot of scarves and need to wear them more. Using them as a layer is a great idea! Have been loving your scarf jacket; just ordered it and it’s ON SALE !
I do like the layering of turtlenecks under sweaters and cardigans. I have tried the button-up shirt under sweaters and like the contrast that it shows. Love the contrasting sock idea. I will definitely give it a go. Thanks for your style inspiration.
Thanks Diane! The socks with loafers or Mary Janes is new for me and I love it!! Definitely will be wearing in repeat indoors for now, and out and about once the weather warms up a bit❤️
I love the classic sweater-over-shirt look. I’m very pale, with Soft Type coloring and undereye circles, so when I wear black, I wear a collared white shirt underneath, it makes a big difference by brightening my face. If a shirt won’t work, I wear a black-on-white print silk scarf. Thanks for all your great styling ideas❤
Hi Mary! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! I just love those thinner turtlenecks - I didn’t have any before this year and now I don’t know what I did without them!😊❤️
Hi, Sansha! So happy you're back, and I should say, with a vengeance! A wonderful video, so full of practical ideas ❤ I'm taking away these: 1) a silk scarf as a mock layer ( never thought of it before); 2) colorful socks, though I think I'll start with brown ones before venturing into something more risky; 3) a softer kind of jacket, which does seem to strike a nice balance between structured/ cosy; 4) a shirt as an outer layer. I've tried this before, but it never worked for me :(. Always looked like a medical uniform. Maybe my mistake was choosing white as outer/ inner layer. Have to try this with darker shades this time. And finally, thank you for reminding us of good old classics, like going tonal and the navy-white- and- tan combo. Thanks a lot and I wish you the quickest possible recovery! ❤❤❤
Hi Nadzeya! Thank you for the lovely comment! I’m so glad to be back and to film some content again. Cold weather dressing is my favourite so I’m really enjoying filming all the styling content 😊 I’m so glad the video was helpful!❤️ And yes, going for a shirt other than white will prevent it from looking too “medical”!
First, thank you for these style lessons. I’m loving your recent content! ❤ I think I will take all except a jacket, however soft indoors! If you have a WFH situation, it might work! I might prefer a lounge set! But then again I just prioritize comfort overall and surely not as polished as you are! 😊 I have one question for you! If you were to buy one pair of warm boots or snow boots, what will it be? Something on comfortable lines as well.. like being able to get a walk with as well! Thanks…❤
I have a pair of Ugg Adirondak boots - they aren’t stylish but keep your feet nice and warm and they also have good grip for when it’s very slippery. If they didn’t have to be so practical for Canadian winters, then I probably would go for a waterproof chunky Chelsea boot. rstyle.me/+E1Zv-WTkcG0WyJrTqsTE6Q
I loved this video Sandy’s. I’m going to give the contrasting sock a go with my Mary Jane’s. I got a pair from Flattered, they are so good! When you tied the silk scarf in the back , do the loose ends just hang in the back? I also love that scarf coat! Is the brown cool or warm leaning? Honestly, all your outfits are so good. Do you ascribe to the Allison Bornstein 3 word system describing your fashion style. If you do I would be so interested in knowing what your 3 words are! Mine are classic, sophisticated, and confident. I often would describe my style as an elevated minimalist. The three word system makes it more specific in my opinion. You look gorgeous as always!
😂 Don’t worry! It happens to me all the time - if you see a typo, it’s the phone!! I tucked the ends of the silk scarf into the sweater. It’s so thin it doesn’t add any bulk! The scarf coat is actually more of an olive colour, and I would say more in the cool side. The colour is called “fig”. I was hoping for a brown, but I actually love this colour as it’s just a bit different and goes with all my other neutrals! I actually haven’t really looked into the 3 word style description, but I recently saw a few TikToks on it and that intrigued me. Without knowing which words are available, I would probably say classic and minimal, and I love to make my outfits feel modern through more trendy shape - not sure if this would be architectural? I’ll definitely look into it a bit more😊❤️
I employ most of these ideas for office dressing. A lot of the layering I do is of necessity because I work in an older building and my office space is often so cold in the winter that I’ve had to wear fingerless gloves to keep my hands warm.
Oh my goodness! I had the same issue back in South Africa during winter. I would wear my coat and scarf in the office, and I also had a blanket to cover my legs! 😊
I love blazers, but traditional ones aren’t that comfy for a day indoors, so I wear knit ones (from Ralph Lauren). I feel frumpy in cardigans, especially long, bulky ones and I think the structure of even a soft blazer is so much more flattering than a dumpy cardi. Knit blazers are lifesavers for days in a cold office.
I totally agree! I haven’t found a knit blazer I love yet…….so still looking. I also got rid of the last of my long cardigans (for now), as they also made me feel frumpy😊😂
The brown and black Massimo duty boots went on sale they all sold out before I had chance to get brown pair 😢 only size 2&3 left in the brown and a size 2 in the black they would not fit my daughter's either i was so sad
They sell out so fast! I’ve learnt that I can’t wait until the MD sale to buy shoes as my size always sells out sooooo fast! If you have a store nearby you can call and check if they have it - I find that my store usually has the size I want even if it’s sold out online!❤️
Ive been trying to find the right kind of socks to wear with my black mary jane ballet flats been look for some lace trim ankle socks there harder to find than you would think 😂
