I think the problem with impulse buying is the fact people don't do their research. When I first got my hamster - I work at PetSmart and a woman brought in her hamster saying we HAD to take it or else her hamster was gonna be released into the wild. I ended up adopting him out because he had SEVERE wet tail and knew he would die if he didn't have 24/7 care - he came in those little pink cages. He was a long-haired syrian, and I didn't know any better. I did think it was way too small, so eventually I bought something bigger but still didn't realize it was WAY too small. It wasn't until I happened to do research on why my new hamster was biting at the cage bars - this is a different hamster from the one I mentioned, my friend currently owns him as I had to move unexpectedly due to a family death and having to take care of my grandmother. I planned on getting him back later on, but my friend begged me to keep him and my mother pressured me into saying yes, I still very much regret that - that I realized that the cage I had was too small. It was some 4-story cage I found on ebay that I thought was huge! I felt terrible after that and immediately got her the All Living Things Rabbit Home and wire meshed it. I also updated her food to Sunburst hamster food and mix it with mealworms because I was told on a Small Animal page I'm in that the Kaytee FortiDiet is trash and that Oxbow isn't that great because it has hay in it I think they said? Anyhoo, my hamster is a lot happier. H She has nearly 800 sq inches of space to roam and NEARLY 6 inches deep of bedding - I didn't find out they needed 6 inches deep of bedding until I came across this video, which was after I bought my cage unfortunately.

Exactly that's what happens with little kids and horses they go through the pony phase parents buy them a horse and then they get bored can't afford it and the horse ends up in slaughter when you can part loan and lease or just ride an muck out at a stable and it's the exact same with small animals just because they're smaller doesn't mean you don't have to research

That reminds me of my very sweet hamster who passed away... she would let anyone hold her and we couldn't afford a bigger cage but she never bit the bars out of her tiny cage and she would only bite them if she wanted attention and I still miss her (btw her name was rosie and sometimes I call my new hamster rosie)

I feel bad for you. My hamster cupcake died 2018. She lived for 2 years 7 months. I miss her a lot. My current hamster Pikachu has respiratory problems and gray has skin disease and bc of coronavirus I can't take them to the vet.

If I wt pets of my own they have to live in my room for the most part but not always. I had a hamster that lived in my horse Pom and so does my fish. My dogs live in the house of course and my cat pretty much lives in my room but we have a gate she can jump over or goes through a little door that my dogs can't fit through. She can leave when she wants and the gate is there so the dogs don't eat her food which is in my room

SAME! I need my hamster youtuber. I watch no one but you! I started watching you the week I was going to get my 3rd hamster at age 15 and realized I did EVERYTHING wrong. Then I was prepared to have Valkyrie and give her the best life I could. I'm so thankful. Because of you hamster's lives are saved and they thrive rather than survive. :p NEVER don't have a hamster!!! I am still 15 btw XD and ofc Valkyrie is now 5 months old >.< They grow so fast!

I really want one to. My mum and dad said in have till July 4th to show I am responsible enough by looking after my fish I already have,not be reminded to do stuff and do lots of chores. If I'm naughty they add another week for when I get the hamster. It's tough but I'll get a hamster!!!!!

Kaiyah K personally I have the same issue whenever I get a new ham! I can recommend maybe scoping them up in some toilet tube or some flat object and allows them to crawl on then put the object (with hammie on it) right next to your hand and allows your ham to crawl onto your hand, (remember to stay quite close to the floor just in case they jump or decided that your finger is a snac 🙂) also remember to rub your hands in his bedding so that decreases the chance of him biting you,
