I would cap the posts so they don't fill with water and put a few boulders on the sides so no one can drive around. You guys did a great job and looks nice.👍
@randallan8158 as a 19 old kid we had a place that alot of people went with they're dates. It was a old rock quarry and just like you said we just went right around the gate with our trucks. We had a well worn in trail. I'll be it still gets use to this day.
All drive-thru junk food vendors should be mandated to write the car's license number on the "food" packaging. Along with Singapore sanctions for littering and graffiti vandalism.
I live rural and I've had several people drive UP the hill to my house,... drove past my" No Trespassing" signs....... I put a sign up "ROAD SPIKED" permission required to proceed........... BOY DID THAT WORK for the few that could read.OH WELL.
That's good too but like the spike idea.... along with real spikes about a hundred feet from the sign..( custom built with deployment system for after dark ). works really nice, ask a Sheriff Deputy about that , the one that didn't believe my sign and could not read too , I guess.... oh darn.
I put 6” round posts cemented in the ground and 2@ 12’ tube gate all around my farm (6 sets) 35 years ago and I had to replace all of the gates because they rusted out but the posts are still going strong, nice job!
I've seen them drive around the gates and make another way in. They've also driven further down the road and start to get in that way or make a layover point off the road. Those small trees aren't going to stop it unless you fence it off as well.
You obviously have never driven heavy machinery over untouched ground before. Anyone going around is going to probably sink in about 6" of mud. I dont think anyone is going around as easy as you think.
The suggestions for tire spikes (and signage) are on point. I use deep ditches (the removed spoil makes nice berms) and dump logs and wood waste around my perimeter.
The implied permission has now been removed, it would certainly leave me or any “reasonable person” (per se) in no doubt not to enter without lawful authority or reasonable excuse . All the best from England.
Great Gate, you should although had fill the posts with concrete and exact in th middle of the gate a small stop post with two hole and a lock stick on both gates, that way in a storm it want clapper until it self destructs. within a month or so there will be a pad at both sides of the gate😆
Get concrete barriers like they use at race tracks. Set them with a crane and you are done. Many Concrete companies pour them when the trucks come back with leftovers.
If you get a lot of snow like I do you might find you want to move those gates up so you don't have to push/drag them through the snow. I did my double gate like 30+ years ago, still as good as the day I installed them. Nice work. 👍
You should fill the posts with concrete and either get big boulders on the sides or make a rebar enforced concrete pieces. That way nobody would try to get around. And perhaps a hinge to keep the two gates locked together to prevent them from swinging a bit.
Isn't that just brilliant? At some point there was someone who had to invent that one vehicle add-on with the sole purpouse of driving fence posts in the ground fast and efficient. Whoever it was, well done. :)
Is that thingy removable from the truck bed, I mean what do you do with the truck when you don't need it? How many times a year do you drive poles into the ground?
After WWII, a lot of farmers bought Jeeps and put augers on the back that hooked up to a PTO. Great way to put a LOT of fence posts up in a short amount of time.
Dave it’s ashamed we land owners need to take these steps to keep people off of our properties. Unfortunately they’ll push on the gates and loosen everything up. Best of luck it looks good, Happy Easter…John
Good way to do it. We augered holes and put telephone poles 6 ft down, to hold our gate. I think that was 15+ years ago, still fine shape. Will you fill the box beam with anything?
i made caltrops and spread where trespassers drive in. they think they are driving past the gate but end up with 4 flat tires. then we have the car towed. caltrops are easy to make
Just a tip if you driving posts like that again, if you measure from the top down instead of from the bottom up to get your depth line it removes any issue from the posts being different lengths. Saves having to cut the tops 😀
Like the reflective tape . Think you should have hung gates at least 1' above ground. No set of gates will hang level against time, weight. Should have hung gates with slight crown where they meet in middle, then you wont have a set of sway-back gates. My 2 cents. Some things to think about next time you hang gates. I did like Galvanized Posts. Good watch
Well done, very professional, gate hangers up and down so those rascals can't lift the gate off the hangers. Here in England I've never seen a gate you can adjust to the hanger, makes sense.
Nice job, but I was just curious as to what’s going to stop folk driving around the gates, there’s plenty of room for a 4WD to get around 3 of the four sides ? . Cheers
It is a pity that we need these extra safety precautions to keep unwanted people off our property, but it is reality. Good looking gate you have there!
Those guys worked like a well oiled machine, those sets of gates came out perfect. I like the galvanized posts, I used cedar trunks for mine, looks cool but anyone with a chainsaw can get in! 😂
The post will eventually sag towards the center if you don’t shore it up. I like many of the comments below but I would also install cameras and a sign saying you are being recorded. That will stop a lot of the trespassers. My brother had the same issue with trespassers on his commercial property until he added surveillance. They are cheap to purchase and install now and give you a piece of mind. I can’t wait for more videos, you do a great job!
I gated off all my access points several years ago and added boulders and steel posts on the sides to make sure no one could sneak in. So far it's kept people out.
Hi Dave, new subscriber, RU-vid AI algorithm had this video pop up. Yes! Gates and Fences! The greatest things since sliced bread. I love that post pounding truck!!!!!!💯👍
3/31/24..Happy Easter Dave🐇🥕🐰..Lots of interesting equip to 'pound posts' into your soft/no rocks ground. Are you going to put some type of 'top' on these posts?..gotta keep rain/snow out or else rust eats 'em up, aye? Also agree with other comments re: left/right sides of gates..gotta get something..'T' posts & weld chain across..or grab some of Andrew's 'keep rocks' (from his Blasting project) & spot few lft/right. Placing few big Rocks & your 'new' Skid Steer or Excavator would make another interesting video, aye?😊⚙️🔧💪🍺
Dave, question here, the gates are amazing and you should of done this long before now, BUT on the one enterence, you can just drive around the gates, unless you plant on installing some fence there as well??
The post look ok,but anybody with a battery powered sawzall could be through that gate in minutes.I used 6 inch well casing for my post, 5 feet in the ground with concrete. As for the gate I used a rail road rail.Hope you don't live in snow country as the gate is to low to the ground.
# 1:03 don't make those hinge bolts @ the same level, 1/4 inch I recommend, so you don't have to get them BOTH started [ when putting the gate on ] at the same time.
Kids that are finding themselves and adults that are lost, those are the ones who usually pull in and find and empty lot to do whatever they do. That post driving rig does not mess around. I bet you couldn't dig one of those holes by hand in the time you set all 4 gates; nice. Big rocks spaced so far apart that it is easy to walk and maintain but not so easy to drive through would keep them from going around. Last time I had a problem with that and installed a gate, they drove down 100 yards in the field and cut down a couple trees so they could drive onto the road there, Big rocks ended that.
If you want to seal up your posts take some packing styrofoam jam it down in there tight about 6 in and fill it up with concrete or instead of concrete you use expanding foam cut off flush and paint it I've done both
What you need the.do Dave is either fill the poles or concrete or put a cap on them so the water don't go down inside of it. Freeze and busted steel right out
I don't understand why the yellow vehicle with the pile driver has a turret. It seems like unnecessary expence when all you need to do is turn the vehicle round. Having said that, it is a handy machine.
Wobbling drill bits done make them cut better it just ruins the bit from cutting straight .Hold the drill bit straight it'll fly thru using the taper bits. Shot of cutting oil helps !!
Two inch pipe welded in center on each gate with a 1 1/2" pipe to make a gate lock to hold gates straight in center will make it stronger and easier then chain n locks.
When a bit gets a dead spot in it you have to wobble it to get past that point. We use old bits in that manner all the time. They are expensive so you get as much use out of them as possible!
hi, yes it will last a long time but not the black paint that you painted your posts, because on galvanized metal the paint does not stain it dries you must treat the metal with vinegar before painting, I have already experienced with galvanized metal and all the paint has lifted
If you put a fence along the side and place big rocks just in front it's going to discourage anyone from trying to get around as to get back on main street they have to come back out same way that they have gone in so if they are stealing they're going to get arrested for it or for trespassing as they are behind fence
You might want to put welded on caps, on those posts, to keep the rain out. It will make them last a lot longer. You don't want to have to do it over. 😁✌🖖
