We're headed there. Everything lives by the same laws of life, eat or be eaten. They trying to make it more difficult to eat. Based upon these new regulations and what the fish and wildlife officer told you I can now guarantee you that the fish and game does not understand the laws they are creating. I can also guarantee they don't fish themselves because this is lawmaking that accomplishes nothing except allows them to sit around and eat donuts because they've banned so many types of fishing. There is no specific bait for sharks. Also drones don't cause any problems when used correctly. I'm going to be spending time doing more research and will be showing up in City hall meetings to publicly voice my opinion. I encourage you to do the same.
MORE regulations? No surprise here. I’ve watched DFG restrictions involving saltwater fishing become progressively tighter since the late 1960s. We can only wonder if someday in the future, on a trip to the beach, a young kid will ask his parents, “Isn’t fishing illegal now?” and one of them will respond, “No, son …that’s not true! In fact, that’s the fishing area right over there where that line of people is standing. Once it’s your turn, you have 20 minutes out on the pier to fish …but sometimes, if the Pier Warden that day is in a good mood, they might even let you fish for a whole half hour!” Thankfully, I relocated to the Baja California coast nearly 14 years ago; so I am no longer subject to such crap. ;-)
The problem with & Game regulations is that there is too much left to the game warden and not enough solid rules. Thus can sometimes help or hurt you depending on the situation, but I would rather know the law clearly than take a chance at what the law might mean. To many gray areas will never benefit the fisherman or the fish.
@@lauras2046 You know how many times i will walk the beach to a spot where no one is swimming. Then a few morons come running out to where i am and start swimming? ALOT
Prior to the ban on white shark I hooked one from my boat incidental to thresher fishing. I was using a Penn 50 wide reel, and roller guide rod with a whole bonito as bait. Was able to get a visual on the shark as it was moving slow. There is no way you could land one unless you had way heavier gear. I cut my line after about 3/4 hour as the shark didn't seem to realize it was hooked, very poor sport. I don't know why anyone would try to mess with one.
The shark chum law Is just a way for them to tell you can’t throw anything in the water that attracts a shark if they so choose to tell you to do so they will have a law to back them up.
I think I know where the language for Great White fishing is coming from. There was a guy catching them off the beach in Del Mar. In order to bust him DFW has to catch him with a shark which was difficult. He could be actively fishing but just tell them he is fishing for surf perch, doesn't matter the rig, prosecuting is difficult without and actual GW. La Jolla Canyon is a known breeding area so now they have that in their back pocket as well to prevent someone from fishing for GWs. The drone use may have to do with the coastal flight path. Can't have drone fishermen and Cheetahs banners colliding. Join the San Diego MPA Collaborative and go to a meeting, it's free and pretty laid back. Enforcement officers from every agencies are usually there and would appreciate you sharing what different rigs target what from shore. The boots on the ground guys are good people, just overworked and underpaid like the rest of us and have to enforce laws from Anza Borrego to the Coast. Good luck and hope you are taking advantage of the legal surf fishing in the Swamis MPA.
There are no drones allowed on the beach I fish, the only time I've seen a drone was when someone(probably DFW) kept stopping and hovering their drone right in my face. I moved to another hole, they follwed and did the same thing. This happened about 3 or 4 times until I got fed up and thought, "you want it? You got it pal". Bullseyed the drone with my plug and sank it. Reeled it in, cut my braid free of the props, got my lucky craft back and tossed the drone back in the drink. Waited for someone to approach me and they never did. Pretty sure it was DFW hiding in the bushes. But since drones aren't allowed on that beach, maybe they didn't want to catch an earful from me? If it was some jackass just trying to keep me from fishing, I expect they would have tried to run up on me and act a fool.
It’s really difficult to prove it!!! On the bright side, they are trying to make it easier to arrest someone who is targeting white sharks. Because it is almost impossible to prove that unless they have one in their truck bed.
doesnt really change anything just dont chum the water or use shark lures. you can fish for sting rays the same way you fish for sharks. just tell them your fishing for what ever bites . they cant prove anything unless you have the shark on the line
@@fired_up_fishing the past 50 times i have been shore fishing i caught nothing but sting rays i want to use them for bait but its illegal shit is frustrating i donno bout you but im going to start killing each one i catch. theres nothing but rays in long beach
This law is cannot be enforcible, as written. I think the bigger picture is that in the years ahead, we're not going to be able to fish off our coast. Sounds extreme, but read on. How many of you know what the near future "30/30 Law" is. The state will be closing 30% of CA shoreline & I believe out 3 naut. miles. Not sure about that, part. Also, 30% of all open land used for fishing & hunting. Also, in 5 or 7 years gas-powered boats will be banned, in CA. I'm not sure if that means banned "period" or banned from further purchasing a gas powered boat. Since "lead" hunting projectiles have already been banned for hunting in CA, I reasonably assume that lead sinkers will soon be banned. There's more but google the one's I've mentioned for more info. Let's all keep electing these same politicians, until we find ourselves living in cages!
As a hunter and fishermen I stopped using lead before any laws were passed. Its undeniably damaging to our natural resources including the fish and birds.
This law is only for white shark fishing or for all sharks, since from time to time I catch regular sharks on the Newport beach jetty and also what link is there to see all the new ocean fishing regulations, I would really appreciate this
The bills main concern is for protecting white sharks, but the way its worded could really change land based shark fishing depending on how fish and game wants to handle it.
Thank you for the video. We ALL want to know what the new laws mean! Please research this further… maybe even get a Game & Fish person to do a video with you explaining
Laws are very vague they will probably just say anything is shark bait to get u to leave, they will probably have signs that a white shark is there otherwise there really is no way to know, they always say there’s no drones allowed on state beaches, but I’ve yet to find the law. As well I doubt they know the difference what your going for as u stated, hopefully they are educated enough.
I am definitely going to do some more research on the rules and regulations in regards to dropping baits with your drone or kayak. I'm really curious to see how fish and game approaches us land bases shark fisherman this coming year. Might have to do a follow up video on all of this.
If there isn’t anything in the bill talking about the drone thing, then they’re shit outta luck. Just gotta look up the FAA drone regulations about flying on the state beaches, and the regulation for flying in whatever airspace you are fishing in.
States are allowed to make a law that is more stringent than a Federal law. That is why there are problems with Cannabis, it is still a Federal no-no. I haven't checked recently on the different rules for quad copters in California for a couple of years now. Launching form a boat was fine. Land based needed permits and, and, and. So I just fly in the mountains. Less hassles, ish. I have medical issues and that is why I went to quad copters to help with fishing. Getting old is not for the faint hearted. LOL Good luck on translating all the legalize. Take care and stay safe.
I couldn't find anything in the new Cal DFW ocean fishing regs that refers to what the "GW" said. Did you verfiy he was indeed a legitimate Cal DFW warden and not a poser?
Global shark populations have declined over 70% since the 1970’s. Sharks are good. We need more sharks. Having said that it isn’t guys with fishing rods that decimated their populations.
Everybody always wants to tell a human being what they should be doing or what they shouldn't be doing I'm pretty much goddamn tired of all law enforcement you go out and buy a fishing license and you can't even finish the way you want to it's pretty much b******* that all these conservation officers or acting like they're f****** god their job is to make sure we're not doing anything illegal or keeping over limits who gives a f*** how we fish
I think the government works for us, and this is far over-reaching. It needs to stop all the laws, it does not benefit anyone. The 30x30 is just a way to make us more dependent on them and less on ourselves.
This seems like a poor attempt to criminalize all shark fishing from the beach. As someone who enjoys fishing and surfing our coast, we must always consider the VERY HIGH probability of nearby white sharks anytime of day, all year long Edit: thanks for the informative video man!! 🤙
In short, you can't fish shark. Ask any marine biologist, White sharks are known to be in all coastal waters and bays. White sharks are pretty much found globally. Time to hang up the shark gear along with Abalone gear. What's next? You can't fish where fish are known to frequent? Can't hunt where animals are known to frequent?
I feel you brother!! California is getting pretty bad! I’m just trying my best to do my part and spread awareness to things like this… we just have to stick together as fisherman!!!
i hate the idea that shark fishing attracts sharks. it doesnt. my bait is no different that all these schools of bait out there. im just hoping theyre there. im not chumming for sharks. the whole idea is just stupid.
“To attract a great white” .. we aren’t using bait “to” (for the purpose of) attract a white shark. We’re trying to catch a thresher for the freezer. I guess if a white shark is sighted then we gotta reel up and move.
Bud you guys need to get off the net and RU-vid. Posting videos of catching GWs in California is just to ambitious....but some people just need to have egos stroked and are messing it up for all of us. We are looking to start fishing the beaches of the Mexican Coast and deserted locations in Florida. I have caught a big tiger that was on Sharkweek in 2009. I made sure I did not disclose the location. Websites with uneducated people trying to represent our sport only give us grief. We are not the cause of the problem, places with finning are. We just feed the stupid and ambitious biologists information with tagging and other stupid stuff so we can have our sport regulated and in turn closed down. Best of luck my dear friend. People need to figure our that we think tagging sharks is conservation in the eyes of the world. The rest of the world is starting to think sharks are like dolphins and are off limits.
This is why I never fish with bait, ... not ever..! I avoid 99% of nontarget species by casting lures only.., as I know what will take lures and what won't. Personally, I think shark fishing is pointless and a waste of time and tackle because you will eventually get a bit off and those big stainless hooks are not cheap and neither are stainless wire leaders, or snaps, ... You know the drill…. So, .. If people stop fishing with bait... Problem solved….!
It’s just not cool to fish from a beach where people are swimming. I wouldn’t want to swim where people were fishing that’s for sure. I gather this isn’t what you want to hear but it’s how I feel.
