Hi Plantfriends,
Today i want to show how i airlayer & propagate my houseplants. Especially with expensive plants we don`t want to take risks while propagating!
MV & a verrucosum will be airlayered and/or cut in this video. Thank you for being here.
Enjoy ♥
xoxo Kristina

Kristina, I make it a point to support people w small businesses who do things well. Today I'm doing plant and house chores, so I'm watching all your videos from the beginning, watching the full commercials and commenting for the algorithm.

Thank you , i'm glad you liked it. Have you ever propagated such a big Top cutting before ?
@joelh6514
@joelh6514 3 года назад
The biggest top cutting on my verrucosum was just a couple leaves. I have also had good success with air layering, but I prefer using damp perlite in a propagation bin for my single node cuttings.

@@joelh6514 oh yes if I don't have time to airlayer in advance I love to use perlite as well! It's the best. 🙌

Great technique. Thank you for sharing. How long did you you leave the moss ball around the Philodendron? I’m air-layering a cut leaf Philodendron. I’ve had the node and aerial roots wrapped for over a month, same method and materials as you and I have only the tips of roots poking out. Do you think blocking light with an opaque bag will encourage root growth?

really helpful video and well explained!! i have a new rhaphidophora tetrasperma i think this method would work well on 🤗

Oh I bet, they produce nice aerial roots, so they'd probably grow into the moss really fast as well. Would love to see a video on it 😉

I can only recommend the method! My only advice is to NOT leave it on for tooo long, cause you might not be able to untangle all the moss anymore 😂. Speaking out of personal experience here.

Hallo! Lovely video. I also really liked your house tour video. Just wanted to double check... Is it ok to cut up in node sections like you did leaving the last main root system section as a mere stick? I thought each section needed at least one leaf as a photosynthesis motor, if you will, to keep that section alive...? Did the sticky left over with the main root manage to survive? Or maybe it already showed sign of a potential little leaf coming through before you cut it? Vielen Dank!

First of all thank you for stopping by :) I'm glad you enjoyed the tour. I don't know if you have watched this video till the end, but at 10:54 you can see the outcome of stem cuttings like this 😊. It is absolutely fine to propagate with just a stem piece. It's almost surprising how much energy the plant can have in a little piece of stem. So if I got you right you are asking about the last piece of stem that is potted up in the nursery pot ...with some roots of course. In this case the plant can still just take up nutrients through the roots, so it really isn't struggling. By cutting it, the plant hormones go into action and start the process of awakenig axillary buds on the nodes that are left on the stems. These the grow into new shoots which eventually push out new leaves. I propagate plants regularly with just a piece of Stem ( with a node), no leaves, not even roots sometimes. It's honestly amazing what plants can do.

@@LeafyLuster thanks for your reply! Actually, I remember once having to cut down a suffering fiddle leaf fig given to me by friends who no longer had time for that one plant they had. And a week later a lot of little sprouts came out in proximity of its nodes! Apparently related to some type of cells that go into revival mode I read somewhere. I just didnt realise multiple plants have this. It aaaaaall makes sense now!
