Trelino consider moulding recessed handles on either side of the outside for added carrying convenience. Blue urine tank needs a narrow viewing strip down the side to determine the level and prevent over flow and know when to empty.
Thanks for the thorough details. Been looking for a simple urine diverting toilet for years here in the US where they are so much more complicated (more moving parts, more components to clean, and way more expensive). Excited to finally find a simple, streamlined, reasonably priced toilet. However, Trelino’s website did not have a lot of details or comprehensive pictures. Thankfully your video answered all my questions. Nice job. Happy travels.
We already bought the Trelino (the smallest version) and I was looking for videos of tips for maintaining and using it - yours was very informative, thank you!
When out camping, we use the composting bag. When full or if smelly, we dig a latrine and burying it! We have the Separett. I would much prefer this streamline, less component toilet (and 700.00 cheaper!). We disconnected our fan, and use the cat liter - pine pellets with baking soda- works fabulous! (It is also our 2 🐱🐱 liter-we never smell anything (except right after anyone goes - just like a bathroom would be.). When the Separett expires, we will get the Trevino!🎉
I have watched a couple videos on "composting toilets" (some argue that the actual term should be COMPOST toilet) such as the oGo and Natures Head. This is the 1st I've seen of this non-mechanical model. It certainly has some advantages (price is a big one) over these other models. perhaps in the future you'll get a chance to try out one of these mechanical models (I suggest the oGo personally based on the videos) and then comment on whether you feel that the extra cost for it is worth it compared to the Trelino. Extremely well done video and extremely helpful and informative.
So far, this looks to be the BEST RV toilet I've seen! I love that you can use compostable bags, the poop section is larger which makes more sense AND it looks much easier to keep clean....I WANT ONE! Van life in Australia, made sooo much easier 🎉
Thank you for creating this video. You clearly have a lot of experience with it, and why you moved over to it. This will help me make a decision on our next campers toilet.
Thanks for your great review of the Trelino toilet. We are currently re-designing our Land Rover 130 camper and this video has absolutely convinced me that the Tremilo composting toilet is the way to go. That was one of the most comprehensive equipment reviews I have seen for a long time!👍
Thank you for such a great, funny, frank review. We have just started building out a sprinter van, I'll have to head over to your German channel for more information on travelling through Europe by campervan.
Thank you for this very thorough review! It has made a huge difference for us in knowing such a great option is available. We now feel confident deciding on the Trevino!👍😊
Thank you both for the detailed video on the Trelino, we live in NSW Australia and there is nothing here like your composting toilet..we have an Iveco van on order which should arrive in May, so we bought the trelino from Germany and it has just arrived, we are thrilled with it and can’t wait to actually use it.. thank you again so much. Paula & Graeme
@@tillykelp6340 Yes they will ship to Australia sorry cannot give cost on delivery but they will calculate delivery costs to your address when they send the invoice.
This is exactly what I've been looking for for my van! The composting toilets in the US are a lot taller and have more moving components, I just needed something simple and short. Just ordered the small! I'm a little worried that the urine canister will be too small or slosh while driving, but we'll see. Unfortunately, your code didn't work for the US website, but thanks for the thorough description.
Oh, thanks for letting us know. There's a plug in case you're worried about sloshing, but unless the container is really 95% filled, we haven't had much of a problem, the membrane does it's job pretty well. We do use 3 urine canisters to extend the reach a little.
You managed to explain the positioning requirements very delicately, i was wondering how a girl manages that! But i’m more concerned about my husband’s aim! 😂 I can’t stand the smell of chemical toilets. I’ve been looking into composting ones for a while now. This was a really good rundown.
Thank You, this toilet meets every need for a urine diverting toilet, perfect size, no drilling holes in van to vent, easy emptying and more. Thanks for the review, what would we do without this type of review.
Good review and this is a contender! Just now seeing this, but looking at options to avoid over reliance on the black tank we ugly Americans have in our oversized campers (that hold 350+ liters). I am curious what people are doing with the loose lid when using (I guess I will have to put a piece of cleanable sheet metal on the wall to stick it if the magnets are strong enough on the lid). Also, the urine bottle looks like it would be hard to completely empty with just a middle spout and a flat top, but at least it is non-complex for cleanliness and lifespan.
Excellent. This is the most affordable of the ones I’ve seen, and while I’ve made some elements of this, some parts are harder to duplicate than others. I’ll use your code when I buy it.
How long does your M last for urine container and poo container? Also as paper dries it out also, and more litter or pellets etc does, couldn’t that be enough for drying the poo in a hot climate?
Hi, sorry for the delay, we weren't getting notifications for this channel and were logged in to the other one. We can go for about 1.5 days per urine container (we use 3 so that we can bridge 4.5 days in total), and ~3 days per bag. We have indeed discovered recently that we can forego the litter if we keep the ventilator running.
Great review, I just got the small one and I love it (So simple and well engineered at the same time) Do you use the cleaning vinegar straight or diluted? I worry if I dilute the vinegar with water in a spray bottle the water will cause it to go bad after a while but i'm also not sure if straight vinegar would be too strong?
Love your review! I'm so sad, though... I live in the United States and would like to order the kit to build my own, by it's only on the German site and cannot ship to the US.
Hi Shirley. If the solids are covered by some kind of litter, we notice no smells. (Except maybe some kind of "earthy smell", which is the smell of the coconut fibers that we use) If the ventilator is running, we can even forego the litter and we still won't smell anything, except maybe when it's very hot and the bucket hasn't been emptied in a couple of days. Hope this helps!
Great content, getting my ruler, and will order via ur link. Thanks again for sharing the information covering all the aspects. Do you empty no2 bag after every use? If yes, why to have a bigger no1 container?
Hi! No, we use the no2 bag for about 3 days - it really depends on the amount of toilet paper used (and on what you eat, I suppose 😂). Hope this helps!
Great video. How easy is it to check the liquid level in the tank? Have you ever overfilled it? Do you have a system for knowing when to change out the tank? Looking at the Evo L model which has a pretty good size tank so maybe less of an issue but still a concern. Thx
Oh yes, unfortunately, overfilling has happened 🤦♂️😁 We know that we can go 1.5 days per canister, but we can stretch it to 2 in many cases. And sometimes at night you kinda hope it‘ll be fine until the morning because you just don‘t want to change it when you‘re half asleep. Sometimes, that doesn‘t work out. A sensor solution is in the works though…
Yes, we have an evo now. It‘s basically lighter, thinner materials, no more wood (so easier to handle in the shower space), and has a comfier seat as well as an attached lid with soft-close. We‘d pick the evo except for very heavy people.
That'll be the day I drop $500-$1000k on a few pieces of molded plastic!🤯 Truth be told...you can buy a divertor for $70 and with a little imagination, create your own very unique compost toilet with a few other household items. Or could fall for some darn good marketing and buy this here glorified bucket!😂👍
If you email them directly you might be able to. We’re in Australia. unable to purchase on their website, but emailed them directly and they arranged it all. Had to pay euros directly into their account. It took one week to arrive from Germany with TNT. Very efficient service.
Thanks for your opinion. I think we answered that point in the video. It's a matter of perspective. Somebody needs to design such a product and run a company with it. 🤷♂️
You actually dropped a sausage threw the hole for your demonstration....a classy touch, well done on the video guys, and I'm being honest when I say that !!
We don‘t eat meat, and that particular sausage was left by house sitters in our freezer. We didn‘t trust it enough to give it to someone else, so… 😁 Thank you!
«Composting toilet? Where does the «composting» take place, in the trash bin? This is a separating toilet, not a composting toilet. In Separet Tiny (same sort of toilet from Sweden) the producer recommends no additives to the #2, no coconut flour or soil.
You're right about that, we're using the terms recommended by the manufacturer. We'd pointed that out to them previously, but they (correctly) stated that composting toilet is what people typically look for, so that's our search term. Can't fault us for wanting our video found after the work we put in it ;-)
@@olyaandalextravel You made me look up my own manufacturer, the Swedish company Separett. Their company name is a commercial variant of the Swedish word “separating”, separate in english. On their Swedish web pages they sell “Urine-separating toilets”, in English spoken countries they sell “composting toilets”. It is not correct, but I see that it is difficult to change this from a commercial standpoint. In Germany they sell “Trenntoaletten” i.e. “split-toilets” => separating toilets.
@@kjellg6532 Agreed! We often run into that problem when having to choose between "the right way" and the "commercially viable way". You can see our German language videos where we use the term Trockentrenntoilette because in German, that is the term people use. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vo582dy4sw8.html
Cookies are a technical foundation of the web, they're not generally the evil thing they're made out to be by the media. But it's your decision, of course.
You could, but if everyone does it at the same tree, it would smell quite fast. We‘re in Europe, not that much wilderness left here. Might be different in North America.
@@sleddy01 A graphical design element is "condescending"? Sorry, if you can't properly explain what you mean, if it's too much to ask to write more than a single, vague and ultimately weird sentence, you might as well leave it be. This is a waste of time, and since I'm unwilling to waste time like that: One more answer like that, and we'll block you.
