What's up GC Fans! On this episode we upgrade our driveshaft on our TJ! If you haven't seen the video series yet, here are some of our previous videos. Wasn't easy fitting 38s on this TJ!
We bought the rubicon for how much?!? • We Bought the CHEAPEST...
First mods on the rubicon, video 1! • 5 Starter Wrangler Mod...
38s no lift on this rubicon?!? • 38s with NO LIFT Jeep ...
DC Driveshaft upgrade - • EVERY Lifted Jeep NEED...
After installing our Double Cardon driveshaft, we were experiencing some serious vibrations with our 2005 jeep wrangler rubicon. We did not need to install a slip yoke eliminator kit because rubicons come with fixed flanged rear outputs from the transfer case. If you own a non rubicon model, you must first install a slip yoke eliminator kit.
We discuss the importance of setting your pinion angle properly. This can be done using a cheap angle finder (amzn.to/3gUZUGr). You must first measure the slope of the driveshaft, and then you must measure the slope of the differential. The goal is to get the differential pointing 1-2 degrees lower than the driveshaft in order to compensate for the rise when torque is applied.
Installing rear adjustable upper control arms gives you the necessary ability to control the angle of the differential to properly set the pinion. It is seriously much easier to install adjustable control arms vs fixed. Check out the entire video to see exactly how its done on a jeep wrangler rubicon!

It must be nice to have a partner to help. I have modified my old TJ completely alone without any sort of help at all. I guess I can feel a sense of doing all the modifications myself with only you two helping with advise and instructions. But the long tedious hours of wrenching, slipping wrenches and skinning knuckles, breaking fingers, and alignment without any help really take their toll. My modifications have been, a Skyjacker 4. 5 inch lift system, with hydro shocks, Teraflex adjustable track bar. Rusty's heavy duty tie rod, new front ball joints, new left front wheel bearing, new left front axle shaft, new upper and lower front ball joints, Skyjacker spring isolators, Hella halogen retrofit lights with LED light bulbs instead, Cree 52 inch light bar with off brand bracket and Cree flood light pods, Hella 6 inch fog lamps, 5 inch ditch lights, Smitybilt stainless steel front single hoop / double tube bumper with light brackets, Smitybilt rear stainless steel double tube bumper, Smitybilt stainless side step bars, Performance Aluminum 3 core radiator with electric fan, 33 inch Dick Cepek Extreme Mud Terrain tyres, stock canyon rims with hubcentric spacers (a no-no but not made of money) Bestop Super top with top sliding windows, and a bunch of little things here and there. When I spoke of installing everything over the years, everyone says they wanted to help. When it came down to it, nobody helped. The strange thing is, I never asked. Everyone volunteered when they heard me speaking of upcoming modifications. When I got the parts and I mentioned if they still wanted to help, something came up. I would have rather nobody volunteered when I did not ask and then when I got the part and asked if they were up to it still, they back out. Oh well, at least I can say nobody has ever touched my aging beauty.

I didn't see her helping. She hung out for the intro, then dipped out and let him do all the work and operate the camera himself, and then showed up at the end for the outro.

On a driveshaft with u joints on both ends,,take a digital angle finder ,, put it on face of either tail shaft or pinion,,zero it out,,then put it on opposite,,that would b degree shim you will need,,or how much degree you need to compensate for

9:25 You have the same problems with gloves I do, haha! Just a word of caution though - since you said you haven't done adjustable arms before - those nuts NEED to be as tight as possible. Mine came loose, resulting in the control arm adjustable threads to strip and the control arms separated front and back. In order to tighten them, I bought a set of crowfoot wrenches (on the replacement set, that is!).

I want to do this jeep on a budget. can i install rear upper control arms with the stock drive shaft to get rid of the vibration or do you have to install a slip yoke eliminator and new drive shaft?

For a 2.5 lift front lowers and rear uppers will fix your ride quality , that is if adjusted properly . get the rest of the arms when/if you can afford them but for the most part those are what you would need.

Garage Couple no, you need to have uppers and Lowers to properly adjust - otherwise you’re adjusting the pinion and wheelbase. It’s a misconception that you only need the uppers.

Unless you want to change your wheel base - you will need to do both. You could easily be hitting your gas tank skid with your trackbar (assuming you have a relocation bracket and stock gas tank skid - and some aftermarket) with just changing the uppers.
