I’m so freaking happy for this channel’s growth. I recently was going through my subscribed list to remove some subscriptions and found this channel. Dude you are awesome I remember watching the entire axe start to finish video with no music right when it came out, and other videos that blew up. You have such a great personality and the quality of your videos is amazing. Honestly just from your videos to me you feel like a really nice dude, I don’t know you in person but again you seem very nice, and you can clearly see you put a lot of work into your videos. Keep going dude and you’ll get to 1 mil some day I’m sure. Love your vids keep them up man!

Careful with Brass Tito, Zinc can vaporize and it does a weird popcorn thing if you heat it up too much. The Zinc basically boils out of the copper and you have metal splattering everywhere. I was just able to melt some zinc and copper together last week into a cool little brass ingot :) I use wood and a hairdryer though, I don't have the cool tools yet.

A quick question.... Why didn't you skim the dross? It doesn't make sense to pop the primer from every shell that means the dross needs to be skimmed off just before you pour. By removing the slag you save yourself most of the time & energy spent with the angle grinder & in the end, no amount of grinding is going to hide the fact that the block is "dirty" & will require reprocessing.

How warm is that water after quenching the ingot?
@bigstackD
@bigstackD 8 лет назад
Devoted Defender hey Defender the water would be pretty warm on this one but there was a lot of water so not too hot I would think, on my channel wen I quench my ingots sometimes the water boils as I usually only use a small quenching bowl, and there's no way you could reach in with ya bare hands and grab em for quite a while after the ingots placed in there. I melt brass and copper into ingots if that kind of stuff interests ya👍🏻.
@IceDragon978

@Gakulon
@Gakulon 7 лет назад

@kewpxd5503
@kewpxd5503 7 лет назад
Devoted Defender You could use some physics.. Brass's specific heat capacity is 380 J/kg/K, which means that 2.25kg of Brass (approx., 5 pounds) will have to have dropped down from 1173 Kelvin (Melting Point) down to 293 (Ambient, assuming) which means the equation: Q=mc∆T can be applied: Q=2.25*380*(1173-293) Q=2.25*380*880 Q=752,400J of energy lost by the Brass. Now to the water part, if (again, assuming) that there was 12.5kg of water, and we know that 752,400J of energy has been lost by the Brass to the water, we can figure out what the ∆T value (Change in temperature) is, using: Q=mc∆T, Q/∆T=mc, ∆T= Q/mc ∆T=752,000÷(12.5*4200(Specific heat capacity of water)) ∆T=14.3K, which, assuming water is at 20°C, will have increased by 14.3°C, making the water 34 Degrees Celsius hot. Just a bit under your body temperature.. :)

zemaj Lopez They weren't steel casing or else they wouldn't have melted (the melting point of brass is around 1600-1700 while steel is 2500-2700) and they were too shiny to be steel, they were brass with a wash on them and he said that in the beginning (at least he did in the video with music) and he threw in borax before pouring the ingot and borax is a flux.

I plan on reloading ammo. But this would be a good way to get some return for unusable casings and what not

So that's where all the pre 1965 coins went.. Big silver bars out there somewhere. Like the foundry, need to build one. It's just plaster and sand and a burner.

I like tis version better. :) Range brass is nice to have. There's a range up the street from my house. I might try to score some brass there. :) Tanx Bud!

Tito how much time did it took you doing this? Ever think of maybe doing a fast forward time lapse video of something you crafted?

skim the brass before you pour, removes all the slag off the top so the ingot will be more pure

Is it possible to make it smoother? Like without all the holes and stuff? Or is it inevitable?

5 lb of brass scrap equals$7. What was the cost of the gas electricity and labor to make the ingot?
