Oop. I wrote Kathy instead of Karen Strassman. My bad y'all, I lost so much sanity on this one lmfao Anyhow my book is available wherever books are sold📙
I actually kind of like the tritannus rap because of how cursed it is, it reminds me of star wars kinect with galactic dance off where it's just so bat shit insane you can't believe it exists
They look 10x better in this movie than the other ones, as a 3D model creator I can tell you that from someone who knows a thing or two. The quality is 10x better here. Also as far as the story and voices go you are judging the 4kids version and not the NickDub, the NickDub version is much more top quality.
@Will N I personally disliked season 4 for a few reasons, mainly: 1. Roxy felt like a derivitive of Bloom, specifically how the Wizards wanted how powers like the Trix wanted Bloom. It felt repetitive, and her wings confused me if that's her basic form. 2. The Wizards' fate was the same as the Trix's in season 2. Again, derivitive. 3. Visually, Believix felt like a step down from Enchantix, and the requirements for it were super lame. Rather than fixing your insecurities or sacrificing yourself, you have to make someone believe in fairies. Plus it was a group thing rather than individually. 4. The Wizards were more focused on Earth than anything rather than the magical dimension as a whole. It felt boring to me. However, I do agree that when Bloom's arc was concluded after three seasons, they really failed to develop her and the other girls. It would've been nice to see her spend more time in Domino and learn about her family and culture. Going back to Earth after three seasons of magical adventures, while a nice change of pace, gets boring really fast.
@Will N I guess the belief part sounds more...childish, I suppose? It's not as dark as before, and definitely doesn't feel like a season 4 thing---maaybe season 1. I don't read the comics consistently, so I wouldn't know about any content like that. As for Believix, I don't think it's comparable to superheroes, who are definitely NOT designed to be highly fashionable (though I do appreciate the ones who wear more than just tights/leotard/spandex). And I agree that Roxy could've been Native American--the only thing about that is that NA's (and tribal cultures around the world) are often stereotyped into the nature role, so making her the fairy of animals may be a bit too similar, but that's just me. Flora is inspired by Jennifer Lopez, so it's likely that her race corresponds to mestizo and there is some technical NA representation, though since Latin Americans have carved out a distinct identity, I can see why people would say that doesn't count--and again, the nature stereotype would make that bad, anyway. Roxy also could've been of Pacific Island descent.
Bro same. I forgot this movie was a thing until this video was posted. I remember i watched it as a kid and thought it was okay. Boring but okay. Looking back though, i cringe from it being so bad.
Pay attention to the Alfea student models, particularly their eyes, and you'll see that these come from the first two movies. They look very different from the Winx; it's like two art styles combined and it looks so weird!
OMG I saw that too, especially Miss Faragonda and Griselda eyes and character models they have adopted this skinny look they had in the first two movies 🎥
@@keenankulpanapat886it’s just cuz theses student’s already appeared in the first 2 movies and normally the winx would use theses models but they were lazy to re animate and remodel sirenix related stuff
With how often the Trix get double-crossed by whatever villain they're working for, I'm surprised there hasn't been a time where their newest boss tried to throw them under the bus, only for the Trix to be like "We've been double-crossed more times than we can count. Did you really think we didn't consider a backup plan in case this ever happened?"
I find it interesting that the Winx destroy/kill Politea at the end of the movie, since it contradicts with how they supposedly find it morally wrong to kill since season 4. That season's final was all about sparing the Wizards and giving them a fair court blablabla.
So basically that theme that season 4 tried was pointless because in bloom in season 4 was like “vengeance was bad” when in season 3, they wanted vengeance for tecna and try and kill valtor
Even when Bloom realizes revenge is wrong, we don't see the process on how she recovers from Valtor. A great example of learning about pain comes from Legend of Korra. In Season 4, we follow along with Korra as she recovers her trauma with the Red Lotus. She relates to Kuvira with the pain she felt and helped her❤.
@@idontsm0ke true. But you know, I don't think Bloom ever wanted to get revenge on Darkar in the same way she did with Valtor when she learned about her connection to him. Which I find strange given she was told that Darkar is quite literally the catalyst to why the Ancestral witches attacked Domino in the first place.
Let me tell you I was not ready for the first 3 seconds of CGI Tritanus singing and the Trix break dancing. That gave me a massive whiplash. I don't think I can recover. Great video as always, I knew this movie existed let alone weird as hell, but dang after this video I was so wrong.
Re: the "pure of heart" trope: It doesn't always have to mean that they are without flaw or the chosen one. Sometimes it just means that when push comes to shove, that character will always do the right thing. Case in point, the title character of Sailor Moon is declared to be pure-hearted on multiple occasions (displaying limitless hope, a deep belief in the inherent goodness of people, and being generally unjudgmental), but she has many flaws (she can be incredibly childish, self-centered, and undisciplined). So it doesn't necessarily have to be a mark of the chosen one or of a character's moral superiority (though I absolutely agree that this movie uses it in the laziest way possible)
I remember watching this movie with my siblings while we were at the very end of our Winx era and the things I’ll remember most are the kick ass 3d transformation, the moment where they enter oblivion… and that stupid… stupid rap….
@@jhordentasher912 I give some slack to season 4 since they didn’t totally retcon everything. But yeah, I wish that 4Kids hadn’t lost the rights to the show.
i can’t help but feel like the whole Politea stuff was supposed integrated into season 5 proper but they decided to cut it and made it into its own movie for profit lmao
That roasting of Sky’s model is so hilarious, his hair looks like a banana peel to me! Then when I saw the name for his segment I was rolling all over again!
Ikr? It looks so inconsistent with the Alfea students clearly having their former eye design. They also reused the Tritannus army fish monster models in a different context. It's so lazy. :(
Is no one gonna talk about how in season 8, they used the old backgrounds, so while the Winx were in the old artstyle, the posters were in the old artstyle with season 5 clothes
@@I_always_have_been_Daniel49 That was also weird. Maybe it was supposed to be an easter egg but it looks weird in-universe. It would've made more sense to show the Winx in their season 5 outfits but in the new art style.
8:09 Ok, here’s the thing, Thomas. In episode 2 of season 1, Faragonda said that an Alfea student studies up to 5 years of education within Alfea and then they graduate. I don’t know how or why they suddenly were close to graduating in season 3 because if we look at the timeline, each season of Winx is technically one school year. So in a more coherent Winx Club, the Winx shouldn’t graduate until after season 5.
I remember that clearly. But apparently they decided to shorten the main story up to three seasons during the productions of the OG seasons. Seasons 1-3 and the first film were supposed to end the series.
12:37 Admittedly I like the animation from the first two movies. And despite it being a work of its time, the characters at least looked relatively similar to their 2D versions. Not to mention I think the 3D Enchantix models were beautiful.
If you look closely, you'll see that the Alfea students in this movie still use their old models. It looks kinda weird when compared to the Winx as it's basically two different art styles clashing.
@@WILFORDCLUX Dear God you're right. I've never noticed that. 🤯💀 And true it looks weird. they probably did it to cut cost on animation. Also one thing I did notice was that there was a random character that looked like Musa with her S3 hairstyle, except the characters hair is a little bit shorter
I know Roy and Aisha are a thing from season five but wasn’t Nabu a young king? If he was, and he’s also technically not dead then it would’ve been interesting to see the Trix go for him instead. This would of course put the attention towards Aisha and I know what you’re thinking the warrior fairies would crush the Trix, but they have their ways and plot armor surely can be used to their advantage. Maybe, this could’ve even been the movie that revived Nabu so that he would be back in the gang and available for season. I don’t know what would happen with Roy but at least the relationship issues the show always brings up would make sense this time, kinda like Musa with Jason Queen…
More importantly at 35:18, why is it showing three seals instead of two? We all know the Winx destroyed the last seal which led to the excuse of taking Aisha for her Sirenix to act as the third seal so she could be uninvolved in the climax and replaced with Bloom once again.
In season 5 we knew little of Politea, and in the movie we still don't. We could've had a great backstory for Politea and Daphne but no. The writers also ignore that Tritannus had betrayed the Trix/Icy in the season 5 finale. This movie is so lazy. :/
13:15 Actually not in every monarch in the real world you only become king/queen when the parent dies actually. In the Netherlands our old former queen basically "retired" 10 years ago and she's still alive while her son is now king.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's not always the case for the heir to become King/Queen if their parent/s die. Mostly it just retirement while their children take over their place.
35:20 Why does the throne even have THREE seals? The whole point of the end of season 5 was that the Winx destroyed the third one before Tritannus could get it and that’s why he needed to kidnap Aisha to activate the throne Continuity? Who’s she? We don’t know her here
OMG , now that you've mentioned it I can't unsee it. God this movie felt like it continued from magical adventure and secret of the last kingdom than s5.
The 90s Sailor Moon movies gave us action, adventure and a day in the limelight for Tuxedo Mask, Luna and Chibiusa. The first Winx Club movie tried to give us a proper ending, only for the series itself to wind up going beyond its finale. After that, the other two felt like an afterthought. Maybe it's a good thing that I stopped watching Winx Club after Season 4. Also because I refuse to watch the Nick Dub after watching the two "Specials". It just goes to show you why you have dubbing companies such as Viz Media doing anime and other foreign shows.
In "The Shark's Eye" the storyline never made sense since Politea only appear in one episode with no speaking voice and we don't have any background story on Politea except that she was once Daphne's friend and a Sirenix fairy. I would have though in the third Winx Club movie in "The Mystery of the Abyss" that we will finally learn more about Politea's past to why she wanted to betray Daphne in the first place before she too was curse by the ancestral witches but that never happen. To be honest I was hoping that Daphne would appear in this movie since she's free from the curse and she would have been very helpful to the Winx in the Infinite Ocean to rescue Sky and confronted Politea once again with Bloom fighting by her side as she reveal to the Winx that Politea was once her friend and a Sirenix fairy before she betrayed her, that would have made the movie better if Daphne had appeared in the first place.
Agree cus the trailer for the movie, I heard Daphne’s voice in there and I thought she was going to be in there but once I watched it, it was disappointing
Also like Politea would have got a princess Luna arc in MLP friendship is magic where in S1 she became bad to good around ponies and fixing her relationship with her older sis Princess Celistia
They made her a villain to the Winx but didn't do much more than that. I wish they had given us some more backstory. I don't think she even mentioned Daphne in her confrontation with the Winx. Kinda missed potential. :/
Oblivion is a pretty bad prison. I don't meant "it's so terrifiying" by saying this. I mean if any prisoner can just break their cell by doing what Bloom did, then oblivion must be pretty bad at keeping them.
I’m really glad I never went out of my way to actually watch this movie. Watching you watch it 110% more fun way to experience the movie. I want to say that your content is a huge inspiration for me to dive deeper into WINX Club and the deeper themes and why the new era WINX stuff doesn’t hit the same beat. I’m presenting a panel about WINX at an event at the end of may and I appreciate your perspective on this stuff. When I see your videos pop up I can’t click fast enough. I am so excited to read your book! I hope you are taking care of yourself, showing yourself grace and kindness and that you’re enjoying your work. With so much love from me and the rest of us.
oh my god… i’ve watched this movie 3 times and i fell asleep every. single. time. still not sure how it ends haha edit: i just watched the video. sleeping was def worth it lmao
Wait, Politea being released after breaking sirenix curse is actually good idea, it's almost like actions of our bestest Bloom have its consequences. I wish we would have actual conflict between Politea and Daphne. Maybe Politea with her restored freedom would seek revenge on her, maybe by taking away people's powers or by some sort of possession since she's a ghost (seeing one of winx possessed or powerless, like Politea attacking Daphne as Bloom and her being unable to fight back idk). I don't like how rainbow incorporated sirenix into Daphne's story but Politea has way more potential than that whiny fish tbh also I wonder what's going on with rest of the nymphs. Since Thomas already brought up Nerissa, it would be cool to see nymphs like we got to see previous guardians. Maybe they also were friends and Politea got crazy with power, or didn't want to be equal with her friends but superior to them? Maybe some parallel with our overpowered Mary Sue? PS I didn't know that montage of trix and tritunius dancing existed AND I PREFERRED IT THAT WAY WTF IS THAT also I will never get over how disgusting that cgi is jesus christ, the first movie looks fucking gorgeous in comparison and it's so much older-
Actually, a king/queen can abdicate. You don't have to die on the throne to pass it on. The Dutch King's mother is still alive, and she was the Queen before with his father having been a non-Royal and thus given the title of Prince. Though that doesn't makes Winx's writing any less confusing.
I wonder if Nabu had futuresight and he saw how horrible this was, along with everything else that came that season 4, and decided that being flipping dead a is a better than being in this hellscape. He was also spared from terrible writing and whitewashing of fate the Winx saga that’s why they had an entirely new love interest for Aisha in that. Unfortunately he couldn’t save his love Aisha from what would become of the franchise.😢
The idea of the film generally is not so bad, I mean it had more potential than the actual season 5. Politea pulling the strings of everyone - being the puppeteer- is cool. Especially if she brainwashed them somehow. The Oblivion dimension is awesome, however Bloom saving the day - again, the endless Sky drama, the season 6 uniforms and the reused season 5 scenes dim the light a lot. It is also funny, that almost all other characters - especially the background ones - do demon in their olden renderings, while the Winx, the Trix and Tritanus are put into their new ones. 😅 In conclusion, this film could have been better and the story used in S5.
This is what Winx Club has become now......*sighs* In the wise words of Dr. Farnsworth "I don't want to live on this planet anymore" P.S. great commentary 💙
Actually I think their "student uniform" is moreorless kind of their business dress. Possibly they wear it not as a school uniform but more as like how Faragonda had that fancy dress she had the first five seasons
Uh Did anyone not count how many seals were on the emperor's thrown Since I noticed there were 3 seals when remember in season 5 The seal of control was destroyed
I refuse to believe that they had even a completed draft for this and I'm 100% convinced that every line was a first read, or not even read, just a director saying "so-and-so, say this" and so on.
The fact that this movie was released when almost everyone was at the end of their Winx Era is kinda sad though. Instead of releasing a movie that would seal the deal for people in a beautiful way, they released this horrible thing that is probably gonna be the last Winx Film someone was ever gonna watch. I was 11 when this dropped and was literally like wtf when the rap part came. Whenever I feel like having a winx throwback I watch the 2 first movies and completely forget the existence of that one. If they kept the 1st movies artstyle it wouldve been better even though the plotline is shit.
Yeah, I never understood this movie at all when it came out. By the time it came out, it felt like more of a cash grab than being part of the show. Also just a bit of a heads up; apparently your WInx Club Rewrites have their own TV Tropes Page. Just letting you know.
In Germany the title was translated to "the secret of the ocean" - still no idea what the secret's supposed to be, but I think it's better than mystery of the abyss
Think how interesting season 5 would have been if half way through, jellyfish woman attacked Tritanus and the Trix to kidnap Daphne so she can use the throne to beak their shared curse, so now we have a more threatening villain, Tritanus serves a better purpose and in the end, the winx have to deal with two separate villains. It also gives both Bloom and Aisha their own villain and a moment for her to take down her villain whilst Bloom still has the spotlight and the others work on the Trix.
everytime time you were all for Sky dying I couldn't stop laughing it was - well, you were NOT wrong "the plan is to let Sky die....Im in favor of this plan". *WHEEZE* I AGREE! XD
One of the biggest fails of this movie is Sky's presence. Sky was made to be the damsel in distress and this doesn't affect his nor Bloom's character arcs or relationship. It should've been Roy who tagged along since Tritannus turned the king and queen (who he directly serves) into his mutant minions and wants to redeem himself of failing to protect them plus he's no stranger to deep sea diving. He could even be the damsel in distress to further his guilt of being useless. This movie was a clear indication of where the show was headed when it sacrificed suited and underused characters for stale romance.
I know that to finish this movie, one as to set their mind to "Continuity, what is that? A college major", but, at 35:18, if you look at the seals, there are 3. Why in hell are there 3 seals. Didn't they destroy one of them. MAKE. IT. MAKE. SENSE.
Wait Omnia and Politia know each other is it weird that only i think that is Omnia one of the nine nymphs since she knows Politia omg still bitter that Daphne still wasnt even mentioned but Omnia was omg
The fact the background characters use the old movies model I bet they didn’t made the winx use them so they wouldn’t have to remodel and re animate Sirenix stuff
I think this film only exists so Rainbow could keep pushing Sirenix toys (which sold really well in the S5 days because it’s SUPERHERO MERMAID FAIRIES) even after S6
My theory is this was supposed to be the original plot of season 5, and they realised they had some budget left over so they changed a few plot points for it to make some semblance of narrative sense post s5, and made this dumpster fire Edit: they spent more money animating the logo than the actual film
I remember when this movie came out, a lot of the Winx bloggers were saying it was a step in the right direction and I honestly wanted to know what they were all smoking. Although at that time they were happy to have anything other than Season 4
Am I the only one who sees that the "freshman" students are actually models from the first movie? The winx are in the new style but Faragonda, Griselda and the students are still like they were in "The secret of the lost Kingdom"
I tried to watch this movie I got to the scene where Omnia gives in and tells Tritanus about the pearl or whatever and I just couldnt fucking take it anymore 😭 I am so sorry you had to suffer through this-
I forgot this movie existed. I never watched it anyway but the opening seconds are enough for me to decide I am never watching it. Alright, let's see what this is about.
OMG I've been looking forward to getting my hands on that book for the longest time. I finally managed to find it and I'm currently at chapter 9 reading it. absolutely loving it.
@@lee-mm5nr NO NO NO NO the book was great story interesting Elements and everything was just *Chefs kiss* but the reason i don't like the ending AMD that is *SPOILER WARNING*......... the book ends on somone dying multiple Plot Twist it felt Really rushed and worst of all: it. has. no. ENDING. it ends with incomplete knowledge and a lot is unclear you really need to ready the next book (the ones that isnt even out yet) to (hopefully) have the complete story
Ok… but I’m like what happened to the specialists In this movie…. Like you think that they would check on bloom and maybe help in saving sky? Or maybe they want sky dead….. which Everyone in the fandom including myself is fine with it
One thing that doesn’t make sense is that it follow the continuity from the second film. Bloom is proposed and she 18. In this movie the characters have graduated and introducing themselves to freshmen students (they were students again in season 5). But in season 4 they were young adults trying to make sense of the world 🌎. To make matters worse they are wearing their season 6 outfits in a film which revolves around season 5. Daphne should be the star of the show. This timeline is confusing. Have any of you noticed the Specialists being absent for the whole movie 🎥🍿🤔🧐💭💬💬
Not only did they recycle animation but the animation scene before Bloom breaks free from her green cube, was just a really lazy way to animate. I am an animation student, and rendering a white background with the reflection of a character is literally one of the easisest things to animate, this entire movie just screams laziness, it should have never happened.
I was so confused why Politea comes back as a ghost- she didn’t really have much significance other than being a friend of Daphne’s who betrayed her and was turned into a monster, not much there
At 48:42 Tecna uses a shield spell but if u hear the name virtual protection u realise it was the same spell tecna I used in her myhthix form in the zombie pirate episode
Thomas really went “If I’m suffering, you’re suffering with me!” 😂 Congrats on your book! I love how I found your jokes 10x better than whatever this movie is regurgitating. I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates the Wilheim scream (whatever it’s spelled)
another thing is like how the selkies told bloom they'll go with her to the reef of death like the rest weren't right next to them. the bloom adoration is being shoved down my throat and i don't like it.
