We have honeycomb shelves plans so you can easily build this DIY hexagon honeycomb shelves with just a few tools! These honeycomb shelves have been a fairly popular style, but we’ve never seen them made into a proper piece of furniture. The only direction we were given from our client for this project was to incorporate the hexagon shapes into a bookshelf. We wanted the hexagons to be the main appeal of this piece, which is why we went with some subtle tapered legs.

This project was awesome! However, I’m sure there are many people who passed it by just because of how you titled it. This video was titled: “why do people make this so difficult?” I almost passed on this one, because of the title. Tell people what you’re making.

that turned out amazing! i have to figure out a way to join them since i dont have a domino tool. also, do you recommend using pre stain conditioner on 1 by's or 2 by's board purchased from home depot? i normally sand with 120+220 then straight to oil based stain and clear. i make farmhouse or rustic style pieces.
@SpencleyDesignCo
@SpencleyDesignCo 3 года назад
You really don’t need the domino. That’s why I did the test to show how strong it was without them! For that type of piece, having uneven and blotchy stain is pretty common so you probably will be fine without the pre stain conditioner

I wonder how much outward pressure they would take? I am thinking of making these and filling each honeycomb with wine bottles which would have some outward pressure as well as the downward pressure when stacked. Obviously it would be better if it was trapped between two walls but or a outer box type walls built around it but still I wonder about the outward strength. What do you think?
@SpencleyDesignCo
@SpencleyDesignCo 2 года назад
I honestly couldn’t give you any quantifiable answer to that, but I doubt you’d run into any failure. I’d just build a test piece and see if it’s strong enough. I’m sure it will be 😀

I noticed that you applied the conditioner and stain by hand and polyurethane by the paint gun..any reason you didn't use the paint gun for conditioner and staining ?
@SpencleyDesignCo
@SpencleyDesignCo 3 года назад
Good question! To be honest, I don’t know if you can apply the conditioner by hand 🤷‍♂️. I imagine it probably could, but I think this is only the second project I’ve ever used stain for since I always refuse to do it for clients because it’s such a pain. I’m just not well educated on all the methods of application. For the stain though, my entire garage would’ve been painted in brown speckles unless I Dexter-fied everything with plastic tarps. Spraying a clear polyurethane isn’t that big of deal because the tiny spots won’t really be visible on the walls and floors. I hope that helped shed some insight as to what we going through my head 😀

@asoggyburger479
@asoggyburger479 2 года назад
I like the project, just 1 critique. You zero’d the angle gauge on the blade. You’re supposed to zero it in the table and then put it on the blade. I know you got the blade square prior to the first set of cuts. It’s probably a negligible difference but a good habit to zero on the table and then attach to the blade.

Must be a advertisement for that digital level, never use digital levels to square up your table saws blade I know you want to show off your new gadget but use a good old square, for one the garage floor is definitely at a slope and two the table that the table saw sits on isn’t level

Awesome tutorial and production quality, but why the obnoxious clickbait-esque title? This is limiting your visibility for those looking for a video like this based on specific keywords.. but I could be wrong. I noticed this trend among most of your videos. I don't think your key audience is after those social media shockers, but rather quality content to learn from. Just my two cents.

This video is 2 years old. He has a love and passion for the art. Maybe he wanted to walk away because he was leaning more into catering to clients and furthur away from his creativity. Maybe he found a way to do both. Maybe he grew or made some changes to how he does his work. Dont really think we need to imply that this is bullshit in some way
