@@hotstepper887lol chill out Lil bro, he was free from any defenders while kicking the ball, so the long shot can be considered a free kick, bro is out fuming😂😂
Beckham could bend the ball, Carlos shot like a rocket, Cristiano with the knuckleball. Everyone has their own style. But only Juninho could do everything.
Fun fact: Lyon has won the French Ligue 1 seven times, all of the 7 titles came consecutively between 2001-02 to 2007-08, and Juninho was in all of those seasons. The only season in which he didn't win the league was 2008-09.
Juninho has scored 77 free kick goals in 500 games ! Today players like Messi or Ronaldo have like 1000-1200 games and they still can’t reach him ! Pure Master
@@budimulyadi6636our Brasil squad was so stacked in the 2000’s that Juninho was rarely on the starting 11 despite of his insane quality. He only played 3 games in the 2006 World Cup but he scored a goal against Croacia I think. He played in the 2005 Confederations Cup but he was only on the bench against Argentina in the final. He probably should have gotten more chances to play but Brazil squad selection was brutal back then! I’m sure he would gave scored more if he played more!
@Lucaz, yup the Brazilian squad of that era was insane. I bet Brazil wish they had someone like Juninho today. Sad to see the dearth of Brazilian talent today.
I saw him grew up in my school in Recife - Pernambuco - Brazil... There was others great players in his age... starting in football indoor... but they gave up to play... only Juninho kept going... Brazil has a lot of young little guys like him but will never archive something like that. Greating from Brazil
Thing is Juninho was the most devoted hard working freekick specialist, while everyone was doing anything else or nothing at all he practiced freekicks experimenting shots/angles/distances. Freekick with Juninho on your team became a PENALTY..... guaranteed on target high chance goal from ANY distance.... Best FK ever, by far.
Exactly. The genius thing was that even his missed free-kicks were dangerous because of the knuckle-ball, where the ball is unpredictable, so the keeper has no way to punch the ball ''safely'' outside of the reach of opponent strikers. So if any strikers of Lyon were near the goal, it would be an easy rebound.
The balls used now cannot do that anymore. This is back when people tried to make round balls. Now the surface of the ball is detailed not allowing the magnus effect anymore.
In Brazil we use the term Dry Leaf to refer to these incredible kicks when the ball keeps changing trajectory towards the goal. Think of a dry leaf falling from a tree.
The speciality of Juninho freeckicks are the ball just levitates in the air and it doesnt even spin ,its not knuckleball, almost like it ,but its just straight up levitation. I remember watching his matches with my dad and I was so stunned that I would see all his matches and try to act like am scoring the freeckicks.
Unstoppable is not the right word, they didnt win CL. But sure they were rly good team and Real Madrid nightmare. With Juninho the had 3 wins and 3 draws against RM, after he left they had 1 draw and 3 loses. He was great in freekicks but he also was rly good playmaker for Lyon even though he was rly offensive AM. top 3 AM at his prime for sure.
@@FleivaSleivaKeep dreaming young boy. He scored the same goals against the best goalkeepers in the world of his time (Casillas of Real Madrid, Kahn of Bayern Munich and co).
I really appreciate that as great a show of Juninho's technique it is, this video also showcases some top quality goalkeeping. His unmatched style and unpredictability serves as the perfect highlight, forcing the keeper to use every ounce of effort he can muster just to get his fingers on the ball. Glorious
An expert in the art of taking free-kicks. But not only this: Juninho was a fantastic midfielder! I saw him emerge at Sport in 1994 and shine brightly at Vasco and Lyon. Juninho was a real baller! Technically a fantastic player who would adapt to football in any era.
This guy was most definetely a cheat code for any team he played with, superb shooting and free kick skills, truly one of a kind, not even the best of our generation come close to his numbers.
Yeah there is no one that even come close, beating keepers at their near post from 40 yards, the way he could serve the ball different directions in the one strike was just a keepers nightmare.
@@philipduffy6581 Mihajlovic was better, and scored vs better goalkeepers and didnt need modern football that flew all over the place, Juninho made goalkeeper look stupid but Mihajlovic just put it in the top corner every time Juninho doesnt come close but he was a wizard with that kind of football, cant exactly use his technique to cross the ball eh?
@@cattycats4 they literally played in around the same era so how you going to say the goalkeepers and ball where that much different, Juninho manipulated the ball better than anyone. Roberto Carlos could make the ball move but didn't have control over it, literally no footballer came close to Juninho and the range of techniques he could use, the goalkeeper didn't know what was coming they had to take a chance. He scored against Iker Casillas one of the greatest goalkeepers in Real Madrid history from 40 off yards beating him at his near post, it didn't matter who was in goals. And your point about crossing the ball like that was funny, off course you wouldn't cross the ball like that, the forward would never get on the end of the cross, it would confuse everyone, I would have thought that was obvious.
I'm happy to have witnessed a Juninho free kick goal. It was at world cup qualifiers against Bolivia. Brasil was the away team and I only went to the match because Juninho was playing. He scored a magnificent goal. I was so happy! I just watched the best free kick specialist in the world. It was surreal.
An absolute maestro when it comes to free kicks. Glad I have watched him so many times. OL had a beautiful team back then. Mad respect for Juninho Pernambucano🎉🔥
It's wild watching today's players and seeing how few of them come close to the kind of technique players like Juninho had. Beckham, Juninho, Ronaldinho, Gerrard, Scholes, Pirlo, Xabi Alonso, Seedorf - even in their Legends games played in their 40s, their passing and free kicks are still something else.
@@smith549371 no from sheer techniques n he has 77 freekicks goals in 500 gms he is the alltime leader then pele 70 with like 1000gms ..dude is the GOAT freekick taker
1:22 I like how they updated the scoreboard even before he kicked the ball lmao that already shows how they were certain that he wouldn't miss it what a legend defenelly a GOAT
I dont want to be that guy but the clip is cut off and a clip of his replay is shown. Look at the time. It fast forwards like 40 seconds to a replay of his free kick
This is my favorite Brazilian player back in 2007 to 2010, I used to follow Lyon just because of him, also used to play FIFA 2008 using Lyon and used to destroy the competition
It's so hard, precise, and to top it of, the ball get this insane wobble... So you can't really blame the keepers, to have a look like ''wtf can I do?''. It's just insane what he did!
It's amazing how, when you see those clips at regular speed, all keepers seem crappy amateurs. Then you see every clip again at slow motion, and finally you can understand how magic the ball seems and the keeper has no fault. The effect he gives to the ball truly is unbelivable.
Beckham and Roberto Carlos were excellent, JWP is arguably the best free kick specialist in world football today, but Juninho was in a class by himself. Once his team crossed the halfway line, Juninho was in range. But from 30 yards or less, it was almost as automatic as an Alan Shearer penalty. The GOAT of free kicks.
