you may not know this, but there is an after credits scene where Shifu and Po are eating dumplings. Shifu shares his dumplings with Po!

To me, another interpretation of Tai Lung exclaiming "It's nothing!" when seeing into the dragon scroll and showing his reflection, it's like the movie was suggesting that due to Tai Lung's past and upbringing, he had his whole sense of identity wrapped around being the Dragon Warrior, so much so that he thought if he couldn't be the Dragon Warrior, then he was nobody, a "nothing."

The entire shifu vs po for the dumpling and him saying "I'm not hungry" thing isn't just about being upset. Shifu had said "when you have been trained, you may eat" and by saying "You are free to eat" he said "You have been trained", following that with their standoff. "Have I been trained?" "HAVE YOU?!" and with "I'm not hungry" po also acknowledges that he's not at the end of the road yet. He's not done training.

I first saw this in theaters when I was 13. I remember crying a bit when Master Oogway passed. The music and his acceptance of death really hit me at the time. He's a great mentor with a lot of wisdom that we can apply in our everyday life.

Hans Zimmer did a great job on the score! (and yes, that's "The Lion King" composer Hans Zimmer I'm talking about. He did the score for Kung Fu Panda) and I don't know if you know this but Jackie Chann is Monkey, Seth Rogen is Mantis, Angelina Jolie is Tigress, and Dustin Hoffman is Shifu! They really went all out with the voice cast!

This is why Kung Fu Panda always and will be my favourite kung fu animated movie ever 🥰 And since 2014 to now 2021 I’m still training in Tai Chi Academy and training the students 🥰🥰

I like what you said about narration, i always thought the same about this movie, po narrating fits his character bc he envisions himself as a main character of a story, and to him, cool main characters have a narrator speaking on their behalf

This movie taught me how to use chopsticks with the bonus content in the dvd for it lol Edit: there's also a really interesting parallel between Tai Lung and Po, they were both adopted and raised solely for one thing which are kind of opposites in a way but both dreamed of the same end goal except Tai Lung kinda had that dream forced onto him and Po was really passionate about it and it just makes Tai Lung's whole story so much more sad

Hey, Angie! I love this movie too! Fun fact: at my school, we had cupcakes with frosting on them looking like Chinese noodles. Another thing: Tai Lung made his escape seem effortless because he's a snow leopard. Snow leopards are quite agile and can navigate sheer cliffs with relative ease in their mountainous homes (The guards didn't really think this one through lol). Sadly, they're endangered due to climate change. In fact, I think most of the Furious Five are based on endangered species! Something I noticed as I got older with Kung fu panda is that it kind of parodies old karate movies, while not as much as shrek does, it is part of the humor and the best part is that it isn’t forced or unnecessary, like in most old Karate movies, the old master will die after fighting his former student. It’s almost like po has seen these movie and things shifu is dying but he’s just taking a nap. Also I find it hilarious how his name is master shifu, which literally means master master, or ot could also mean master father

A few cool things I wanna point out: The point of the dragon scroll is to show that the dragon warrior isn’t about any powers, it’s just about who you are as a person. Po handles this revelation well, saying ‘it’s blank!’ when he sees himself, but Tai Lung says ‘it’s nothing!’ when he sees himself because he believes that without the power of the dragon warrior, he is nothing. ‘You are free to eat’ is a callback to Shifu saying ‘when you are trained, you may eat’. In the fight, Shifu is testing whether Po has been trained, and thus whether he can eat the dumpling. Po’s ‘I’m not hungry’ line isn’t just because he’s not upset, it’s also because Po has decided that he wants to do more training. Po really did figure out the Wuxi Finger Hold… as in, he invented it. At first it was just a fear tool used by masters to keep their students in line, but Po didn’t know that, so he accidentally invented the technique because he thought it must be possible ‘because it’s already been done’. Some of the things the Po vs Tai Lung fight calls back to: Stairs (Po’s entrance) ‘What’re you gonna do, big guy? Sit on me?’ (Po sits on him) Po getting kicked down the Jade Palace stairs when he refuses to quit (bouncing down the stairs, Po is unharmed) Po trying to see the dragon warrior (the tree flick and the fireworks cart) Chopsticks (bamboo poles - Tai Lung brute forces it and gets punished, while Po followed the lesson and learned from it) Po’s food-based acrobats (cookie vision) ‘It’s blank!’ (‘It’s nothing!’) ‘There is no secret ingredient’ Oogway’s nerve technique (Tai Lung copied his move) Acupuncture (Po’s nerves are hard to hit) The level zero training dummy (Po bounces back to counterattack in the same way) Big fat panda (from throughout the movie) Wuxi Finger Hold

It's been noted that Oogway brought Shifu into the candle hall as a test, that if he could be patient then he would avoid tragedy. He waited until Shifu showed that he was too impatient to wait, then delivered the bad news he foresaw as a result

How I interpreted how Shifu taught Tai Lung in comparison to how he taught Po is mainly the difference in putting your expectations on someone versus believing in someone. Tai Lung did everything that Shifu taught him and exceeded those expectations. And Tai Lung expected to be rewarded with the Dragon Scroll and Shifu's pride by doing so. And when Tai Lung didn't get what he wanted, he snapped. Wheras with Po. Po already didn't like himself, and when Shifu tried putting his expectations on Po, it didn't work. But when Shifu believed in Po, Po exceeded his own expectations and believed in himself. Making him far better than he can ever imagine.

My favorite part of Kung Fu Panda, Shifu is actually a panda as well. Also, Po and Tai Lung are so close all the way through, from loving Legendary Battles to striving for the title of Dragon Warrior.

I feel like its because of this movie that I've been a fan of Chinese culture and mythology since I was a child it's just such a good movie I love the kung fu panda series so much it's like my favorite thing that Dreamworks has made next to how to train your dragon also, great commentary ange if we could I would definitely love to just chat with you about this franchise

On the one hand, I'm pretty sure that "Funyuns" don't have any naturally occurring ingredients in them. I'm pretty sure that you'll get better nutrition if you just eat the foil bag... But then again, I REALLY LOVE Funyuns!

I can relate to Po when it comes to being yourself and wanting to follow your own goals but also not wanting to displease your parents.

I watched this movie with commentary and all the behind the scenes so many times, because as much as I love the movie itself, when I find a movie I love too much I end up loving the Behind the Scenes more! Like how they made all the sound effects is crazy!!! Also, I love when Shifu’s ears flatten, it is so cute! My Boi!

A long time ago a fantasy/martial arts movie came out called Circle of Iron. At the end the protagonist was given a book that was supposed to the greatest fighting style, but when he opened it all it every page as just a mirror.

Randall duck Kim steals the show. And let’s be honest, everything out of his mouth is pure gold.

The only reason they killed Tai Lung instead of giving him a redemption arc is because he’s too OP and would have bodied the other villains SO fast. Fun Fact: the series’ villains and their color schemes also coordinate with the aspects Po learns to master in each movie: Tai Lung is the Body, represented by the color blue; Shen is the Mind, and the color red, and Kai is the Soul, the color green.

12:16 Master Oogway *also* said, "One often meets their destiny on the path he takes to prevent it." - It was sending the messenger to the prison which gave Tai Lung the means to escape it, the feather. So, by causality, Master Shifu released Tai Lung by trying to make sure he wouldn't escape.

There's something so satisfying about watching someone watch Kung Fu Panda who knows it almost as well as I do... almost.
