Chosing not to have kids shouldn’t be questioned by anyone. It’s awful that people have to explain their reasoning to family/neghbours/collegues. Having kids is not for everyone. It can be amazing though. My daughter is only 14 months old and my partner is as involved as me. Also Germany basically pays you to have kids. So I guess I’m pretty lucky. She is the most amazing person and I’m so excited for who she is going to be. So just fills my life with love and happiness.

i already barely stand around children let alone a special need kids, i never plan to have a child anyway but i cannot imagine if my child have a disability im already having a hardtime taking care of my self both mentaly and financially i honestly have so much respect for that reddit parent that has an autistic child i dont know what i would do in that situation

Most people who have kids should never have had children in the first place. And wanting kids and your reasoning is very important. I would LOVE to have kids, selfishly, but looking around me at the state of the world: I will not bring a child into this life unless I can promise them happiness, safety and a LIFE worth living.

@@ninsanitiii nah they’re right. If most people were meant to be parents the world would look very different. At the very least, people should take parenting classes and get into counseling first. But everyone acts like it’s intuitive. It might not sound nice but neither is having kids you aren’t prepared to raise. It’s better to be honest when it comes to something this serious.

“I choose my freedom and my cats” hey that's me!! I'm 41, woman, from Italy. I'm happy with my choice to be childfree (the best choice of my life) but i don't "hate" children... I wish everyone could achieve enough self-awareness to clearly understand if parenthood is really their dream.

childcare and taking care of kids is now a luxury. kids are now dressing and getting adult items, iphones, hermes bags, beats headphones, 4wheelers. it is expensive. grandparents arent home anymore

but that is not the way it needs to be though. Our children have none of these things and they are happy and healthy. If you (not you personally, but a hypothetical you) decide to spoil your children beyond recognition, then that is your bad decision as an irresponsible parent and has nothing to do with the inherent cost of children.

As someone whos 29 weeks pregnant, its been amazing, and a wonderful pregnancy. I hardly had any morning sickness in the first trimester, i dont have the line on my belly caused by horomones, and i am happy and busy preparing to bring a life into this wonderful world. Too many people focus on the negative, if youre reading this, let this be a positive sign that having children is not so bad or scary. i also plan on having a natural labor with no epidural. Birthing positions and breathing techniques really help as opposed to focusing on the pain and just stressing out. I'm also only 22 doing this.

People seem to forget the high risks of older women giving birth , complications in giving birth, a child born with disabilities etc, or a parent dying when a child is born, A Parent or mother being depressed after giving birth, genetic disorders etc....plus the movies make child birth easy because their selling something 😅...my Parents dont pressure me and my siblings to be in relationships, marriage or have children. Why because they have seen how unpleasant it is to have children that are unplanned and they have witnessed it in their homes, colleagues etc. My parents pressure us in knowing God, being responsible and respectful adults.

I'm sorry, the financial struggle for someone living in France or Europe in general is not the same as in Africa. So no, everbody around the globe is not facing the same challenges. It's a ludicrous thing to say. Also money ALONE doesn't explain birthrates in particular countries. And finally, countries have good reasons to freak out over low birthrates because less babies = less people = less workers = poorer economic outcomes and less development.

I think too many people are pushing that financial argument to the front when explaining why they don´t want kids. Of course it is a valid choice not to want children, however our grandparents managed to raise 7 kids in a tiny home (the girls and boys each shared a room), so the childless people claiming it´s for financial reasons is just an excuse in my opinion. Even worse if they claim it´s because of their concerns with overpopulation or climate change (I can recommend the "birth gap" documentary, it does a good job debunking those myths). So in the end I would say having kids or not having kids are both very personal and egoistic choices and we should accept that as it is. I´m only annoyed if someone tries to make excuses for this egoistical choice or tries to somehow paint his/her choice as more virtuous.

Back in your grandparents day, you could support a family of 4 on $40k salary. That’s not the case anymore. And as a human who values quality of life, no way I’d want to raise a bunch of kids in a tiny house. For their sake and mine.

@@ritchieashley8843can't speak for the original commentor, but as someone who is 29 weeks pregnant and plans on breastfeeding and getting 0 sleep, yes. It's selfless having a child, I plan on loving my child for who they are and not how they make me feel. It's not about me anymore and it's a great feeling. A lot of people have an inverted idea that having a child is 'selfish'. There are selfish people out there having children but not everyone wants a child so they either have someone to take care of them when they are old, or to take care of the parents emotionally when the child is young. Some people are having children for the same reasons people have always had children. It is a biological calling and I hope to raise a great person. I don't agree that people who have children are selfish, and all it takes is preparing for a child and being a parent to show that.
