For rainwater I saw something interesting. If you have a good sized bucket put it out when the rain starts. Over the bucket place an upside down umbrella. You're gonna lose the umbrella because in the very top you make a cut. The opened umbrella gives a wider space to collect water that drains into the bucket. To keep it steady put a couple of rocks or a small brick, cleaned of course.

Do you have a way to transport that water the two miles ? If power is out, no gasoline. Was thinking maybe a battery operated golf cart with solar panels to charge it. Just thinking out loud. 😁

I have lots of bottle water stored, water straws, a berkey, water purification tablets, 2 55 gallon water barrels, Clorox, Sodium Hypochlorite, water containers. My family will not help me with anything except that they all have bottled water. My sister lives 7 blocks from me and has a built in pool, we have a large river about 3/4 of a mile away! God help us all!

I find the best water container is the clear round 5 gallon you get from Walmart. They don’t leak and have no seams. Really easy and simple for me. Just store out of light for long term.

For storage of cleaning water, use cat litter containers. Handy and plentiful if you have enough cats as I have!

With containers that have a plastic valve , if it gets sticky just pull valve apart out and put a little bit of Vaseline on it. Works wonders.

I bought an ECOFLOW River 3 today because of one of your recent videos. I like the way you put out information and the detail you provide. Thank You! I have stored water, plus an ITEHIL RO filtering system and a countertop STOKK RO filtering system I can run using my off grid solar battery bank system. I also have a Purewell brand Berkey style filtering system. My solar battery bank is a 4Kv system with 800 watts of solar to recharge it. I also use it to run my pellet stove in the winter when power is out.

If you are filling containers from a river, if you put the container in with the opening facing away from the river flow and only just in the water if the river or stream is calm, you'll pick up so much less junk in your water. Prolong your filters

if you can afford it,level up to canned water. It costs more up front but it lasts up to 25-50 years, meaning you do not need to rotate as often

I'm always amazed at how easy it is to collect and store water, And it comes from the sky for free. Every disaster you see people running around looking for water like its the rarest commodity on earth. ( it is if you don't have any) Unfortunately the people who watch these videos are prepared for the most part. Funny I still like to watch all of the Prepper channels. I wish ( maybe they are ) more unprepared people would watch.

Question for anyone who can help. If you are storing store bought water in large crystal clear style containers for many years (I know it's not recommended to drink past 6 months) can you just run that water through a Berkey and be all good or would that water be considered unsafe still?

Why not just dump it all, start over with filtered tap water?

I would not trust a Berkey 🙂 Look for a purifier (like the Grayl in the video) as they remove everything

I think they’d be fine as long as the temperature down there stays cool. I wouldn’t drink them if they were stored that long sitting directly on concrete though. Chemicals can leach through the plastic.
