So pretty much be prepared for teams that have stellar front offices like the Spurs and Thunder since even before the new CBA they've always managed to make ridiculously smart moves whilst super teams were being formed left and right

Exactly. Every franchise that knows how to develop their young players are about to rise up. The Lakers will be forced to fall in line.

the spurs drafted David Robinson at no1 and Tim Duncan at No1. Without either, they win zero chips in that era, most likely. Did they make a good move getting Manu? Sure. Tony? Sure. But most teams did a hand full of good acquisations over time. But they didnt get lucky enough to draft top10 of all times players at no1.

Nba stars got so entitled that it's got the fans siding with billionaire owners. Obviously NBA players will always be making a sh*t ton of money, but the younger guys got their cash flow messed up because of it too Crazy how hard they fumbled. I feel like AD/James Harden and Ben Simmons truly were the straw that broke the cammels back Edit: also Kawhi. Man I wish I could do what he does at my job. I think this is a perfect medium. Player empowerment is something needed in this league. However, it has been left unchecked for years. This doesn’t stop players from walking out on a weak front office, but adds the needed risk and consequence. Teams aren’t going to be able to capitalize on a upset superstar like AD or Harden anymore. Free agency is the only way for for teams to pick these types of players up. Made much more difficult by the fact these players will have dozens of teams trying to pick them up rather than only a handful of teams. I can see the Grizzlies being a team to win a championship very soon. They are built fairly similar to the Nuggets and their top talents are all young home grown players.
@flibbidyx2
@flibbidyx2 11 месяцев назад
Honestly, I think it will result in smaller contracts for role players, which is probably the right way to go anyway. Teams are going to much more likely to let a mid-tier guy go if it helps them afford to keep their stars. And while I do think role players are important, they do get overpaid quite a bit sometimes. The true superstars are the ones selling tickets, they deserve to get paid. A mid-tier guy might be valuable on the court, but not as many people are coming to the games looking forward to seeing them play.
@RhinoGore38
@RhinoGore38 11 месяцев назад
I think it depends on what type of role players, I think players like Austin Reaves and Brook Lopez will have their salaries decreased from 25 mil +, which I am a fan of, but I think role players who were only making minimum money will increase in salary because it wont be like $150 million making up the contracts of 4 players

What the new CBA does is force the front office of all teams to be strategic and sign players to their actual value vs what's been going on lately where some very average players get crazy contracts. Look at Tyrese Haliburton. He's played 191 out of 410 games. 17 ppg and 8 assists per game. Pretty good but max contract good? NO. He misses a lot of games and he's a 2nd tier player. The only season he's played over 60 games he averaged 15 and 8. Which is still good. But that's more likely to be his sustained production and no GM should be giving that 52 million per season. Think about it, he had one good season, a season where he played 55 games, averaged 20 and 10, and he got 50 million per over 5 yrs. That's insane. There are really only 15-20 guys in the league who are true star players who can change if a team can compete for a title. Take the Warriors. That's Steph's team and always has been. Klay and Dray are very good but not star players. The reason they won is they fit together so well and added other solid pieces is around them. The new CBA means a guy like Steph should be paid like the superstar player he is while Dray and Klay get paid like the 2nd tier players they are.
@jackfoudray
@jackfoudray Месяц назад
@@roboninja3194 Geez. This was a misread from you haha. Tyrese jumped very high in production this season and played nearly 85% of the regular season, leading the Pacers to the 6th seed. He had an unfortunate injury that led him to miss some games and a pretty awful cold streak following All-Star break. Other than that, he had an excellent season, leading the league in assists on great efficiency (60% TS%). Tyrese is a bonified star and on a team like the Pacers, locking him up with a deserved contract was an amazing move by the front office. Klay and Draymond are definitely no longer stars. I'm not sure if you're saying they never were or they aren't anymore, but from 2015-2019 (and probably 2022), they were definitely all-stars, not just good role players for the team lol. At this point though, yes, they should not be getting paid like bonified all-stars. However, the new CBA makes it tough, because guys like Klay and Draymond aren't just getting paid their money because of their production, they're also getting paid because of the intangibles they bring to the team (still probably more than they should).

I think that the new CBA rules will change the league to more interesting and competitive teams. Some criticize that drafted players can't resign when they getting better. But this thing will have all teams. So skilled players will spread all over the league. Probably the salaries will decrease. This CBA is having a huge impact already... Didn't know the second apron had draft implications too. That is harsh. Another level to this layer cake. It is going to be wild. There are clearly sellers and buyers right now, but once this CBA is closer to implementation, the buyers will be less inclined to do so. This will hurt the rotation players the most. They will be seeing less money and shorter contracts as you cannot have a lot of money tied down to players that are injured often. Since you won't be able to be opportunistic with the second apron. I don't know if teams with lots of young talent are going to be benefitting from this either. At some point you will have to pay them too...

Then JDub was All Rookie 1st team also a finalist for ROTY, Giddey made a huge leap in improving he was previous All Rookie 2nd team in 2021 plus they'll be getting back Chet this upcoming season who will give wemby a run for his money in winning that ROTY because we know how talented he is on both sides. They got an loaded amount of young assets to even a war chest of draft capital, OKC could basically trade for any disgruntled star/superstar they want or the Thunder could be patient and wait out how the rapid growth & development of the roster shapes into with the young core and deep depth in of role players they got on that bench the sky is really the limit for them. Only time will tell when that comes together cuz they've added another defensive stopper whose a combo guard in Wallace along with Lu Dort their main lockdown defender that trio of Cason, Holmgren and Dorture Chamber will cause a lot of havoc defensively. Wont super teams still be very possible? Like if a team drafts many amazing talents and later on becomes a super team but with the salarys under the limit?

I want to see a commish who will drop the hammer of justice on the players: non guranteed contracts. But from one hand, it wont be fair to non star players, who are indeed working for their money, unlees the genuine hurt. But from the other hand it will prevent future players being slacking after they got paid.

Better start pushing and the family 1st mindset and the teams need to try and convince their stars to take less money by convincing them they are part of something that is very close to being very special. If they want the money they will be going to weaker teams willing to overpay in an attempt to buy a title while the true for the love of the game guys take less keep the stars together while leaving enough money to sure up any weaknesses. If 1 team gets 3 or 4 star players that are willing to take way less money to be part of a Dynasty they will be hard to beat with 1 or at best 2 star teams. It's money vs legacy in the new CBA.

The super-team era was ridiculous, won't be sad to see it go. There's not one superteam I was really happy to see win a chip. Maybe KG's Celtics but that was only because even as a superteam they were still underdogs to Kobe and Shaq's Lakers. Even for GSW, their first and last chips both pack way more of a punch in fans' eyes than the ones with KD (even amongst Dub fans). Going back to having to actually build a team over time has to come back and ridiculous contracts to players without any receipts needs to end, like NOW.

The only way to really stop forming Superteams is by having a HARD CAP. Even with these new changes, the richer teams like the Lakers, Clippers, Warriors and Nets will find new ways to bypass those rules and Superteams will live to fight another day. But it's not like the hard cap is perfect either - in the NHL we see how teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning and Vegas Golden Knights abuse the LTIR (a.k.a. Injured Reserve) system to stay competitive in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Don't know much about how the NFL salary cap works, but it is hard cap for sure and it did its purpose to prevent the Dallas Cowboys run away scot-free in the 90's

I have a feeling that players will retaliate by taking gigantic paycuts… if there’s enough players willing to take massive paycuts just to win a ring, then we could have a super duper team at some point (probably won’t happen but I have a hunch some players are crazy enough to do this)
@RS-ol8or
@RS-ol8or 11 месяцев назад
I disagree. For every Joker who might in his later years be willing to take a pay cut, there are scores of other stars who would never take a cut. These guys have massive egos. Yeah, they talk about wanting to win, but that’s not where the rubber meets the road.

As a T-Wolves and Edwards fan. I don't think he'll go anywhere as long as Minnesota continues to put a contender around him. He's very humble, while extremely confident. His favorite color is blue, and the T-Wolves have different variations of it in their uniforms. Lastly, I think he wants to bring Minnesota its first title, and he doesn't want to build a legacy under the shadows of franchises littered with legends.

It's obvious that the passing of the torch has been happening over the last few years. The veterans that've defined the narrative for the last 10+ years are all past their primes. If Curry, Lebron, Kawhi, etc. win another chip it's because they're the 3rd option at best like Miami Shaq.

About the teams figuring out the new CBA... The Nuggets are in a good position on this but MPJ's contract is too expensive. What I think would happen, It would be a change on salaries offered by the teams to players. They will not pay 30M for a 3rd option, for the MPJ's, Herro's, Klay's. I think that a change on the Max and Super-Max is VERY necessary, or teams will be punished for drafting well and their guys being eligible for it. For instance, Jaylen Brown. He's eligible to take almost half of the cap space because he was an All-NBA... Then Tatum will be soon eligible because he is a All NBA... The Supermax should be AT MOST a third of the salary-cap, ideally a bit less. My question is, how does the Bird Rights rule affects the new CBA? They are allowed to Pass the cap to pay the players they developed and not suffer the consequences of it.

Denver fan here, and I agree MPJ’s contract isn’t friendly in most regards. For one, he’s too inconsistent on offense & doesn’t play D unless he’s motivated. But future wise, his contract won’t be friendly for this new CBA. I’ve been positing that Denver should trade him now for a lesser contract while the getting is good, but fans rake me over the coals for saying this.
@napalmpudding

The new CBA is great for the teams. There has been alot of players just trying to 'secure the bag', instead of signing more team friendly contracts simply because the league rules were built for players to do precisely that, but now i think we are going to see players who want to win take paycuts because it is now necessary. Guys like Gianiss, Luka, and Jokic come to mind as guys who would take paycuts for more quality teammates. As for American players that would do that, anyone other than Jimmy Butler would surprise me if they did. At least, none of the other superstar American players, I should say.

In your comparison of Suns vs Nuggets roster, you forgot Chris Paul. Jamal Murray and Porter make about the same as Booker and Ayton. Jokic makes 10M less than Durant, but they will be similar next year when Jokic's new contract kicks in.
