Maybe in the last 4 decades hip-hop has been in the forefront of pop culture...one or two Latino artist from up north crossed some lines... Go listen again. They weren't saying southerners were copying them in regards to music but the style period. BFD said Northerners got fades (hair cuts) southerners never did, now they do. The style of rap Southerners use emulates the style of Northerners. A few southern rappers said they listen to Northerners music. If you were to look at the analytics of most Northern rappers L.A. is always top 5 city's that stream Northerners music. Ask any popping Northern artist.
