Welcome To Rivers Inlet in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.
Good hope cannery is our home and work place for the spring and summer months. It's started as a cannery in 1895 and is one of few authentic 19th century canneries still in existence. Once ice was readily available, the need for canning the salmon became obsolete as the salmon could now be shipped to Vancouver where it was far less expensive to process the fish. Later on this cannery became a sport fishing lodge, and is now a private home/wilderness lodge.

This episode of Lodge Lie you will be join Christian and I as we give you a tour of our water and power system.
We pull our water from the river next to us that flows down from Sandell Lake. It's pumped up to the sand filter and holding tanks which hold over 3000 gallons between the two. It goes through multiple filtration systems before filling our glasses.
Our power comes from 1 of 3 Cummins generators that get switched over depending on how many people are at the lodge or if oil changes or maintenance need to be done.
And so many other little things happening in in around the kitchen all the time.
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing and reaching out to let me know what you thought of the video. If you have any questions, please throw them into the comments below and answer them all!
Take care until next time!

OMG. Thx, Thx,. A video I've been dying to see! I love Quality equipment that is maintained. You guys are doing an amazing job Of maintaining And upgrading the equipment and the lodge. It takes really special people to appreciate the quality equipment and ability to take care of it so well. I've seen many generator sheds, they're never like yours. Yours looks like a hospital operating room Congrats to all involved.

What a great walk through. The systems employed are surprisingly high quality. I didn't know what to expect. The money to set up must have been substantial. I always find it fascinating how much supply chain is needed to run remote operations. Very cool. Again, great video.

The infrastructure needed to run the Cannery, plus all the maintenance and staff must be a substantial investment. When you walk through the Cannery, it’s size is impressive. I am always looking for RU-vid channels that are Canadian, and yours popped up a few weeks ago. I am not disappointed. Thanks again for sharing, once I start watching I can’t stop 👍

Hi Jenny, thanks for the tour behind the scenes....really appreciated it, as a hunter and outdoors man, I wonder if you could let me know the type of rifle, and calibre of bullet carried in Grizzly Country, ie 30-06 or heavier, and what your Policy is, shoot on sight, depends etc. We deal with Black Bear alot but can scare them off with alot of yelling and banging...but they get more desperate for food in mid summer, and you have to be careful...but a big difference between Black Bear and Grizzlies. Thank you
@jenny_adrift
@jenny_adrift 2 месяца назад
Thank you for asking, although I don’t know everything about the guns that we use. I do know that the shotgun is loaded with two rubber bullets before an actual shell. We do not want to kill these beautiful grizzly bears. We just need to protect ourselves. We are always very careful with not attracting bears to us and so far we have never had a problem . The dogs also let us know when a bear is nearby. The cannery and we keep all the cannery doors closed so that it’s not wandering around inside. We are very bare aware up here. Thanks again I’m glad to see you’re enjoying the videos.

Love your posts! Having boated the coast for years, the memories come back every time I see your post. Most memorable was a open fire salmon cook out just outside Fury Cove on a sand beach, green water, just like Hawaii. Wish our salmon was as professionally prepared as one of you previous videos. Maybe give us insight into the garbage disposal process in one of your videos. Have a great summer!!

Just a short distance from you. Fury Island, just off Fitz Hugh sound ,opposite south tip of Calvert island. Probably 20 minutes from you. Look at a google satellite image and you’ll see just outside the sheltered bay, a little cutback with white sand and green water on the outside of Fury Island. Guarantee if yo do a quick trip over there and start up the GoPro, you’ll have the best forever memory, provided it is sunny and sun is setting. Take a bathing suit, a friend,a salmon , the dogs, you’ll never regret the moment!! Phil MV OPUS

Very interesting tour of your water and power supply. 👍 Not many places where you have to take "the magic stick" (as you call it ) when you leave the property. The whole system looks very efficient. Would solar be an option to lessen the dependence on diseal, or is the cost of a system too much for the sun ☀️ that you receive?? Good Hope is located on that inlet that faces north west so little sun would get to any panels. I guess I just answered my own question. Keep the videos coming. Were those elephant ears you were making?? 😋

The water and power system up here are pretty amazing! I think you did answer your own question, we don’t get a lot of sunshine up here. That was fry bread we were making in this video. It’s similar to bannock. We got the recipe from 2 First Nations ladies that worked up here years ago (mother and daughter) and I would love to share it on another video but they were reluctant to share the recipe at all so I feel I should keep it a secret.. which isn’t something I usually do. Maybe I could reach out to them and ask them if I could share it because it is very tasty!

Just a curiosity That road you see where the generator shack is is that road do anywhere or just a dead end for going back to building to building and does the fuel get pumped up from the Dock to the tanks very cool video I really love scene kind of stuff like that and how these places are self-sufficient power and heating and the water pretty cool job maybe one year I’ll find something like this to do
@jenny_adrift
@jenny_adrift Месяц назад
Yes, the fuel gets pumped up from the fuel dock to the tanks up above. The road splits one of them leads to our burn pile and the other one is a dead end where they’re used to be houses back in the cannery days. It ends at the creek.

@jenny_adrift 2 месяца назад
Hi Nick! Thank you so much! It definitely is a full time job. This lodge is privately run now so it’s far from abandoned. The owner spends his summers here with his 3 Newfoundland dogs and has us staff running it. He invites friends and family up that we take care of in July, August and September. It is a very interesting place. I will try to make a video explaining it better because I e have other people emailing looking to spend a week here when it is no longer a commercial lodge. There are other lodges nearby that are really great, like Duncanby. I hope that clarifies things. Thanks for your comment and thank you so much for watching my videos!
