That's a major blow out of components, any idea what may have caused it? In a day and age where so much is replaced than repaired it's nice to see someone literally breathing new life into electronic repairs, Thank You Nick.

Great timing for this! I have a dead P.O.S. VIZIO power supply board and the "CPU" board is also DOA out a newer 50" 4k TV. I've replaced both boards with used ones from Shop Jimmy's, but the used I installed failed. Luckily the original power supply board was fine when I pulled a year ago. Now this unit is working for me again. Who knows for how long? VIZIO has become piss poor in the past decade. Maybe they have been bottom of the barrel all along. Nick, thanks for all of your repair videos!

Fun Fact for what it's worth, Mil-Spec calls for cutting leads first then solder. love the repair, oh also love the discharge!
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 21 день назад
Hello, I am very interested in this. I assume it has to do with the bond getting weaker from the cut of the lead post soldering. Do they have documentation explaining this in an overly nerdy way by anychance? Do you y anychance have a link where I can find out more about this?
@SolderBrothers
@SolderBrothers 21 день назад
@@NicksTVRepair Hi Nick, overly nerdy here too. From what I remember, it had to do with the cut end being exposed and can tarnish, also the interface between the solder and wire being exposed. Stand by I will dig through some documents to see if I can find this. It is Mil-Spec and they cover every scenario after all, tax dollars and all.

@@NicksTVRepair Avionics is even more full on! No touching component legs/leads at all with your skin. The acids and oils on your fingertips will interfere with the solder flowing in the joint. Also a component leg bender must be used to achieve the correct (bent) leg length without chance of damaging the component seal (between the leg and the package)

Oh okay I see. Yeah that would be awesome. I know it's B grade electronics that we deal with here with the TV repair channel, but we also do fix vehicle circuit boards here and there, as well as some construction equipment on our nickselectronics repair channel. So the more knowledge I get on how to do things the right way, the better! Thank you for spending the time to dig up that stuff, I really appreciate it.
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 21 день назад
Haha holy moly that's intense! I mean for avionics I totally get it. No room for error there. Obviously it doesn't matter as much for TV circuit boards but that is a very fun fact. I guess I should probably wear the gloves more often when handling the electronics then.

@@NicksTVRepair Hey Nick I found a Samsung LE32C530F1W which I want to use for video art projects. It won't recognize input, though my macbook detects the display (only on one port of the TV though) The menu and Source buttons are not responsive. The screen is good though, and does display a warning - 'No input detected' I will take it apart and reseat the internal connectors first off. Just wondering if you had any pointers / experience with this fault/model combo. I could find nothing helpful online except check source and cables. Thanks for any insight - no worries if you don't have time for this, I'll give it a go myself anyway. Regards, R
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 10 дней назад
Well it's a mainboard failure for sure. If you can't bring up the menu or inputs, then it's possible you either have a software corruption, the eMMC chip is bad, or your processor is going out. The easiest thing to do is replace the mainboard if possible.
@robinsutcliffe-video_art

@@NicksTVRepair Thank you so much for the reply Nick. I deduced that it would be an OS problem at some level as that Menu info has to be stored and recalled from somewhere! I will keep looking for a better model and I'll keep/sell some parts from this one.

Thanks nick another great repair, what did you use to discharge the caps? Also i can agree with the other comment about cutting component leads before you solder, it is to prevent corrosion of the end of the lead. and also the use of clinched leads to give the component some mechanical connection as well as an electrical connection by soldering. As part of our trade course in my country they trained us to military aviation standards and its pretty full on, another comment is we would use less solder than what i see you use as being able to visually inspect the joint was a big part of the quality control processes. Now when it comes to tv repairs you don't need to be so full on but you try and do the best within the time you have to affect a repair, like you said its a b grade repairs so you do what works. The only time i saw issues with too much solder was in the 90s some tvs made in Thailand for Fujitsu all the solder joints were shiny and looked good but tgey were a bit heavy on the solder, these tvs suffered under warranty lots of connection issues, might have been poor board prep, but there was too much solder to visibly see the bad connections. Regards Stormer

Hi Nick! I have a Sony KJ-55X9350D and when I turn it on the Android animation appears for a few seconds, then the tv turns off and the red light blinks 4 times. I thought it might’ve been the backlight and I tried to connect the BL_ERR cable to the GND but it didn’t work. What do you think the problem misfit be? Thank you in advance for your help.

Nick, at the end of repairing the board and at the time of measuring the power board voltage, you connected a small black box with two positive and negative wires to the board, can you explain about it?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 21 день назад
Yes so that litle box is just a battery pack with two AAA batteries so it outputs 3v. This allows me to test the power supply without having to plug it in the TV. It just fakes the mainbaord sending the turn on command to the power supply by injecting 3v to the PS_ON. There are actually only 2 wires, a red one that goes to the PS_ON line and a black one that goes to ground. The other wires you are seeing are perhaps just the multimeter leads? So when I did my first test the battery pack was not sending the 3v. So the power supply was off and when I checked the filter capacitor it was only outputting about 165v give or take. After I turned it on, that brought it up to 356 or something like that.

Hi, I have a question, I know someone that have a sony tv model : KDL-32L4000 and she said it won't power on.. so I look at it and it won't power on but I saw that the fibre optical output have a light.. If I remember I heard a clicking sound when I plugged the tv in the wall... "relais" so what should I check in the tv ? I suspect capacitors ... Thank You ^^

How about that pop'd cap c9138 at 8:26?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 21 день назад
C9138? That's a little ball of used flux that landed on top of it. Sometimes with the solder I used which has flux embedded inside the solder the flux will pop snap and crackle and a little ball of it will shoot out. Im pretty sure that's what you are seeing.

@@NicksTVRepair Do you repair Main boards too or just the power supply boards?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 10 дней назад
Mostly mainboards actually but it seems power supply board repairs have been getting way more views than my mainboard repair videos and they are also a bit easier to record so I have been doing more of those lately. If you go back to most of the videos in the recent past you can find a lot of really good high-quality mainboard repairs.
@gluema
@gluema 22 дня назад
Dit you mesure all the components of the board or how did you found the defective ones?
@NicksTVRepair
@NicksTVRepair 21 день назад
So I start with a visual inspection. Do I see any burned or damaged parts. I saw the capacitor was blown. Then I look at the component in the immediate area and do a few checks. Usually checking capacitors, diodes, and transistors for shorts, and checking resistors to see if they failed open. I don't check the entire board just the stuff in the immediate area. Then I flipped the board over to check the back and immediately saw those 3 resistors were bad. Now the Diode D9103 and the IC U9101 were not shorted but I have fixed dozens of these and I know that if I don't replace those then those 2 parts will eventually fail as they are weaken from the failure and so we always replace those 2 even if they test good.
