No Shortage Of Dangers In This Talc Mine

Abandoned Mine Exploring with Tom and Julie

While out and about, we spotted a huge ore chute on the side of a hill and just had to investigate. To our surprise, we found an inviting looking portal that led to an interesting talc mine. While making our way through the mine, we found no shortage of dangerous ore passes and caved areas. There are also some large stopes, and one of them had collapsed square set timbers in it. After exploring the mine, we gave the big chute a little test with some talc rocks.
Here is a link to one of our favorite talc mines that is loaded with really cool equipment like an ore train, mucking machines, fully intact hoist room, cage(elevator), and much more We hope you enjoy the videos!

Hello Tom and Julie. It's wonderful to see you out again, and how are my two favorite desert rats today?looks to me like you found a very interesting mine there. Was that a chalk mine or a talcum mine? And that's certainly was a large shoot, I guess they had to have it for that material. Talc mines have always given me the creeps. They are so unstable. That ore shoot looks familiar - dusting off an old memory, though I have not been in the mine. Thank you for showing me the inside. Haven't done much mine exploring this year. Last I was in was out towards Thompson Canyon. There were so many people there it looked as if someone had kicked an ant hill. Something that just popped into my head: I wonder if there is any asbestos in the talc deposits? Now I think of that after breathing all that dust from the ones I have been in. Take care.

@@-r-495 Ain't that the truth! I'll be 67 next month. Just reviewed a 2004 geologic report concerning the Death Valley talc deposits. Yes, there is asbestos, up to 1% in some deposits. Yippy! What's embarrassing, is I am a geologist, with post-graduate work in ore deposits. The thought of asbestos being in those mines just never dawned on me until now. Oh well....
