An enjoyable journey back in time. Lovely seeing those 47s on the Cross Country trains. An old 101 DMU on the Rose Hill service also! Nice to see Peter enjoying himself filming too.
How nice to see M/Cr Piccadilly again. I used to live and work in the city in 1968/9 and saw a lot of those lovely old electrics AL4's I liked best with their oval buffers.
Superb lockdown video Mike. I used to go there as a spotter when a youngster in the 1960s so I always like to see some footage from there. Cheers, Jeff.
I never went in the 60s Jeff so I don't know if the station had changed much, all I know now is the line platforms 13 & 14 are very busy. Thanks Jeff for your comment. Mike.
Well yes I think that's possible Phil, the date was just after Christmas in 2001. Look after yourself and thanks for your answer with the 47 on platform 13. All the best Mike.
Hi,my name is Phil I did 50yrs on the footplate 8yrs on steam i finished my time out at longsight as a driver but this time I was with VW cross country and the train came from Scotland to Bournemouth this locomotive worked it Preston to Bournemouth ok Regards Phil.
I used to enjoy seeing Class 31/4s going through Ashburys from Manchester Piccadilly towards Sheffield via Bradbury. Hopefully the Blue Pullman HST will do that
Well if the charter goes that way, but I believe it will be used to the normal moneymaking destinations. Wouldn't it be great if we still had some 31/4 on our railway Stephen.
So that's where all the class 47's were hiding! Excellent video; slightly gobsmacked to see class 101's still working there. As for the loco's, the class 47's seem to have come of the best: 47847 - Still running with Rail Operations Group 87033 - Exported to Bulgaria 86212 - Scrapped Feb 2011 :( 86240 - Scrapped Apr 2005 :( 47805 - Still running with Locomotive Services Ltd 47822 - Rebuilt as Class 57 - 57305 - "Northern Princess" 47747 - Scrapped June 2013 :( Edit - Sources: www.class47.co.uk/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_86 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Rail_Class_87
Mike; I've added the sources I got the info from; there's good independent info about the class 47's on the specific 47 site; all the 86 info is on Wikipedia but the 87 info is a little lacking on that site. Half the time I will go looking for pictures 6 months old or newer before flagging a loco as still running....
