In this video I will show you an easy alternative to using SkiErg that anyone can do at home with a few resistance bands. Don't get me wrong, SkiErg's are great pieces of equipment for an extreme workout, however they are costly and take up a significant amount of room at home.

Trying to find a skireg alternative and I saw this and I just V-8 Juice palm smacked myself in the forehead for how simple and brilliant of an idea this is. Thank you so much!!

I’ve put band rings on my squat rack and have done the same !😉 the only caveat is that while it mimics the movement, the lack of air resistance feels different. There’s more strength in bands unlike the cardio you get from fan resistance but it’s a great way to avoid spending money for a one trick pony that costs $1000

Yes, agree 💯. I’ve used the SkiErg before and it does feel different. Cheaper for sure!

We literally had this in our family basement in the early 1960s to practice for cross-country skiing. We used rubber tire tubes

How long is a decent time?
@hopesnotaplan
@hopesnotaplan 6 месяцев назад
@@kaybyrne5312 I did it for reps rather than time. I imagine starting at 30 seconds or 1 minute non-stop is good to baseline. Similarly, you could shoot for 20-30 reps, then determine how many more or less you should do for a workout.

I don't have a garage, however it is a brilliant idea to use the bands and attach them to something sturdy (nice savings by the way circa £850)!! 😀👍

Haha it does actually look like you are doing ski erg too, I mean I've never even tried one but looks pretty damn close
@untappedstrength7548
@untappedstrength7548 4 года назад
I’ve used one once before and it’s pretty close. If you want more resistance, switch out the band. Lol.
@EmmErrKaaEss
@EmmErrKaaEss 3 года назад
I had this idea too, BUT: How you know how much work you did? If the wod says for example 50 kcal. How you know how much strokes you have to do with the resi-band?
@HanuNL
@HanuNL 2 года назад
Look up a conversion sheet, convert the calories to Rowing or running and ask yourself "if its the same amount of work as 20 cal row, how much time do I need on the concept 2 to achieve it?" Take that amount of time (lets day 1 minute) and use it as a time priority on the bands
@EricChavet
@EricChavet 3 года назад
Thanks for the idea but it's not the same. You only have the concentric part of the movement. The eccentric one is assisted by the elastic whereas it shouldn't. The more resistence you have on the compression the more assistance you get in the eccentric part. Nb: Just tried!! It's cool actually!!
@untappedstrength7548

Haha, of course not. I’ve used the SkiErg once and it’s brutal.

@DaveNeve
@DaveNeve Год назад
Well you did ask what we think so the movement looks the same but there is virtually no resistance at the start of the movement and loads at the end which is a problem with many band exercises. But not everyone has access to a gym or the money for a ski erg, so this is a start. But could someone rig up something better using maybe a pulley system with weights? Probably yes.
@untappedstrength7548
@untappedstrength7548 Год назад
I have used a skierg and yes, i agree it is different. I can't think of an alternative that could simulate an actual skierg.
