Fun tid-bit about the Bond franchise having spanned 60 years: Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne in 1952, Bond first appeared in the novel Casino Royal in 1953, this latest film came out in 2021 while Queen Elizabeth died in 2022. that means that the Queen's reign lasted longer than the James Bond franchise(so far) and that every iteration of James Bond (thus far) has served "On *_Her_* Majesty's Secret Service".

@jenmurrayxo it may not now seem an upside but Bond will return in some form. I say this remembering how much shit Craig got when they announced him as the new bond... then he went on to be a tie for my favorite Bond m, which is largely about the stories they used him and Lazenby in.

@@jenmurrayxo For a long time in the UK Bond films were always shown on TV at holidays - Christmas, Easter, etc, rarely at any other time - so they were always a special event when I was growing up and there were already so many of them that it took years before you'd seen *all* of them. It seemed to make them last forever... Anyway, this probably won't be of interest, but you've not seen the 1950s version of Casino Royale made for US TV: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ztsXWp0nj2c.html

This never ceases to kill me inside. But you're right about it, because Bond never would have been able to live "happily ever after". He wasn't built for that, and with a daughter what would he pass on to her? It really feels like this was the only way it could end for him and it's heart wrenching that this was his happiest possible ending.

Bond 25, Craig's final, following Knives Out (2019). Pushed back by the pandemic. Going into this, i had all kind of feelings. The theme by Billie Ellish is great. Glad it dropped in pre-release and got the award buzz going. The story itself is so much to offer. Bond is still quite the hero and stakes even higher. Equal amounts of villians and allies to handle. The plot of the bigger picture, 'Preventing world domination' makes it all more awesome. At the heart, it's all about the stoicism of Bond. What he means to be as an legendary figure of the spy genre. Bond's sacrifice in this era at the end was one of the biggest surprises ever. Coming in and leaving out like a legend. Craig's time as Bond is there with Connery & Moore's eras. But don't worry..... James Bond Will Return. Don't know when. But he will.

There are massive parallels between the ending of "No Time To Die" and Flemming's short story "You Only Live Twice." In the book, James Bond is thought to have perished in an explosion while investigating the villain's lair, which happens to be a castle on a remote island off the coast of Japan complete with a garden of deadly plants. He is actually retrieved and has memory loss, so he lives amongst the locals for months. He eventually leaves to in order to find his true identity. In the next novel, "The Man With The Golden Gun", it is revealed he had been found by SMIRSH, which is SPECTRE in the films, and brainwashed into becoming one of their assassins. There were so many references to both the prior Bond films, and novels, that undoubtedly the literature inspired the twist ending of "No Time To Die."
@andrewchapman4267
@andrewchapman4267 3 месяца назад
Nitpick: It's a novel rather than a short story. But you are totally right! Also, the 'Die Blofeld, die' line was lifted straight from the novel too. Although I had a hard time believing it in this film. Bond had always known him as Franz Oberhauser (even if he does know he changed his name), I just don't see how he would be so willing to call him Blofeld.

Her lines about her training were instantly one of the most iconic in the franchise. How they made it into the movie is hilarious. She was suggested for the role by Craig, who had worked with her on the movie "Knives Out." She began diligently training for the role, but was rather new to action sequences and not quite confident. She mentioned this every day to producer Greg Wilson, Cubby Broccoli's son-in-law, until one day she asked him, "I'm just not sure. Do you think three weeks training is enough?" He looked up from a draft of the script and said, "You know what? That line is going in the movie."

@@user-le6ex5rc1s Or ana de armas character that's supposed to be a beginner but doesn't act like it at all cause "girl power" and all that. They completely ruined Bond with those last few films and killing him at the end we all know why they did it. @AD-kv9kj
@AD-kv9kj 11 месяцев назад
@@fyfyi6053 Seriously, I can't even begin to fathom how anyone could possibly think this and Spectre are good in any way. The writing is possibly the most bizarre concoction of bodged-together fan service ideas, completely pretentious self-indulgence, constantly repeated plot tricks and then tv kitchen sink drama with the little family of Bond, Moneypenny and Q all hanging out and talking endless exposition. Everyone now just goes around to each others houses to explain what's supposed to be going on with exposition and pure cringefest awkward comedy and Bond constantly losing his cool...which is completely not the character, along with many other traits people now seem to think are the character. Depressing drivel, masquerading as really high art too which is even worse. A bad Bond movie used to at least be a laugh and some fun, now we don't even get that and the depths of why the movies are bad is on another level altogether. They just destroyed the franchise because of current flash in the pan media trends. I bet Bond movies are dead now and what will happen is a load of tacky spinoffs will replace them on internet streaming services, you know the ones where every character is in their 20s, plastered in so much makeup it's really obvious even on camera and look like they're fresh off the catwalk. oh yeah, they'll all behave like really unprofessional angsty and confused teenagers always yelling at each other and being miserable too (well, some of this already happened in the craig movies).

The reality is, with this story arc, regardless of whether he lived or not they really have no option but to reboot it. This series itself was a reboot, paying lots of homage to the earlier movies, and incorporating many characters and elements, but otherwise ignored the prior films and Bond. The death just makes this Bond arc feel complete. We saw him receive his 00 status, and we saw the end. That despite whatever he (or we) may have wanted, he lived for the job, and died for it.

@@johnhenryclark911 The same way Bond could be in his 30s getting his 00 status for the first time in 2006's Casino Royale, when he has already been doing it since the 60s. I get what you mean though, until DC era there had always been a sense of continuity in the franchise, with the character resetting to a younger age with each actor. They took a chance by rebooting (a term that didn't even exist at the time) the franchise. So I can understand why they would want to close DC's time in a more conclusive way then other actors. That's not what I would have done. Will the franchise next get a similar reboot like Casino Royale did, or will it act like a continuation of the films before DC. I don't know. But they fully intend to make more. It's been documented in the news and the ending credits of this one even had (like all the others) text reading "James Bond Will Return"

@@randomhuman97 Absolutely untrue. "GoldenEye" begins with Bond in Russia in 1986... between Moore but before Dalton (the date chosen specifically for that reason) and then jumps ahead to Bond being tested for service after his actions in "Licence to Kill." And in 'The World is Not Enough," Elektra asks Bond "Haven't you ever lost anyone?" and Bond clams up cause he's thinking of his wife. And in "Die Another Day," Bond recognizes and refers to the jetpack he used in "Thunderball." It is NOT a "soft reboot." they continued the trend from the last movie. of bringing back the old tropes. the transforming transport, the quippy one liners, and that shot in the tunnel... it's a really nice homage back to the tradition of what bond is while at the same time giving the craig bond a very nice, poetic send off and evolving the character in a way that was surprisingly adult. i liked it.

What a journey it's been, Jen, can't even begin to thank you for this, both with your channel and the Bond series. Major respects for them ending it that way, but so apropos with the way Craig's tenure was so connected with each outing, more serial-esque than any prior iteration. When M was toasting him at the end and everyone in the room also repeated the toast "to James", it popped in my head that they could possibly be acknowledging all the past 'Bonds' or actors that have played the part, such an iconic character in pop culture at that, but alas, missed opportunity, they weren't. And sorry to come across as a pest for requesting it a lot, lol, but I so wish you would also do Cavill's Man from UNCLE, unless you've already seen it. I didn't see this ending coming either. Very bold & unexpected. This film is the best contemporary bond film I've seen due to the multiple gut punches of emotional tragedy, love & sacrifice. Watching all the bond films with you has been a terrific experience! Thanks Jen! 👏 👏 👍

I grew up with Bond and seeing it in the cinema I was in a state of shock at the end. I couldn’t believe they actually did it. But after a longer time with thoughts it’s the only real logical ending to give him. He’s a loner, an assassin who’s only function is to protect us from evil. The character of Bond isn’t meant to have a nice quiet life with wife and kids. His existence is for our safety and when that’s done, cinematically we salute him and he’s killed off.

Loved watching your reaction to the Bond franchise! Thanks for doing all of them. This one definitely hurt a lot but it'll be rebooted with another actor and another timeline. Similar to how Craig's Bond is in a different time-line than Brosnan, Connery etc. Fun fact, Bond's island house where he retired is the same house that Ian Fleming had written all of the original Bond novels.

Top of the mountain & end of the journey (for now). Full license & privileges in the _007_ club, granted. More Daniel Craig: 2004's _Layer Cake_ - the '00s classic that earned him the Bond role. Recommended.

I'm still mourning the end of the Craig era. The loss of the Craig incarnation, the loss of both Ms, and the support team of Eve Moneypenney, Q, and Tanner. Even though "James Bond will return," I feel, for the first team in decades, how it truly won't be the same.

An epic, exhilarating and emotionally charged end to the run of my personal favourite James Bond of all time. I'm eternally grateful for Daniel Craig's take on the iconic character and will sorely miss him 😢. Also a hearty thank you, Jen for reacting to the entire film series. I always look forward to your videos. Best wishes. 🥰x

Yes, Bond deserved a family retirement, after defeating all old foes: did the production team not favour family values, or Craig himself? Fathers and daughters have some of the best relationships, and the greatest gift a father can give his children - these characters would have had more children, is indeed to love their mother. What a missed opportunity!

As far as another universe. I've kinda felt like the Daniel Craig series IS another universe. It had a beginning, middle and end. Theoretically, they could go back to continuing where the Conner/Lazenby/Moore/Dalton and Brosnan franchise left off.

Great series Jen. You've been the best Bond reactor. Think I'm going to go through them all again. I enjoyed all the Bonds but the whole story arc to Daniel Craig has definitely been my favourite. He's such a great actor and played him as a real human Bond rather than an untouchable super hero . Made it all 3x more emotional. Think you'll appreciate it all when you've found your head space . Ps I'm cool with Cavill 🙂

Rumor according to "The Sun" (we know how reliable they are) Aaron Taylor-Johnson recently went for a secret screen test with the producers including Barbara Broccoli at Pinewood studios, and apparently he smashed it: "Aaron went for a screen test to be the next Bond in September and producers and Barbara loved him. (taken with a grain of salt).

I did actually expect Craig's Bond to die in his final movie, since it fits with the themes of NTTD and the Craig era. Themes of NTTD: * Retirement * End of the old glories of MI6 * Absolute disappearance of the faces that Bond met * Permanent loneliness * Disappearance of the 'spy Bond' due to his blood family Themes of the Craig era: * Bond being always a locus of pain and disaster for innocent people * Presentation of a world that might be better off without Bond * James with allies who need him, yet look down on him at the same time * Bond's eternal & tormenting struggle against decay His death would have upset me in another adventure with another version of the character (say, Moore's Bond or Brosnan's Bond) or in a story that didn't have the themes from NTTD. So I feel like Bond's death was a unique, cohesive and faithful way to end the Craig era.

After all the adventures, after walking like an indestructible force of nature through endless dangers, in the end Bond sacrificed himself not for huge global stakes, not to save the world, but to save one little girl and her mother.

When you understand the DC era is a re-boot, rather than a continuation with lots of dubious continuity issues like the SC, GL, RM, TD and PB era, then it's not really a death. It's just how they handled the reboot. They gave up on trying to do continuity in favour of reboots. Reboots give a huge license to do what you like. I'd like a reboot that sets the movies in the original era.

I really do love this movie, even though Craig wasn't my favorite Bond. It really brought a moving conclusion to his character. It let him become human. To be this caring character, yet still the man who gets the job done. It's a great balance for his final film, and IMO is incredibly redeeming for the character. I know some/many/all will say "that's not Bond though", but I'm glad they let Bond wrap up his character this way. I grew up on Bond, the films have ALWAYS been a part of my life. My mom let me watch the films on TV in the 70s and 80s because she loved the movies. I only wish she could have seen this movie and the conclusion to the character. It was a shocking ending to me, but a good one. Rest in Peace James. You earned it.

When i saw the clip from the movie where he says "We Have All the Time in the World" and i heard the Louis Armstrong song was in the soundtrack before the film came out, i started having flasbacks to when i was a kid and my memories of tracy bond and then as an adult with vesper lind, plus all the other unlucky girls in his life, and all i could say was "oh no not madeline now". But i did not see the twist ending coming.

When Brosnan started, he was the seasoned agent and Dench was the new boss. Then with Craig, Dench was the seasoned boos and he was just promoted to "00" status, so the Craig era was sort of a reboot itself.

I saw this in the afternoon on opening day in the US, while everyone else was at work or in school. My boss knows that I will be taking the day off whenever a new James Bond film opens. They came up with an ending I never expected. I had to wait through the credits at the end, looking for the words "James Bond will return."

First off...Congrats on doing the entire run of Bond films!!! They have been so much fun watching them through your eyes, Jen! You are awesome! - Ana De Armas was not doing all her stunts in heels. Movie magic being what it is, she was in more athletic-type shoes that were CGI'd out and replaced with the heels. I just learned that a few days ago! I loved her in this so much!!! I wanted more of her in it! - Rami Malek is as creepy as Safin, the villain. Such a change of pace from Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. He and Daniel Craig got along like a house on fire on set. | - You might have missed it, but when they were at Q's flat, he said that he was waiting for someone and that he was expecting "him" soon. I am pretty sure that this is because Ben Whishaw, who plays Q, is openly gay and asked if his character could be gay as well. This was an excellent little touch to his character. - This is still a very hard-to-watch Bond film because of the ending. It makes sense for Craig's Bond, but...not for Fleming's Bond, who always comes back. Anyway...thanks so much for these reactions.
