I think a great way to describe the differences between Craig's run as Bond and the other actors who have played Bond is this: Craig's films told us the story of James Bond, while the Connery, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan films told us the missions of 007.

Yeah I really love how his 5 films told one big story with a definite beginning, middle and end. I agree it makes his movies stand out from the rest of the Bond films. They should wait at least 10 years before starting a new Bond series, although that's probably too long a wait for a movie studio to sit on. I'm wondering if they possibly planted the seed (somewhat literally) for doing a whole different type of Bond movie in the future. One that could provide an interesting twist while still maintaining the Bond name.
@007Julie
@007Julie 2 года назад
10 years is too long, maybe 4-5 years is a good wait.
@Rand0mN0rwegianGuy
@Rand0mN0rwegianGuy 2 года назад
They'll probably hold off until next year (Barbara Broccoli, Eon Productions & co) to start thinking about and assessing who they're going to cast next in the role, and then it might take as long as 1 or even 2 MORE years before they even have found the right director for the first film with the new actor, along with the full, finished script. And, then, they'll head into production. And that'll take roughly 2 more years, or something like that probably. So, judging by that guesstimate alone, that would be around 1+1+2+2 = 6 years. So maybe about 5-6 years, or something like that - just because of the initial wait to make any decisions (they want to take their time with this, clearly, no rushed decisions whatsoever), plus all of the development phases before they'll even get to the actual production of the first film. So, at the very, very least, in my opinion - we won't see a new Bond film before 4 years have passed. So maybe 4-6. So don't worry - even if they *technically* won't go on any "hiatus", they'll definitely take their time, and it'll be a good while before we see the next one anyways. So, I guess everyone wins, regardless of their personal preference on the matter :-)

The movie was a Masterpiece. It had all the elements that made me fall in love with the franchise. The Daniel Craig treatise of the Bond character was brilliantly orchestrated by allowing the audience to witness his growth and humanity. Not gonna lie - did not see the ending, coming. As a formidable fan, l would openly brag about having seen EVERY film in the franchise, (even the David Niven spoof) at least 5 times! All the other films left me feeling energized and eager for the next installation. Dare I say, the ending to "No Time to Die" was more like a love letter to fans, conveying Craig's thanks and appreciation for supporting him, as the timeless character "James Bond". Unlike other characters, perhaps overstaying their welcome, (akin to a Boxer who's warrior spirit flame is never extinguished, even though everyone else knows it's overtime) this time, this Bond, is going out on his own terms! Bravo! I absolutely loved it and was saddened at the same time! Damn you, Craig! I guess dialogue in the FILM said it best of '007', "it's just a Number." Another character can carry the "number", but how will the Franchise and future characters carry the "name"? Interesting dilemma for writers, but makes clear, we won't see Craig, as Bond again. Big Ups though...through-out, Craig. Absolutely One of the Best Who Ever Did it, and Got Away Wit It!

~Heavy spoilers~🍿 ~Long Read~📖 I think the overall problem with this movie is that they are trying to pick up the pieces left behind from spectre, and none of whats in that movie landed or felt legitimate or earned. I Actually like Lea Seydoux as an actress who played Madeline and was excited that she was the new bond girl in spectre, but the execution of their love story was so contrived, that in the end I really didn't care or believe it was a legitimate romance. Even the people who made that movie knows what's wrong with it. Why would they double down on it? The writing and execution in the first quarter of the this movie was pretty good up to a point but the basis for the characters just weren't there for me, again cuz it so heavily relies on spectre. You could call this spectre 2 tbh The concept of Bond having a child and the fact that it's a daughter on top of it Is actually a genius move as a concept on paper, its kinda like poetic justice for him. The idea that he has to really commit and care and actually be responsible for someone more than yourself. Having that character be his daughter could have been deeply profound in that way. They could have also addressed his relationship with women through the daughter character. That would be addressing the misogyny and faults in his character. Maybe even could address the vesper Lind history that made Bond unable to commit to any real relationships with women because of how his heart was basically ripped out of his chest by Vesper. I'll give Daniel Craig this, he knocked it out of the park with this movie in terms of his acting, especially in a few key scenes. He made me really feel like he realises his life has just turned upside down the moment he saw his daughters eyes. He genuinely made me tear up couple times in the film if I'm being honest. Any scene with Bond and his daughter was elevated by Craig's acting, and almost made up for some of the lackluster writing in the film. He made me really feel Bonds urgency and angst from her safety being in jeopardy. The daughter aspect, if it was utilised more and written better, could have had the potential to make this something really special and powerful. You could potentially really disect Bond through the daughter character, break his character down, address his issues and still feel like everything organically came together, cuz there could be a central focal point for it all, his new daughter. Come to think of it, it's actually not that dissimilar to the concept of what they did for wolverine in Logan. Ok...Ana de armas was a total smoke show in this role! Holy hell she was good. Her character was badass, playful and intrigueing and that made her even sexier. I didn't think she could get more attractive but this role definitely did it. She should have been Bonds sidekick throughout the movie and become friends with him instead, moving away from a potentially cliched romance. Maybe there could have been a throughline in the film with him becoming sort of her mentor along the way since he's pretty much the most seasoned agent and she's insecure with how good she is. You can even still have the "saying no" scene later in the movie as their partnership grows and maybe some awkwardness leading to a back and forth conversation. Maybe he tells her about Vesper. Wnatever. Something like that would have felt organic, served as character development for Bond and some more three-dimensional depth to her character. Makes the "saying no" moment maybe actually mean something in the movie rather than a throwaway comedic jab at Bonds character. LaShawna Lynch was fine. The hate for this movie for her being 007 and ppl just assuming that this is more of her movie than James bonds or she's taking power away from Bond and she's taking over, screw feminism, PC agenda pushing bitches, etc etc... I never subscribed to any of that nonsense. It's almost like people are trained and groomed these days to react like that without ever giving anything a chance....hey wait a minute🤔. I like her as an actress, was looking forward to see her performance. Problem is I never understood her character's initial hostility with Bond, I was like why is she going undercover and manipulating him into bringing her back to his place just to stick it to him and show him up. Could of had the same conversation in a different way maybe in a conventional way, idk doesn't matter. I have a feeling that her character doesn't like Bond for his history of misogyny and filandering, but nothing about him as an agent. So the writers prolly decided they should have her characters main reason for not liking bond to actually be a general critique of men in society??? not cuz she has a grudge against him, or he always sucked at his job, or from some personal altercation with him. That's the type of shoehorning of PC agendas that sane ppl of the audience are talking about. Give her a real reason not to like Bond and you can still have her give him shit about his relationship with women. Also you'd think they would have just started out as platonic competition instead of trying to one up and literary sabotage each other's missions when they both have literally the same goal, especially when the stakes are potentially so high. You think maybe she would look up to bond a little, wouldn't the new agents and recruits look up to bond? Wouldn't they all want to secretly be like him, not as a person, but as an agent? Since when is going by the book and putting down your legendary predecessors an interesting character trait. Aren't you supposed to like her by the end of the movie? They didn't give any real scene or event that gets them to respect each other to follow through on squashing the animosity, so what was the whole point? At least Naomi Harris's character didn't have all this nonsense. No newcomer is just going to give a middle finger to the previous guy when he's freaking James Bond, he should be a legend amongst new agents. This whole thing of Bond being out of his time and too old was addressed in Skyfall and spectre so that stuff felt tired. I have no problem with the ideals that were being pushed to be PC and give Bond some me too'ing, but the execution is too forced. At least itsl not as bad as Disney's Star wars tho. There is a way to do this people, organically, where it doesn't feel like a soapbox. Side note, felt the action was a bit underwhelming in this movie. It peaked with the scene in the first half with that goon shooting away at Madeline's window in the car and James just letting it happen while he deliberates wether to trust her or not. Great Bond moment and was narratively creative. This whole scene is totally Bond and badass. You believe Bond would be an asshole and do something like that. For the most part though this series has lost its edge especially in the action scenes, starting with some parts of Skyfall and heavily with spectre. They just came across as made to look pretty and expensive and putting more effort into the camera work trying to get everything in one one shots rather than making the action actually exciting. You guys remember the parkour scene leading to the shootout at the embassy in Casino Royale?! Those action scenes have so much edge to them, you feel the danger bond is in. Editing is one of the most important components to action scenes and these just feel like constantly unnecessary long takes. Now we even have parts where he is just walking right out in the open, firing his gun vaguely in bad guys direction, on a set that probably costed 1/4 of the movies budget. Even holding his gun from the hip at times and still casually just hitting his mark every time. All the while with the bond theme blaring in the background. Did the same thing in spectre at the desert scene. Just seemed like a total waste and honestly a bit lazy. The SUV Chase was ok I guess but it has Bond literally nudging his car into the bad guys cars just once and they go flying in to some convenient obstacle or hit a ramp that launches them into a flip. A lot of the action is like this and it comes off as just lazy even though they spend hundreds of millions of dollars making these movies. All that being said I didn't hate the movie, if you watch it just as a spy drama it's not that bad. I didn't get bored really that much even tho it's almost 3 hrs. So take that for what it's worth. There's annoying bits of comedy and one liners that come off as awkward rather than funny. Always thought that kind of stuff didnt fit for Craig's films. Rami Malek was good, but underrutilized. His characters ultimate goal was not really clearly defined, at least to me, but I think he served his purpose in the movie. Nothing more nothing less. For me I didn't mind bond dieing, and the film for the most part earned it, was done decently enough. It's certainly better than quantum of solace and spectre. A serviceable end to Daniel Craig's era. Although, I have noticed things about these last 3 films and they make me feel that ever since The Dark Knight came out, the people behind these films have been trying to copy Chris Nolan's aesthetics, that should stop. But that's a whole nother conversation. Thanks for reading.

I don't think it's true that Dalton's movies were "mediocre-ly received". If memory serves, The Living Daylights was a hit in 1987, in large part because a youthful Dalton taking over the role after Moore had creaked along for several movies gave the franchise new life. Dalton is an underrated Bond that doesn't always get the credit he deserves.

I couldn’t agree more about Madeline. I actually found myself actively questioning in my head, WHY did he so particularly fall in love with her? In two movies worth, I can’t think of anything special, personality-wise or story-wise, that would make Bond fall for her in particular. Their relationship felt so superficial and forced to me. I remember feeling it was weird at the end of Spectre when he drives off with her. For how wasted Monica Bellucci was in that movie, I feel like it really should have been her character that Bond formed the connection with and ended up with. There probably would have been way more chemistry between Craig and Bellucci than there was between him and Seydoux. It would have felt like a more mature relationship too that was motivating Bond to mature, with her not being like 20 years younger than him.

Daniel Craig is an excellent Bond. It's hard to say he's the best because he brought some edge and weariness to the role that put a new spin on the character, but was still true to the essence of Bond. He will be missed. I'm sure the way he went out is an issue for some, but I thought Craig delivered in terms of performance.

Misses The Mark in a big way-The filmmakers seem to think that the only way they can make the female protagonist look good is to make Bond look like a fool who can't make wise decisions or shoot and fight with any kind of skill anymore. It wants to be like the classic On Her Majesty's Secret Service but literally misses the mark because of its patchwork quilt composition of set pieces and the underlying propaganda.

Three RIPS in the Bond franchise: 1. Sean Connery the quintessential on-screen character actor, 2. Roger Moore as the cheeky self-parody version, and of course 3. the love-letter farewell in No Time To Die where a bunch of nostalgia is remembered and a few key characters do in fact DIE, including 007 Bond himself. Good luck if/when the producers try to get it back in 1-2-3-5-10 years.

I’d be surprised if EON did that. We’ve already had a huge break, in part thanks to the pandemic. And they’ve already confirmed the hunt for the new Bond begins next year. Seems like we’ll get a new one sooner rather than later.

I never saw Daniel Craig as James Bond. The formula for Daniel Craig: Action sequence, kills... Bond mopes. Another action sequence. More killing. Bond gets dressed down for being an old, white man. Bond kills some more. Bond mopes. Bond kills. He gets tortured. He kills some more. He mopes some more. And two-and-a-half hours, every movie. No charm. No fun. Any idea of a character you knew from the series: “Hey, what if we made this character the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of whatever everyone knew as the character? Wouldn’t that be neat and edgy?” More action, more kills, more moping. Thank god someone put Bond out of his misery.

@@nrgspike In the end it really comes down to the cast, especially Bond girls. The problems with Skyfall and No time to die are Bardem and Malek, two horrible casting choices.
@nrgspike
@nrgspike 2 года назад
@@chrish7 I agree with you on Bardem. But it's more the type of villain for me - in CR and QoS, they were the kind of real-world scumbags that actually exist. No megalomaniacal plans of world domination, just the desire to make a profit irrespective of the harm they cause. That changed with Skyfall, we went back to the monologue-ing villains of yore; which is fine, but we've had 20 of those films already. Craig's Bond was on a far more interesting trajectory appropriate for 2010's, but it seemed like the producers lost their nerve and went full fan-service, resulting in the last three decidedly mediocre efforts.

So, today I watched No Time to Die for the first time. I've been spending the entire summer watching all the Bond films for the first time (I've never seen a single one prior to this summer). And I know so many people love this movie, but I really only enjoyed the third act. The first two did nothing to me, and honestly dragged on and on. Watching all 25 canon Bond films in such a short amount of time, you realize how repetitive and formulaic they are, and as a writer, that drove me up a wall. You mention the double-crosses. Oh my gosh, I got so sick and tired of them! How many Bond movies have a double-cross? I count at least eight, and I'm sure there are ones I'm forgetting. Maybe I should only watch the Craig Bond movies going forward, but I was just so burnt out on this series by the time I got to No Time to Die.
@markgraves6441

It's interesting that you said there's no time in the movie for everything to have it's place, and then complained that the movie is too long. That's a bit contradictory. I disagree about both statements. I thought they tied up all the loose ends and the movie moved forward like a snowball rolling downhill and I didn't spend the movie watching the clock. When the credits rolled, I was surprised almost 3 hours had passed and I was pleasantly surprised that it redeemed the mess that spectre left us with. I loved this movie
@maazqureshi7200
@maazqureshi7200 2 года назад
two things can be true. the film can definitely add unnecessary dialogue and action and not give the main characters enough time to build themselves which will leave plot holes. also if your standard is redeeming Spectre, that's not difficult to do with all the terrible action, writing, and acting.

I've been a big Bond fan for 30 years and I absolutely loved No Time To Die. I'll have to see it again to properly know where I'd rank it, but it could be at the very top of the list. There are several amazing action scenes, Bond's mission has big stakes, and Bond's personal story was fantastic. I think that last point is why I'll now say that Daniel Craig is my favourite Bond. I've liked all the actors, but whereas I've enjoyed the others as spies or action heroes, Craig's Bond is the first that really made me care about him as a person. The main point where I'll disagree with Dan's NTTD review is about the length. I hate when movie critics do this, it seems like any time a film is more than 2 hours they always say "its too long". I was never bored and I never looked at my watch. I watched all of Craig's Bond movies over 2 weeks before going to see No Time To Die. Really great series, Quantum of Solace is definately the weak point, for me its because of the shaky camera and fast editing in the action scenes, I can't tell what is happening. First time I saw Spectre I was underwhelmed, not terrible but not great. However, I do think that No Time To Die makes Spectre better because of the storylines and character development that continued. Its almost like a 2 part story, now the story is complete, part 1 makes more sense.

Craig's era=best Bond, best Bond films, hands down. My order, from best to not so much: Skyfall Casino Royale Spectre Quantum of Solace No Time To Die My reasoning for NTTD: I have to blame it on the screenplay. The "formula/structure" of the Craig era films was completely turned on its head. We get "Bond in love," retired, and always chaperoned by another (predominantly female) agent or character. Craig's Bond had always been cold and emotionally indifferent, but this was a very different portrayal. It definitely didn't have enough action sequences (especially for the extended length), and most of the supporting cast didn't seem really "into" their roles. Malek's portrayal wasn't as strong as I would have hoped, and of course, there is the ending. Still a decent film: great looking cinematography, IMAX utilized, and I can't wait to pick it up on 4K in December. It was the first film since the pandemic to get me into a theater. Everyone should go see it, not least out of respect for what Craig gave us in all those years of commitment to the role.

I don't know. I never felt Daniel Craig to be like the "classic" Bond. Too much Jason Borne. The other Bonds are smoother and use less knuckles to resolve all issues. But as action movies, they were okay.

Daniel Craig is the Christian Bale of the Bond Franchise. His Bond films are The Dark Knight Trilogy of the franchise. Craig made Bond, dark, gritty and a believable character again. He brought the franchise back to it's roots. Just like Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan did with the Batman character. Casino Royale is the Bond version of Batman Begins. It gave fresh new life to the Bond Franchise, and brought it back from the goofiness and the over the top galore of Die Another Day. Just like Batman Begins did it after the backlash with Batman & Robin. Craig made the Bond films, dark, believable and realistic again. Also you could say that No Time to Die is the Bond version of The Dark Knight Rises. As Bond sacrifices himself to save the world just like Batman did it in The Dark Knight Rises. Both the Bond and Batman films have had a similar evolution in tone and depiction. By initially starting off as dark and gritty, then becoming camp and over the top. Then becoming dark, grounded, realistic and serious in tone again.

EXCELLENT REVIEW!!! And not a single spoiler in sight -- good job! Part of me thinks they should have split the plots into two movies, filmed simultaneously and released consecutively, but it probably would have watered the end result down and lessened how good this one wound up being. Also agree that while James Bond WILL return, one does have to ask.. should he? Too soon to tell, and I'd like to see them sit on this for awhile before "rebooting" the franchise. Maybe start with someone really young and go deep into them becoming the Super Secret Spy we all know and love. Thinking I'd like to see Regé-Jean Page give the role a shot, but introducing Lashana Lynch in NTTD makes that kinda awkward now, eh?

I really enjoyed this one, I put only Skyfall above it and I think I enjoyed it as much as Casino Royale. I need another viewing, but my honest opinion of Rami Malek is while I love him and his performance, the villain itself felt a little underuser and somewhat pointless, I think they could have stuck with what they had and it still be effective. It felt it's length at times but I didn't really have a problem with the length as it delivered on the action and amazing set pieces as Bond usually does. I didn't mind the gender politics stuff either, I think it was handled about as sensibly as it could be, poking fun but not making the 'female Bond' as everyone is understandably and correctly against. Overall as the final Craig outing, I really enjoyed it and thought it put a nice bow on his era/story as Bond.

I thought it was not only one of the best looking Bond's, but one of the best shot action films I've seen. Beautifully framed and lit, as there's a long shot with virtually no cuts near the climax that so reminded of my favourite scene from S1 True Detective in it's direction. Loved the film, even if I have an issue with how it's ended.

If by some miracle Henry Cavill actually did get cast as James Bond, and have as good a debut as Casino Royale was for Craig, the transition to a new Bond could be as smooth as silk. But I honestly hope they drop the idea of having an actor's entire run be part of some ongoing arc, especially if they are going to retroactively try to tie-in events that from the prior films and novels were not related in any way. It's for reasons like that that Casino Royale and Skyfall have probably been rewatched infinitely more times than the other Craig Bond films.

I have a top 300 favorite movies list, and only three of them before this one made the list, but I am not sure where to put this latest as I watched it with an autistic boy who had to go to the bathroom twice and he sits for awhile. What I do know is that it made the list and was better than the other two by Daniel Craig, but I am not sure if it beat "Goldeneye." 140) 007: Goldeneye (1995) 191) 007: Quantum of Solace (2008) 249) 007: Skyfall (2012) So what I can say is that Daniel Craig made the top 200 for sure. I think it is going to fall out above 140 and making this the best series of James Bond ever.
