Maybe we have different concepts of "poverty", but I don't see it as a "poor" town. It is small and simple, but there are supermarkets, the streets are clean, the houses are generally well maintained, and they have garbage collection, the Cars are well parked, you don't see beggars or people living on the street, etc. It's not a big city, obviously, but I think people live well.
Murcia is a land of passage. It has always been squeezed between two powerful regions like Valencia and Andalucia. It has many hours of sun and very fertile land, but it does not have much water. The most important river, the Segura, serves to supply the population, but not for agriculture. The water that Murcia receives to have so much agriculture comes from a pharaonic work in Spain: the Tajo-Segura transfer. In 1966 it was decided to build an aqueduct that would carry water from the longest river in Spain, the Tajo, in the north, to the Segura River, to supply the fertile lands with water. The work finished in 1979, and is almost 300 km. It carries water from the Tagus River to the Segura, even overcoming differences in level of 400 meters in mountainous areas. It is a huge canal with a perfect calculation of the contribution of water from one river to another. There are canals, reservoirs, pumping stations to overcome unevenness... all to supply the dry area of Murcia, generating an intense agricultural sector. The next dry province, already in Andalusia Almeria decided to supply agriculture with greenhouses and drip irrigation. The result is even more powerful than in Murcia, and 4 crops are extracted per year with a minimum flow of water. Nice video Barry. I like these towns where the tourists don't go. That stadium thing by the way is an outdoor cinema. That tall roundish tower at the front is the projection room and the huge white wall is the screen. 😀👍
Having worked just outside Fuente Alamo a few years back in Las Palas, one thing I can still vividly remember is the, ahem..."agricultural" smell from the fields. Lovely part of the world but it does get right up your nostrils.
Thanks for visiting my local town very spanish. There are a few british there as there is Golf resort and surrounding pueblos of which we have an apartment there is new mercadona and potential lidl some nice restaurants and cafes a good market and not far from the airport. Shame we weren't over there when you were. 😊
Comparing Capital city to a little Spanish village in middle of nowhere are you being serious 😂😂..go up Madrid and you will find property is alot more expensive aswell..like any property you pay for location its not rocket science!

It's 20 minutes to Mazarron & Cartagena & about half an hour to the beaches of the Mar Menor. It's a cracking little town with everything you need but you really do need to speak some Spanish to get by properly.
