Thanks so much for your time and information. My 2014 Town & Country has 194,000 miles on it. I had to replace the leaking, PLASTIC, oil filter / cooler assembly at 122,000 miles. Now I found my current driveway puddle has shifted to the left and I found a slight leak at the transmission housing. I used your technique and added about a quart of ATF, Level was low and now it's good. This van runs great and gets me 27 mpg on the highway. I'll take a stow n go minivan as a utility vehicle any day.
This is no joke one of the best ideas I have seen on RU-vid, thank you for sharing! One more reason for us to keep our old cars to avoid nonsense like no dipsticks...
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I bet if an aftermarket company made a dipstick for these so it could be checked like a normal transmission and sold it for $20 or so they would make a fortune.
Dude! Youre awesome! I just hate youtubers that talk sh** and make out of 2 min movie a 25 min narration about nonsens! THE BEST! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
A huge thank you again and what the hell was Chrysler thinking of when they didn't put a dipstick they want to know why they have all this problem with transmission maybe it has with the fact that nobody can check their damn fluid thank you you're a lifesaver 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I watch these broadcasts with my great nephew. He's discovered the Automobile as a hobby , I do my best to get on the garage floor with him and teach all I can remember, and has introduced me to this whole plethora of modernity as I pass on practical and technical skills to him . I went to work for Plymouth after I came home from Korea , and I retired from the Old North Assembly plant before Plymouth was Idled . Throughout my career of over 30 years I liked to believe the men of my generation, that we were all trying to leave behind a legacy that was worthy of praise by developing and building quality Automobiles that wouid continue to become more cost effective, efficient and reliable . I see more and more that we failed to leave that to the future generations. We really did try , I'm very sorry it came to this . Shame on us .
That's really awesome that you spend time showing him some skills! I have to say I'm still mad at my father for never showing me any craftsmanship or mechanical skills. He was a master automobile technician but didn't show me anything.(though that is partly due because my parents got divorced when I was 10) It wasn't until I got into mini bikes and dirt bikes that I really started learning about mechanics. You're doing it right! Get them started early and he will be thanking you the rest of his entire life. Whether he does it as a career or if it's just the fact that he possesses that useful skill set.
And yeah it's really a shame to see the low quality of American Automobiles these days. But it's not the workers fault. Corporate greed and the EPA and all that stuff...
NoNonsenseKnowHow Well thank you , your a very knowledgeable technician and you teach at a very good pace for people . You should consider working a few days a week at a technical school or community college . I wouid have hired you at the drop of a half dollar. I think the best men to build and maintain Automobiles are the ones who have genuine passion for them and you certainly enjoy your work .. you also help me teach my nephew , sometimes I have trouble remembering things and your videos and 5 or 6 other fellas who broadcast here help me save a lot of time going through all the Assembly and service manuals I've procured over my creer . what would take maybe hours to look up , you men provide in seconds , what a great time we live in . Keep em rolling fellas .
@@1979mackdriver thanks for all the kind words man! I definitely appreciate the input. If I had opportunity to work every technical school. I would certainly Jump On It.
Yeah Eric at South Main Auto is definitely on point! I'm not sure where he originally found this method, or if he came up with it himself but it certainly works great!
I have had a 2009 Chrysler T&C since 2013 and checking transmission fluid level has been a deep mystery till now! Especially appreciate looking at that tang inside the transmission that the dipstick bottoms out on. That picture was worth a 1,000 words. Appreciate you, thanks.
Dude! Not sure why Chrysler decided to get rid of easy access trans refill let alone a dipstick that tells the levels of fluid, without having to purchase an insanely expensive part but thanks for explaining in perfect detail what I can do to bypass that tool. Keep up the great work.
Yeah it's stupid that they got rid of it. The special dipstick is actually a lot cheaper now than when I made this video. There is a link to one on Amazon in the description of this video I think they're like 10 bucks
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I did just look it up and you're right. For about $10 to $15 on Amazon, you can pick one up. That's a much better price and to be honest I'll probably pick one up just to have at that price. Thanks for all your help.
No problem at all man! If you want to support my channel, click on my latest video and let it play through. Helps me out huge. Even if you don't watch it. Thanks man!
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow By the way, I'm having a hard time finding how much transmission fluid my 2016 Grand Caravan R/T takes. Yes, it's the 3.6 litter. I could look in the manual but I'm inside researching on the computer and it seems that everyone has a different answer. Could you tell me how much, please? Thanks for all your help.
Yeah man thanks for the 62TE update. Updating the 62T video. Awesome innovation by yourself and Eric the car guys hack. This backyard non-tech will honer you by celebrating with an ice cold beer later!
For you to give credit to Eric O., who is among my top favorite mechanics on RU-vid, tells me a lot about your integrity! You are terrific! Just for that, I am going to subscribe..... Done!
The short lived oil lines started with G.M. in the late 80 s , I don t miss having to buy all the latest and greatest diagnostic tools that some engineer says I needed to stay in business . Good vid
Yeah I agree with you on that. Those crimps are guaranteed to fail and leak. I'm into simple Vehicles myself as well. That's why I drive a 1996 Dodge Ram Cummins
Awesome video man!! I have a Dodge Journey and was pissed when I couldn’t check the fluid level!! Thanks so much for this video!! 🤘🏼👍🏼 subscribed for sure!!!
Yes thank you Chrysler for getting rid of the dipstick. Like everything else you get rid of things on your Van's that were useful or make some things worse than your older models.
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow how much transmission fluid does it take for a 2016 town and county van we though 5 quarts but i ran over a rock and tore 1 of my -pans up all the fluid drained out we put new pan on have put 7 quarts in and still not showing on stick like you say here can you tell me how many it takes
Manual for my 2014 T&C says service trans at 120 K, but I'm thinkin' that's stretching it. I replace the spark plugs at 100 K like the book says, so that's a good time to do the trans fluid as well. While I'm at it, I'll R&R the serpentine belt, as well ...
I just bought a 2009 grand caravan with the transmission problem. after it warms up it don't move. I think its only low. with this video I now can check it. This was very helpful. THANK you
Thank you for the feedback and comment! Really appreciate it. Glad to hear the video helped and hopefully she runs good with some more fluid! The trans cooler lines are very common to leak on these
I have changed my 2014's every year, just due to the fact that we haul 2 jetski's on a modified Yamaha jetboat trailer (heavy) to Barkley, every weekend in the summer, 78 miles one way. I just marked my dipstick with this info (and GREAT info it is!). But....I wonder if the STAR information is incorrect, because I always get 5 quarts during extraction, and always put 5 back in. NOW.....checking COLD with the oil dipstick, it is right at the bottom of the BEND attribute in the dipstick (the little squiggly bend). I been turning wrenches pro for over 20 years, and this is kinda funny, as I have noticed other MFG's have been using no tranny dipsticks since these "squiggly" bends have been showing up on these newer dipsticks in FWD vehicles. Great video! Keep on wrenchin'!!!
I cant believe there wasn't a stick in my car. I had an issue and was without my computer. I needed to check my level and could not find the dip stick. Now I know why. Thanks for your tip. I am going outside to try it right now!!!
I just watched one video that said to buy that "dipstick tool" you mentioned. Another video showed manufacturer procedure that would take two days to preform. I thought about using a coat hanger or similar, but using the oil dipstick? Simple genius!!! K.I.S.S. KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID 👍. Gonna try this today!
Yeah a lot of Manufacturers don't even have the tube on there anymore and you have to check it with a scan tool or from underneath. At least Chrysler left the tube in place on these 62te
You provided a great $$ saving tip with the oil dipstick idea. Unfortunately my 2013 Charger 3.6 VVT 8 speed transmission BR45 has only a "fill plug" - no transmission fill tube.
Many cars now don't have dipsticks. Owners for those that have caps that have straight access to the pan should do this BEFORE they need service. Use your oil dipstick and mark it by checking the level when the car is new. One mark for cold and one for hot. Now you're all set!
That was awesome..... thank you for that excellent video. Even I understood everything. I love your videos. You get to the point quickly and it is so easy to understand...
Hi, I'm Jhonny from New York. Congratulations on your work and the impeccable, technical, specific and professional way in which you work and explain everything. You are very intelligent and fine in your work and in the way you explain everything and how you do everything, you are a true high-level and high-end mechanic that today are not very common, I like it very much. continue like this and thank you very much. Now I want to ask you which 2009 Chrysler town country engine is the best, the 3.8l or the 4.0l. I wait your answer. thank you very much and God bless you
Finally some one explained to usterstand, liked. Ill have to convert from mm to inches indor to get my measurements with my imperial measuring tape, buts ok. Thanks.....
Malchik Blue The only fiat cars are the Cherokee, Compass and Renegade! Those are junk Fiat/Jeeps! The other vehicles are all American. I’ll take a couple of easily replaceable leaky lines any day.
If you have no leaks you dont have to check the fluid level, You have to know the temperature of the fluid to ajust the right level accordingly with the shart .Many peoples overfill the transmission causing foaming and leaks
Thank you very much for showing that I have a 2013 Dodge Grand caravan 3.6 and when I looked down I go dealer plug only are they kidding if they cut back and prices for a dipstick what else did they cut back on it's really starting to scare me a little bit but thank you for your help I'm definitely going to follow it 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the sub man and glad to hear the video helped you out! Ever have an automotive question, feel free to comment on any of my videos and I'll be sure to get back to you.
Man THANK YOU ! I was wondering what was up with my trans and no dip stick . Seems like they are imitating Mercedes Benz on that "no dipstick" and the Same Type of Key . Is this the same on RAM C/V looks IDENTICAL to the caravan and town and country but its the CARGO one . Has no back seats . Thanks. Wondering if its the same on 2012 RAM CARGO VAN . Identical body to Caravan .
awesome! another video I just saw was named "how to check trans fluid level in a journey, however he went on to say that you cant actually measure it. So why name the video "how to check your trans fluid level "? wtf. awesome video man
I just bought a 2012 Chrysler T&C and I am going to mark my oil dipstick to check Trans fluid, great idea. Also, I want to change my engine oil filter between oil changes and was wondering will the filter be full of oil when I do that? Thanks.
Usually if you drain the oil first, the filter cavity will empty as you crack the threads loose and break the seal. On some Vehicles I've seen that they do Stay full though. It's supposed to have a drain valve in the bottom of it though that automatically drains the cavity. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment
Awesome video. I’m definitely a new subscriber. Maybe I missed it in the comments but how do you get the printout? I have a 2010 town and country, does that make any difference?
Thanks, I appreciate the sub. If you just Google 62te transmission dipstick chart, it should pop up. I will try and find a link to it now and add it in the description of this video
