to me, this depicts how actually long and painful the development of the game was. i mean, in if 2017 they already have the map plan and even some quests that made their way into the final piece, than most of their working time went on basically perfecting what they had from the start. polishing the visuals, - models and map, interface, bug fixing, but most important - making every little scrape of text just enough snappy and crunchy, so that it wouldn't be just "go ask the rebellous girl for paint, fail the check and get it freely", but instead "make her so sad about your sorry state, that she will give, but only brush without paint and embarrass you up to your gills for the road"
There’s a fantastic Gamespot piece if you haven’t seen it already called “The feature that almost sank disco elysium” and it has Kurvitz talking through various ideas like the thought cabinet and it’s insane what they achieved, but even more so that they were actually even more ambitious than the end product, they wanted all kinds of overlapping going on with copotypes, thoughts and political leanings. Even sadder to consider what they were cooking up next with that disco money
when the line “no truce with the furies” comes up in sacred air it’s a powerful moment. i kinda hate that they had to change the title because people thought they meant furries.

@@mogim815 sure, so i dont get flagged for spam just google "disco elysium tigsource forums" and it's the very first result. go to page 11 for the post where they officially announce the new name as Disco Elysium, but the thread is full of people saying they thought it was "furries" and the devs going back and forth with them about it.
They also planned to make Lena a partner with you on the adventure but the wheelchair was too problematic, and they actually have Lena mention that Martinaise isn’t very wheelchair friendly as a nod to the idea, after you ask her to join you in the game.
what if kim always has a health bar you just can’t see it. and it increases or decreases based on your choices. you only find out his health if he makes it to the end of the game.
I think you do actually, I suspect this was a very early basis of the “trust” score you have with Kim. Maybe in the early development it was more visual, say something racist and the morale goes down or something, but they made it more of a passive background score which could then present itself in more surprising ways later on…like the tribunal check.
If I remember correctly, the game was initially intended to have a dedicated combat system. The final game's party member system (with portraits and all) is likely a remnant of this idea
