AND you have videos on how to go out and find your own clay in nature. AND you have videos on how to process that clay into clay that you can use to make your pottery. YOU are a one stop shop for all things pottery!😃

A 4th option is a homemade Kick wheel. I made mine for under $100. Since they have been around for centuries, I still consider it primitive. But I love coil building the most.

Hey I just watched the video where you tried to hit higher temps in your furnace. I might suggest once you hit 700 or 800 degrees pour a bag of charcoal into the top of the furnace. It burns hotter than wood and having direct contact or nearer contact with the pots should help with the lack of insulation as the heat is more readily available to the pots.
@AncientPottery
@AncientPottery 2 года назад
Thanks for that, yes, I think that would definitely boost my temps. I want to do some experiments with charcoal this summer.

Different FIRST QUESTION ... ( because Ive already watched your kiln videos lol ) ... I've started pottery at my community center and they provide the clay ... after seeing this, I want to do some of this at home. Where do you suggest a noob like me look to buy clay?
@AncientPottery
@AncientPottery 2 года назад
If you are hoping to fire at your community studio then you may need to use their clay, some of those places are fussy about firing any clay other than that provided. But if you are hoping to fire outdoors then New Mexico Clay has some great low-fire hand building clays. You may also want to watch this video where I compare different commercial clays for use in this kind of pottery ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-n1zwTqlu4GI.html

Just incase this helps other people. Not sure how old this particular technique is, but I was watching a video about Yixing pottery, and they were using a wheel that looked more like a lazy susan, that they controlled with their hands. I'm planning to use a similar technique.

Is it possible not to fire it if it’s just for decoration. Why fire it?
@AncientPottery

Why NOT fire them? You can keep an unfired pot indefinitely. But it is fragile and if it gets wet it will start to dissolve. Are you afraid to try firing?
