---> Best part about this song... Bob wrote it, but songwriting credit was mysteriously given to Vincent Ford. Turns out Vincent ran a soup kitchen in the ghetto of Trench Town. The royalties from the song made sure that the soup kitchen would stay open and help as many people as possible. Bob was an awesome guy.
Classic tune. The performance is from the final stop on the tour in support of what Time magazine later dubbed the best album of the 20th century, Exodus. Marley was shot in his home in Kingston in December 1976 and left for exile in London where he recorded that hit filled album, featuring "Jamming", "Waiting in Vain", "One Love/People Get Ready", and "Three Little Birds". When you're ready for more from Bob Marley, check out "Trenchtown Rock" from the Bob Marley and the Wailers 1975 album Live! recorded two years earlier at the Lyceum Theatre, London. It's also a classic.
Love me some Bob Marley! Redemption Song is my personal favorite! I won tickets to a Ziggy Marley concert at the Stone Pony down the Jersey shore a few years back.Man,did we have a blast! Let's just say there was an abundance of silly smoke in the air,and everyone was so chill and happily vibin!🎙🎶😎
My fav album of Bob's is 'Kaya'. But for a good cross section including all his best go to the 'Legend' compilation. All first class. Super stuff!! Cheers JM ✌
Spot on with the commentary. Whenever I'm sad or depressed I play his song "Three Little Birds" and it totally changes my mood. He makes me feel like everything really is going to be alright.
Man dat was a great review of that song…wow..the whole concert is great, you should react to more songs from this concert and more bob in general…check out his bio pic coming out on Valentine day 2 14 24
Cancer. Started from a foot injury, playing Football/Soccer with his band and friends, in Jamaica. He didn’t heal that well. Cancer, is when cells don’t follow their function. Cancer went through his body. His last song in concert was “Redemption Song” during a concert in Pittsburgh (a recording is on CD). Bob M’ was flown to Germany, for experimental cancer treatment. His dreads were shaved, losing his hair. He died. (An excellent documentary, about a decade ago, interviews, film, photos, his Life)
IIRC he had melanoma, a skin cancer, in his foot. An injury can worsen a cancer, since cancer cells reproduce way faster than normal cells. (I could gas on about this sink I have a rare form, in my eye, but his songs are so uplifting that I won’t.)
Yes! So many great Bob Marley songs. I will add War and Exodus. War is largely derived from the address Haile Selassie gave at the UN General Assembly in 1963. Iron Lion Zion is about Haile Selassie. There is fascinating cultural and political background here.
This is the real stuff, where the "Legend" comes from. Steer clear of that sanitized collection and always dig into the studio albums. There's some good live videos, such as the rest of this concert, but the sonic alchemy (the mix of sound, the delivery, and the lyrics) on his best recordings are the heart of the matter. Sure, he made some love songs, and in the right circumstances, such as this song, I sing along joyfully, but I saw him in '79 and he was preaching revolution.
