this album resonated the most among all the kicks to me. the fact that you said you wan to listen to it in the dark is funny because I exactly did that! you need to give another listen to paws its sooo good! last thing, you looked intoxicated when you said boquifloja LOL and it also the first song where she uses a guitar too!

This album is my personal favorite. You are so right, it's so confusing why it's so underrated. I love how all the Kicks give something new and different for the fans who like her for different reasons.

arca literally feels like the mozart of modern production she does what feels right, often utilizes improvisation to develop her lyrics and production, and it ends up being completely revolutionary on both a musical level as well as an electronic production level. until i started producing myself i never realized just how mind boggling some of the things she pulls off are. even the most strictly hip hop producers i know personally and find on reddit are just left mind blown at the technical skill everything arca makes exemplifies whenever i compare arca with an artist in my head i consider better than her, i just get left with this feeling that arca could do what everyone else does, but nobody could do what arca does also: i hate to leave long comments, but i noticed something with the ending songs of this album with songs like altar and the song that comes before it, arca kind of loses her audience *in general*. her pitched vocals, ambience, and style on this album is definitely something many people wouldn’t find approachable, and while the beginning of the album doesn’t have this accessibility issue as much, the middle section can definitely lose you just because of how long, pitched, and ambient it all sounds. “Witch” into “Hija” into “Boquifloja” certainly can sound repetitive, droning, and anticlimactic. While “Alien Inside” is more abrasive, it also features just spoken lyrics with a sci-fi like production on the vocals that may also make people feel as though they aren’t really listening to a “song”. And then “Altar” I feel may lose people even more in the slow ambience this album has. But then the end of “Altar” happens. I listened to this entire album series on a long drive, and on this album I was kind of zoning out the music more and just in my thoughts more. When the end of Altar hit though, the beats at the end and followable rhythm immediately drew me back for the few seconds it occurred, and then “Lost Woman Found” began to blast triumphantly and I felt my attention immediately back. While the last few songs were difficult to follow musically, “Lost Woman Found” features an extremely easy beat to listen to. It uses the same few notes continuously and even has a “flow” to it, sort of like Arca is saying “don’t worry you were lost for a bit in this music but watch, you can follow it and understand it”. While this song alone feels like it should be a closer, the reason why “Paw” is there at the end made much more sense to me when I listened to the entire series because I realized the production behind the song goes in a circle. It feels like the mid section of the album loses direction. Our brains aren’t really even ready to listen to what Arca did on the album; thus, we don’t follow it as much. “Paw” however, literally goes in a circle after we are flowing with “Lost Woman Found” and regaining are equilibrium. It brings us around and around until the middle of the song literally pulls you up. It’s like Arca is saying “follow me, keep going, go up, go up you can do it” and then when we reach the peak she drops us as the beat itself drops and cascades. As we cascade we aren’t lost, or confused, or frighteningly overwhelmed like in “Araña” or “Confianza” or basically all of kick iii. Instead we are prepared and balanced and it’s like Arca, utilizing her own expression of her journey, has helped us become just as comfortable and stable with the flux that is ourselves and our experience as she is. We then go into kick iiiii which is a conclusion that is comfortable, not over achieving, not over the top, not childishly climactic, but is a beautiful solidarity within the cessation of the journey the previous kicks brought us toward and kick iiii is like a final exhausted reflection before such a transition reaches cessation.
