I always wanted a bit of a curve on my platform but did not realise the complications. I achieved it but not perfectly but it works.

Yes creating curved platforms as opposed to straight platforms is overwhelmingly difficult to say the least, but they do look so much better than boring old straight platforms. I used the same technique that you used by holding a pencil beside my longest carriage and drawing a line on my baseboard to indicate the position of the platform edging. I used Peco NB-26 - brick type edging. I'm running N scale. Looks fantastic. The main issue with model railway curved platforms is generally most curves are reasonably tight due to space limitations, so depending on the curve you are going to have the centre of the carriage nice and close to the platform with both carriage ends a lot further away OR if the curve is the other way, you end up with both ends of the carriage nice and close but the centre of the carriage a lot further away. IMHO there is nothing worse than having your train stop at a platform and seeing your trains too far back from the platform edge.

That's a great tip Barry, with the pencil and coach, I've used pegs for years, for that kind of job, much better than clips which can be to harsh and bruise the card, cheers for now Mark

Hi Barry, just came across your channel. I have a shed layout for summer and a loft layout for winter, like you I'm a novice and a late starter at the model railway game. I look forward to more of your videos. Cheers John.

Hi John, thanks for subscribing. Us chaps, (and I know of one chapess, Jenny Kirk), in sheds have the best of both worlds. My house does not have a loft so I have a cool fan and blow heater in my shed to cope with all seasons, just wish my shed was bigger. Barry

Hi Paddy, thanks for your support. I am at a sticky stage at the moment and spent half of Sunday trying to get something to go right, but it didn't. I hope all is well this week end with a fresh mind. Barry

A good use of the mirrors. I think the thumbs up makes you popular with RU-vid, and thumbs down has the same effect ! It means people have responded to your video.

Thanks Michael, I'll look into the thumbs bit with RU-vid. Mirrors are also good for seeing if the track you are laying is straight.

Better idea is to tape your pencil to the relevant part of the carriage because if you hold it against the carriage you'll get wobble and variation which was why your platform was out. Got to be careful adjusting the track on a curve as you can affect the radius and smooth running.

You are quite right as I found out. It is one of those things that does not stand out too far and I will live with it. I have enough track trouble with the other corner of the layout so the platform & track will just be put down as "Awaiting Engineering Report" and that could take years. Happy modeling and thanks for looking at Castlebridge. Barry.

Smoke and mirrors! Isn't railway modelling a great hobby!? Clever idea for the edging line. ........John
