Every time I listen to Prof Chomsky he comes up with a different set of relevant historical names, places, detailed events, and interrelated lessons to be learned. It's totally astounding to me, this ability to recall such a wealth of information and express it all so eloquently, and in his 90s no less. He is truly a treasure.

@@smotnick I don't know what you mean by Antiers. I also don't know if you're expressing a defeatists attitude or a reactionary one. What I spoke of includes BLM but goes far beyond it. It includes all those fighting for social justice today with conviction and consistency. BLM actually has made a long-term dent, as lasting as anything is in our society. Awareness and public support for police reform is noticeably increased whereas one year ago most people had once again forgotten that police brutality was a problem. BLM is also used as a vague umbrella term for all the popular movements for things like universal healthcare, worker protections, democratic accountability, etc. Combine this with essentially the history of all liberation movements starting with the Hebrew prophetic tradition three thousand years ago and there is a clear way to think about things, namely, it is not an argument for optimism, but it is one for hope and purpose. You don't seem to want to take up either.
@smotnick
@smotnick 3 года назад
@@Sinleqeunnini typo. I meant Antifa groups. But to the point, what we need is something similar to Britain's Labor party, sans hierarchy and bureaucracy. Remember, Dems lost votes because Obama, in all his pandering to special interest wisdom, pretty much ignored Labor which has been a historical-Dem ally. When I mean lost Dem votes, I mean for 2016. The Dem party, in its majority as it stands now, is certainly NOT it, because the majority is still beholden to corporatist interests. (See Dr. West's video on dRUMPf vs. Biden). Reps like AOC and Omar are the minority exception but even people like Booker straddle both sides and are bound to fail one of the masters. Antifa and BLM might be okay, to call attention to immediate socio-political problems, but most haven't read a book of Marx and the solutions to racial profiling/police brutality, lies with non-partisan and courages prosecutors. I'll give you an example, here in San Diego we had like forever, a DA who was a Republican and a lesbian, who continued to give LEOs a fee pass on shootings, use of force, and gropping women. This went on and on, and still city voters would continue to re-elect her. It finally came to the case of one CHP officer, who actions were so openly egregious that she finally thew the book at him. But then her free pases resumes after this case. How different things might have turned out if she had thrown the book at the first cop offender.

Robin Crow The squirrel instinct and the paradise-seeking are absolutely natural instincts. It's as a friend told me. Don't accept the counterfeit version though. We accept cheap substitutes for the real good stuff which is actually free for the taking but others are destroying and taking away the simple and elegant beauty of nature, wildlife, and the simple pleasures like fresh food. As Noam pointed out, we should reflect on all those less fortunate as well.

@@robincrowflies Yes, 'getting stuff' is evil if one is a communist. Then everyone 'shares' or they are killed in prison camps. Government theft on the left is common and often leads to the deaths by starvation or other horrors as the rulers put in power by leftists end up pigging out on everything while starving everyone else like we see today in poor North Korea.

Noam Chomsky speaks to me more than anybody. Why? I tried to be a Jewish Christian for a time. I went to Jerusalem. Then I listened to Chomsky. I remember Romero, because I was raised Catholic. I was only 12 when 2nd Vatican Council hit our little town. I listened to a liberal theological priest speak in our Basilica against American Corporations with the American government behind them and what they were doing to the people he was serving........ Now we have Francis........ Am I a Christian Jew or a Jewish Christian or am I Greek? Hell, I don't know. But I see what's going on and Chomsky is the prophet crying in the wilderness............

Three critical thinkers. What a wonderful discussion on very serious issues. Would have loved to hear this discussion post the passing of Supreme Court Justice RBG. Craziness taken to the extreme needs to be discussed by these great intellectuals. Are we left, as humanity, to one longs last collective crying session. That might be our only recourse. Sit down and cry not for ourselves but for our children.
