Old school footballer ! Tough committed player - gave it 100% - not always pretty to watch - every team needs a player like Nobby Hard tackles - but in those days players got up and got on with it ! RIP❤️
He distributed the ball so brilliantly, look here at the beauty of his pass to Alan Ball which set up England's 3rd (controversial!) goal in the 66 World Cup Final. The ball seems to bounce then check like a snooker cue ball. This skill in itself puts him far ahead of other 'hard men' like Smith, Harris and Jack Charlton. Plus the fact that he was much harder than all of them of course, despite the nonsense still sometimes talked, especially about Smith and Harris.
Thank you! Nobby was one of my heroes. He has been greatly underrated. Fantastic reader of the game, one of the best tacklers that I've seen and indomitable. In my late father's phrase, he left nothing on the pitch. One of the most memorable non-goalscoring incidents I've ever seen was Nobby felling the giant Martin Chivers of Southampton with a steambolt tackle. Nobby, I salute you!
As a Leeds fan it is well known there is a big rivalry between us and man utd .today that should pushed aside to honour a great man utd and England legend RIP Nobby Stiles a true professional
& to think, that as 1 of the original Busby Babes we may have lost him had he been on a certain aflight out of Munich on a certain October night in 1958
I was thinking the same thing. It is possible that Styles was a little quicker and could dribble a little better, although I think Scholes shades it with his shooting, goal scoring and range of passing
