Noble Otter (www.nobleotter.com/) came into the wet shaving community in 2017 with their soap and aftershave offerings. The artisan operates out of the Houston, TX area and focuses on quality ingredients and attempts to tell a story through their scents and label art. The release of Firefighter signifies Noble Otter’s charitable endeavors. Firefighter will help those afflicted by the recent wildfires in the Pacific Northwest. “Proceeds from Firefighter will be going to the American Red Cross to help those affected by the wildfires and also the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation who assist families of fallen firefighters.” Noble Otter can be purchased direct on their website and is also available at third party resellers like Maggard Razors (www.maggardrazors.com/), West Coast Shaving (www.westcoastshaving.com/) and Top of the Chain (topofthechain.ca/).
Firefighter features a robust blend of; Grapefruit, Lavender, Red Cedarwood, Water, Sandalwood and Ambergris. This accord can be classified as a woody aquatic. The fragrance is beautiful and very well blended. The accord opens with a soft grapefruit and soft lavender, before being grounded the woody cedarwood and aquatic notes, the scent is very aromatic and classy. Mrs. Ruds enjoys this scent for most occasions, including the date night application. Strength of scent is mid-to-strong both off the puck and once lathered. Try That Soap (trythatsoap.com/) recommends Stirling Soap Co. - Ramblin Man as a similar scent.
Firefighter is offered in Noble Otter’s v3 tallow base. The ingredients can be found here: www.nobleotter.com/collection.... In general, Noble Otter is an underrated soap base. This base is on the firmer side and really is easy to load and lather. The ease of use is a stand out point for this soap base. A properly dialed in lather with Noble Otter should resemble the consistency of greek yogurt, favoring density to volume. Both primary and residual slickness stand with the top of the food chain soap bases. Post shave also competes well when considering the recent movement by artisans to a luxurious, skin rich post. This base is an overall stellar performer that leaves the user wanting for nothing. Considering my experience with Noble Otter v3, the ShaveScore assigned is100. For similar performance in a soap base, I suggest, Wholly Kaw Siero.
