I get why people don't like this song, but I honestly love it. It's one of those songs that keeps getting better with each listen. Very pumped for the new album
@@strek45 yeah i didnt have a very good first impression at first, but tbh whenever they release the first single for a new album ive never liked it on the first listen. still hyped for the rest of the album and im starting to come around to this the more i listen to it
Yep. No one gets it on the first listen. This song is 10/10. But you will never get that on the first listen because it is so complex it sounds simple.
@@aaronbryant7240 right? So many people hated it at first, now only the people that liked their early singles still hate it. But we already know they don’t listen to the rest of the discography. Knowing the psychedelic influences they had with this album made the song make perfect sense in my eyes.
For me the problem with this song is that its a concept album and its a middle of the tracklist song, its definetly a grower and it gets stuck in your head, but I feel like I will learn to love it more when the full album comes out.. I need the whole painting to judge the song...
Although I must say I am still disappointed with the song. Maybe I was expecting something different but it was a still is underwhelming for me. My biggest problem is Matt’s singing idk why tf he sounds that way lmao (this is coming from a massive A7X fan
@@noahhamel6689why does matt sound like that and you say your a massive A7X fan don't want to sound like a dick , anyway check out a7x hellfest 2018 you'll see why they sound off to you , they did to me first time but if you listen to the isolated vocals they sound better , personally his vocals are better in this than they were in the whole stage album
I was weirded out by it initially, but it really grew on me. Idk, they have said multiple times in the past that they don't want to do the same thing again and again, so i was already prepared to be disappointed, and i looked into it as an experience rather than a song if that makes sense. Rythm guitar was def lacking, lead was impressive as always cause Gates, and the song structure was really intriguing. They are approaching this in a really unique way and honestly i kinda like that. They aren't trying to make "bangers", just unique pieces of music (tho they have said there are some trash metal songs in the new album, and i'm excited for that)
I'm in the 20%, baby! I really REALLY love this song. It's very different from their previous things, but all their albums are different from one another. Personally really looking forward to the new album if this is the sound they're going for!
4 weeks after this video i can safely say that this song may not latch onto you at first, but when it does, it doesnt let go, but i absolutely understand the hate for it, people want riffs, sick guitar solos, and other classic a7x stuff, this stuff is definitely an acquired taste
Fan since WoTS and StST days... The Rev is THE REASON I ever picked up drumsticks. This song is fucking FIRE to me. Since first listen and it just gets better
It's definitely a weird song, while I don't think it's one of their better songs I can appreciate that they are trying new things even if it doesn't stick. Music video is pretty cool too. I would be disappointed if the whole album sounded like this but I guess we will see when it comes out.
I think the most important thing is knowing what you want to hear as a fan, for some people its riffs and standard metal stuff that has been done 1 million times. To me I value originality and trying to do new things and so I listened to this with an open mind and I have to be honest I didn't like it at first but after sitting with it for a bit I like it now, it's like nothing I've ever heard before and there's something special about that. If someone doesn't like this song or the album then it's fine by me, everyone's different and it's all about personal preference
The fact that they never have released the best song on an album as a single first means there’s likely better songs than this on there, which is plain awesome.
The depth of this song is just extraordinary. People want to attach labels to songs, and if you came at this expecting the typical metal core song, this isn’t it, but it’s completely new territory for A7X and it’s fucking awesome
This album is going to be an album where you have to listen from start to finish; so that’s why I think a lot of people find the song weird cause this song is like track 6 on the album.
I think lots of bands do this lately, they release a song as a single that feels weird without the rest of the album Gojira did it a few times with their last album
I think you nailed the reason why many metalheads didn't like it. We indeed look for the riff, expect it and love it. But somone (like in my case) who listens to other genres where there's no 'riff' it doesn't shine because of its absence. In fact, it didn't even registered in my mind until you said it.
they said that they wont make any classic metal songs like they used to. zacky even said “we did make it, pantera and metallica made it. go listen to them, they are great”
@@giovanni5954 No it wasn’t said even close to that The thing about zacky and Metallica and Pantera was about that they don’t wanna make any normal traditional metal songs, because they had already done it, and you can listen to the old them and to Metallica and Pantera and more if you just want the ol’ simple Metal.
I’ve waited for this video since the song dropped!! I love this song, but I gotta admit it took me some time to process it It’s very complicated and “deep”
To me the people who absolutely hate this song just want the same rinse and repeat songs we’ve been getting from bands for years. This whole album shows it. Oh darn an artist actually wants to express music the way they want to instead of being a sell out
My guy go listen to it, and watch some vocal coaches break it down, this song is controversial and they knew it would be, but honestly its an ear worm, the more i listen the more i love it.
Your videos have shown up in my recommended so regularly since I first found out about Rocksmith, I didn't even notice I wasn't subscribed until you mentioned it.
Man I don’t get the hate on this song but I am also one of the fanboys he mentioned. 😂 shit is dope and I won’t lie it took 2-3 listens but it’s a fucking experience.
The music video’s imagery is amazing for the song. And for me, after a couple of listens it’s stuck on repeat now. Definitely well put together while being new but still their style 🤘
If you ever watch the interview with matt shadows talking about this song.He makes mention that they want people to literally have the idea of what the fuck did i just listen to. Also that this song in context of the whole album will make more sense rather than a stand alone song.
I am definitely a A7X fan. I will admit this song is weird and a little underwhelming for such a long wait, but looking at the band and kinda where they have been and what they have been trying to do and dip their toes into it isn't utterly shocking this is what they came out with. I will say that after The Stage, I figured they'd either go back to their old style or go into something like this. I hope the next album is a mix of both.
I really like this one, I think its one of those magically simple songs, and least guitar-wise, the main riff at least. If theres one thing I don't like its Matt's vocal tone, it seems like he aged 20 years or he forgot to stretch or something, idk its just kind of unclear? I'm not really sure how to describe it. Other than that, banger, its groovy, its NODDERS.
this is a song that will continually get better with each listen, its one off those that you have to let it simmer in your playlist for a few listens before you make an opinion on it.
Life is but a dream is an amazing album. Its all perspective but the concept and emotions they put into this album spoke to me on a deep level. It feels highly personal.
The concept of this song came from them taking DMT, so yeah it is out there. I personally like their city of evil 2005 sound the best, but the band said that they are not trying to create the same thing over and over again. I respect that and I still like their newer stuff.
Song is amazing, jsut because it isnt a showcase song you hear in radio doesnt mean its bad. Your thinking about music from a 1iq standpoint, your not listening too the musical ideas and emotions you get. Your not THINKING about this song, your just listening and thats not enough. This song is actually one of their best songs, and that solo is easily one of the best ever made. I didnt like it first time, but when you actually listen too it more than once you understand the song
I don't think people understand that avenged sevenfold has never made an album the same. we should never expect the same from them. they have been and written many forms of music not just "metalcore" i absolutely love this song and I can't wait to hear the rest of the album. also I think the solo is possibly one of syns best.
For me it felt a lot like The Stage at first, where I wasn't sure on it and gave it a few more listens and then it grew on me. Definitely looking forward to the rest of the album.
I get why some people hate this song, but I really like it. People complain it's really repetitive...like, listen to 50% of Gojira's stuff, and that stuff slaps (songs where 1/3 to 1/2 of the track is a single continuous riff, often with only minor variations, and it's not a particularly interesting riff). It's not so much about the riff as it is about the soundscape, and I can definitely respect that, but it's not for everybody. Nobody is not a masterpiece like Nightmare or The Stage, and I do agree it is a very weird song, but I think it's pretty cool.
The song lyrics depict a journey of self-discovery and spiritual enlightenment. The protagonist's experience of feeling "beyond the frame" and floating "like a feather through space and time outside a dream" suggests a sense of transcending beyond the physical realm and exploring the metaphysical aspects of existence. Throughout the song, the singer moves from a state of detachment and unfamiliarity to moments of self-awareness and awakening, eventually embracing their inner divinity and unity with the universe. The refrain of "I am the sun" reinforces the idea that the protagonist is discovering their true source of light and power. They also come to accept opposing aspects of themselves, such as being "alive" and "dead" at the same time. This duality acknowledges the interconnectedness of life and death, and highlights the idea that understanding our existence goes beyond physical perceptions. The imagery of "shattering the skies," "tearing the fabric," and ascending "a thousand floors into the ether" further strengthens the theme of transcending the physical world and diving into the realm of spirituality. The song ultimately conveys a message of letting go of one's ego and embracing a unified existence. As the protagonist releases the constraints of their former identity or "name," they are finally able to see themselves as part of a greater cosmic whole. spirituality, transcendence, and interconnectedness. The lyrics encourage listeners to embark on their own journey of enlightenment and embrace the vast, universal connection that lies within and beyond the physical world.
The song is not radio friendly, it is also not the common pop/rock composition. The structure of the song is experimental. I didn't like it that much when I first heard it, and I am an A7x fan for more than a decade, but it gotten better to my ears after listening a few more times. I would say, this song, and the upcoming album would be a banger, a refreshing take, especially these days that music are hyper produced, just the common music composition. We should be thankful that A7x is trying something different, but still not steering far away from their signature sound, or else, their songs would be boring because it's just similar to their other albums/songs, or even with other bands.
I did lose my mind at first😂 But the more I listen the more I dig it, and as a guitar player that solo had me geeked. Definitely sad about the lack of riffage though
That’s why it’s art. Not gonna be for everyone. I like seeing them grow and explore other facets of music and not stay the same every album. First time I heard it I was like what? Then it grew on me. You can take literally ANY song ever recorded and someone out there will say it sucks. That’s what makes music and art so diverse and interesting.
the song is definitely gonna feel a lot better in the context of the album. it took a few listens for me to like it but i can understand why people wouldnt like it
Love how you got 69% and loved the song so much 😂 8:47 as I fan I felt this. I like the song but I expected more from them in terms of guitar harmonies and Melodie’s
this song is really amazing and it was really bold of them releasing an experimental song like this as a big almost mainstream band, and I think the main reason people might hate on it is because they're not used to hearing different things in music, but that doesnt make the song bad or weird in a negative way
All these people saying they didn't like the song at first but it grew on them - I enjoyed it since the beginning. I just love A7X. As long as it isn't Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. This song is beautiful.
I’m pretty sure it wasn’t single note bends but ya you are right. But I still really really like it. And I think the vocals sound great. They sit in and not above the mix
I did not like the song on the first few listens. Liked the main riff and the solo and that’s just about it. After listening to it several times, I love everything about it. It sounds so simple, but there’s so much going on sonically. Definitely a grower though for sure
It’s a song that gets better the more you listen to it. I think it sounds really sick tbh and I can appreciate a more simplistic song in terms of A7X and Metal in general
Shadows: "Pirouette with divinity in a dance we shared before. 'Someone dissolution' this is 'I am all' as 'I am none.' Here we fly so high..." Chainbrain: "Fly so high, epic lyric " 🥴
I genuinely love this song. It's fucking weird, but it fucking grooves. At least you can't call it unoriginal. It also strikes me as a really natural progression from The Stage, and I can really hear it in the solo. The lyrics are getting deeper into the philosophy that The Stage started creeping towards, and they're knocking down the door of writing some weird fuckin' music. I love it, and I can't wait for how ridiculous I'm hoping this album is. PS Brooks is the real star on this track
I waited for years for a new song and when they posted it the teaser on Instagram I was so hype. Then I heard it as soon as it came out and I was like wtf is this? I thought Matt sounded strange and sounded like the voice was extremely odd and sounded very painful and forced. I was pretty disappointed. But then I've heard it on the radio and on spotify since and for whatever reason I have come to really really love it. I think my brain just couldn't grasp it at first cause it was so different and not what I expected. I will day that I agree with the riff point though. While the guitar solo is sick, the actual guitar stuff going on at any other point is pretty lame. That sucks obviously and I hope every song on the album is not minimalistic in guitar like this, but for the one song I've come to not care. It is like what I've come to feel about modern Metallica. Like Lux Aeterna is such an awesome song but like everything in recent years, Kirk's solo is ass, but the song otherwise is awesome and so I like it either way. Anyway this is an absolute TED talk with opinions that have stayed in my brain so uhh 8/10 for me on this one
A7x is my favorite band. But this song really does blow. Synyster Gates recently did an interview talking about this album. Dude said he wanted less tapping patterns and less solos with random notes. This song had both a random machine gun spray of notes in the Solo and the tapping while a complex pattern.. Was still a pattern. My favorite band. Very disappointed. I hope the rest of the album is nothing like this song.
