I was big into European folk tales as kid. It is interesting how different African folk tales. The biggest difference is Europeans always like to make sure to "other" their villains. About the same time it is revealed that European folk character is evil you will find out that they are monster or step relative. Other and evil go hand and hand. But in Africa it feels like the evil lives right up close with you. Ike was Obi's brother. In European folk tale Ike would be a step brother, business partner, or at least a childhood friend that had been gone for years. And in European folk tale Ugomma would have just had a happily ever after, maybe even married the king's son. There would be no discussion of Ugomma facing unjust revenge for her association with her uncle. Frankly it makes African folk tales feel more realistic.
