The Power Wagon is very much a purpose-built vehicle, which is why RAM didn't give it a higher payload and tow rating. As an off-road OEM truck, it's in a class all by itself.
not exactly , yes it is purpose built you are correct. The factory 2" lift kit uses a dual rate spring front and rear . these springs do not provide the safe stability of heavy loads. you can use air bags and the truck is then capable of your regular 4x4 2500 weight ratings , because everything under that truck is factory Ram 2500 frame , axels , all standard 2500 Ram. HOWEVER , if you overload from what is stamped for weight you will void any warranty work associated from going past your rating tag. and as JB says "weight watch" stay in spec.
The reason for the tires on the Power Wagon being what they are is that they are load range D. Most big chain tire stores won’t install a lower rated tire on a truck. Theses tires allow you to go up to 35s or 37s without running into snags at the tire shop.
I'm sure there are other reasons too, like bumper height. Now you can fit 37's without adding a lift and have better clearance. If it came from the factory with 35's or 37's then the bumpers would have to be lower to meet NHTSA.
It's amazing how dealerships are saying base price for a Power Wagon is $62,000, which is a lie!! Call the Manufacturering plant and they will tell you a base Power Wagon is $51,000. The payload is actually 2,600 lbs and tow rating is actually 15,000 lbs. I've noticed my Power Wagon can tow and haul a lot more then what they say, I also have load F tires and Carli suspension. My suspension springs are rated for the Cummins so they are stiffer then the normal Power Wagon springs.
Power Wagon is the first 4x4 truck offered to the public in 1946 but Dodge 4x4 trucks goes back to 1934. Chrysler also at one time was the sole provider of ALL fullsize 4x4 trucks with Chryslers New process gear transfer cases making Ford and Chevy 4x4. My PW is a 2015 AEV tows my 10,000lbs trailer off road very well in soft beach and dune sand.
33 inch tires are small for hard core off core enthusiasts, I drive my 21 PW 80% on the rooad and 20% off road, (farm) it's a blast to drive, keep in mind that road handling, tracking, mpg, and stopping distance is superior with the 33s in my application, and 33s are the right tire for the way I drive, and it handles my trailer and tractors just fine.
@bigseff23 that's what I Drive. Yiu sacrifice all the luxurious gadgets but you get better payload. It's all about preference. For me. Idc about the leather and all the gadgets
Just bought one with a sticker of 75….. nicest truck I’ve ever had and this will be number 7. Mine is a level 2 and white. What I like about this truck is no chrome and descent wheels plus the winch. LOVE YOUR REVIEWS
I like the rock rails. On my Laramie, I had those grandpa style chrome fixed running boards - these went off quickly, and was always looking for some nice replacement. I also do not like the TRX boards - but these rock rails are just fine and protect the vehicle's sides. I also actually like they are fixed.
Tires have lots to due with tow ratings. the more side wall the more sway. The softer tread for off road the more sway. The higher the truck and higher center of gravity the more sway.
Tow haul mode does not deactivate the MDS. Only the gear selecter does. mine is a MY22 but I wanted the manual shifter so it’s $4,500 less 😁 with level 2. I would have went with level 3 but no manual shifter can be picked. PW to me must have manual shifter in my eyes. The upgraded leather would have been nice but it’s a truck
I get it if you’re going off the numbers. The fact is it will handle substantially more than that. There is a RU-vidr called The Getty Adventures or something like that and he has a great video that really shows how underrated the payload capabilities are on the Powerwagon. As far as towing, I’d say it’s the Hemi that holds it back as far as towing on the heavier side, not the PowerWagon package.
@@slidewide1999 the 6.4 hemi can tow almost double in the 2500 non powerwagon version , I get what you’re saying but the department of transportation doesn’t care what it can actually haul or tow.
Those 33" Good years are Garbage , and those Billsteins are junk as well . Fox shocks or kings combined with a Quality tire is a day and night difference in ride and traction. sand , wet boat ramps. snow those Goodyear tires are just crap. < i think the rubber compound is just to hard. and 33s are just to small a diameter for this truck. worn out Short choppy Freeway sections washboard roads and you will hate the Billsteins that are equipped on the truck. Other than that these trucks are fantastic, A few small upgrades and there very capable machines I do love mine
with these trucks getting higher in price which in result leads to longer terms on the loans for people. ALL MANUFACTURERS should at least offer there warranty bumper to bumper for 5 years 75000 miles at the minimum period!!!!!!!!!
@@JB_WhoWork I understand that part, but you'll max out payload long before your tongue weight is done. Seems like an HD truck should have higher specs.
Uconnect5 is absolutely horrendous…. Uconnect4 worked 10x better , i have constant issues and problems with my 22 Ram 2500 Laramie always freezes and screen will freeze black until computer resets and constantly has Service Uconnect box see dealer message but dealer has no answer for it just an absolute joke my Wifes 21 Powerwagon with the Uconnect4 dosnt have any of these problems …
For me as a RAM supporter, the power wagon and the TRX are both disappointments because of major lack of payload and towing capabilities. In regards to the power wagon, I'll just Google or RU-vid people in the trucks going up cliffs, ridges and hills. In regards to the TRX, if I want to go fast, I'll either buy a motorcycle or Tesla lol 😂
Your comment is irrelevant. Power wagon is a ultimate off road truck as well as the trx. So if you were buying a truck to be a truck, a regular 2500 or 3500 is the way to go. A power wagon is truly made for off roading

I own one rides like a frickin Cadillac off_road. Great family vehicle if you're into outdoorsy stuff. Every other truck I've drive rattled my brains out.
