fdfd dfdfdfds Thanks very much Voxma. One great reason to put the voltages in the video description is because I failed to return them to the graph description in the video (I'll have them in both in future videos to be thorough). I really appreciate the support from TheSickness. The Financial and Informational assistance is second to none. I'll take all the support I can get, and with more support I can do much more with this channel than I could otherwise (at least that's the theory :P). I hope you enjoy many more videos to come, and I'll do my best to continuously improve them.

„...wait let me get something out of my trousers...“😂 Very consistent high quality review. I like how you addressed Noctua directly in the first criticism „same name different specs“ part, must have got a good tip there^^ The bit at the end with the conclusion seemed a bit repetitive, but we’ve gone through that. Quite impressive how the D9 held up with the big boys here
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 5 лет назад
Thanks very much, I'll keep at cutting the criticism repetition down. I'll keep it to once in the main video and in some circumstances in the conclusion to keep it all light. The D9L was a great performer. It's got a pretty high fin density in comparison to the larger coolers which is probably helping out quite a lot. It's weird that I'm releasing videos that I started working on 2 weeks ago, I'm not working on the Thermalright Macho Rev.B and I'm yet to publish the Mugen 5 review :P. I've also got a great idea for future Livestreams and videos that I think you told me to do ages ago but I'm only just getting on board with haha (I'm awful, I'll get better eventually :P). Anyway, thanks for the constructive critique as always, much appreciated!

AV Techy haha yeah it’s strange commenting on two week „old“ vids as we already worked out things in the meantime, but well it’s the one up. Hmm then I’ll be looking forward to the next stream then, no idea wich of my random ramblings you could be meaning^^ Definitely excited for some cases soon as the coolers are rolling out slowly but surely.

I went from a full blown watercooled setup...to an AIO...to this.And i couldnt be happier. The watercooled setup was solid but i hated the maintenence plus i was upgrading graphics cards and i needed new blocks...the AIO which was a top of the line at the time a Corsair H110i GT failed within the first 2 months.The pump died,the head overheated,it snapped from the heat since its a pos plastic and liquid went all over my graphics card to the bottom of the case and to my hand.I was fortunate to have the case on top of my desk so i didnt loose any component but i lost any confidence on those AIO.They are garbage and there is no telling when they fail. So i went with the Noctua NH-D15S for the peace of mind.They are bulletproof,maintenence free and they handle reasonable overclocks.Only downside i hated the look but since then i upgraded to the new Noctua Chromax black fan and the Chromax heatsink cover and now its perfect though if you add those things for the look it gets pretty expensive in the end.

Great video. I’m a recent 20yr Noctua fan along side ThermalRight since their D15 130 Extreme (huge 4 pipe). This (off set) model was a big welcome in 2015 for us on X99 ASUS so it cleared the top most inner card slot. The height of 65mm is not the ram but is just the clearance from base plate no matter what u put it on so on Intel 2066 for example we get to add 7.5mm for CPU mounted top IHS then subtract 2mm (average) for DIMM slot off PCB. So expect 5-6mm for those clearance heights. But to update, because of that Bertie base to 65mm it slips right into many ITX in almost any orientation u want. (: like your review

Great video as every one i seen on your channel, you presentation is very profesional and well done. Just FYI usually the S versions is the asymmetrical design of the pipes, making it not overlap with the 1st PCIe slot (in most scenarios), there is also NH-U14 and NH-U14S, both sell with one fan, the difference, as with the D15S, is the pipe arrangement being asymmetrical growing more toward the top. The single fan was more toward keep it cheaper, $80 is already on the expensive side, reaching $100 gets too close to AIO. Testing i wouldnt change anything you already do, its very well done overall. As you do more tests you will find that performance between big coolers is marginal, and in most cases is a degree or two (with in similar size and design), that said, some of them do work better a lower rpms, and some do have better fans, so testing 12V or full pwm or full rpms sometimes hides this sort of things, not saying this so you change your testing, as i know its a ton of time on testing and editing.

Pabula Thanks very much! I've heard a few theories behind the "S" part of the naming scheme now, and I have no idea which reason is correct. It would be great if Noctua could publish the naming scheme to help us all out :P. The testing is such a pain to solidify as you've mentioned. Ideally I could publish results for 50% and 100% speed, but time wise it's not ideal. It's great you understand the dilemma I'm in, not everyone does :). Something I really enjoy about gathering large data pools is seeing where the little efficiencies in designs lay. The Scythe Mugen 5 and Thermalright reviews should help us further understand which designs really improve performance. Anyway I'll stop myself there as I can go on for way too long. Thanks for helping out with the naming scheme and adding your 2 cents, it's much appreciated!

I have this CPU cooler on mi i9-9900K and my CPU temps never get above 65C under load and average in the low 40s C. It was actually cumbersome getting installed though...took quite a bit of force as I could not get both screws to align at first, but I'm happy with the fan and its very quiet too.

*Tell me the best motherboard and case for Noctua NH-D15 cooler.* There should be sufficient space in the case and for *RAM installation* and a big GPU on the motherboard. I will go with *Asus or MSI RTX 2070 Super (3 fans).* It thought of going with the case *Phantek Enthoo Evolv X* but I don't think that's a good idea with the big cooler. I also thought of going with *Asus Rog Strix z390-e (Wi-Fi) motherboard* but I'm too confused.😕 My CPU is i7 9700k. *Somebody help if possible...*

Hey man I have one question. Do you think this will be a good idea to put another NF A15 fan on the other heatsink (closest to the RAM) in order to increase performance? Space isn't an issue but do you think it will do any good?
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 5 лет назад
Based on my testing of other coolers, I wouldn't bother. You might see 3°C or so cooler temps under full load, but apart from that there won't be much more of an improvement. To get an idea of the temperature difference, check out my testing of the Arctic Freezer 34 eSports DUO. In that video I did dual and single fan testing and saw a limited benefit to running two fans. I'd link it for you here but I'm typing on my phone at the moment, but you should be able to find it on the channel. Let me know if you have any more queries and I'll see if I can help you out!

One thing you did not mention that makes the NH-D15S different than the NH-D15. The D15S model has an offset base. This is different from the original and increases compatibility by ensuring that the D15S does not block a PCI Express slot, something that was a potential issue with the D15. Otherwise, this is an excellent, very well done review.

Last Second Bloomer Ahh yes, the top down coolers. I've checked out a couple of those from Noctua (L9i and L9x65). They're great performers for their size. I've got a few Top Down coolers to check out, the Dark Rock TF is certainly one to look out for. Noctua have their fair share of them too that are of interest.

Also had mild overclock whit 2500k 4.6ghz and 1.325vcore and temps are low all the time, i used Thermal Grizlys paste instead what it came whit .

I believe like the Noctua U14S you can add a second Noctua fan, (either a 140mm or 120mm) I would guess that would give even better results.
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 4 года назад
Yeah I think that's right. As to its performance impact, you might see a few degrees improvement at full load and speed on most CPUs, but the reality is it's not like the single fan is really struggling to push air through the tower. There might be a reduction of anything up to 100rpm (most likely less) due to the friction of the air through the tower, so another fan would just help to maintain the top speed of the airflow and reduce the fan speed loss due to that friction. I think the best reason for having a second fan is for its looks, and for those who need that extra top end performance where a few degrees could create a barrier form them achieving their goal. Worth noting I've tested the performance for dual and single fans with the Arctic Freezer eSports DUO, might be worth checking out if your interested in the results of that testing.

Noctua is top notch. i had the nh-u14s for i7 8700k for a year. i wanted to get a bigger cooler and went with the dark rock pro 4 on impulse. the install process was not bad with the dark rock but nowhere near the ease of installing the nh-u14s. i constantly had doubts when installing the dark rock, i did not feel the same confidence about the install process and the install parts dark rock uses. Dark Rock is a great cooler but nowhere near the quality of the Noctua. I ended up buying the nh-d15s today and will swap the dark rock out.

The D15 dont use 140mm fans but more like special 150mm fans with 120mm mounting holes which explains the name "The NF-A15 is a premium quality quiet 140mm fan with a round frame that complies with Noctua’s AAO (Advanced Acoustic Optimisation) standard. The NF-A15’s frame features 120mm mounting holes (105mm spacing) and has been enlarged to 150mm width in order to provide superior performance on today’s high-end CPU coolers. " Which means it moves more air and this might also explain why it makes more noise than the Be Quiet when at the same high RPM
@Pekeliini
@Pekeliini 5 лет назад
I think Noctua has "special" fans in all of their coolers. NF-F12 PWM you buy standalone is not the same that comes with NH-U12S either. It's faster spinning 1500rpm model that comes with the cooler. Not sure why tho.
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 5 лет назад
They certainly do. After the last conversation I had with them (about the A9x14) it's a problem that's been brought to their attention to a point where their future fan series with different speeds are going to have something like "HS" at the end of their names to stand for "High Speed". We'll see if they stick to this, I hope they do since it makes purchasing additional fans a pain if you have to drop one to a lower spec. Anyway, thanks for checking this one out. From memory I think you advised me on the naming scheme during the Low Profile Cooler video, much appreciated!
@LastSecBloomer
@LastSecBloomer 5 лет назад
It's not the case of "special" fans, it's just that they have different variants of same fans but they didn't name them appropriately. Their newer Redux and IPPC-Industrial lines of fans have their RPM clearly labeled (for example, "NF-P14s Redux-1500 PWM" that I recently bought) but older series like those yellowish/brown ones that we all know and love, don't have the RPM in their name and that creates confusion. They clearly put faster RPM fans on coolers in order to move more air through them...
@MrEkg98
@MrEkg98 4 года назад
The only real way to improve performance will be to seal the unit in a duct to eliminate pressure loss outside of the fins. Similar to a turbojet vs a turboprop
@westcliff23
@westcliff23 5 лет назад
Noctuas reasoning for selling the single NF-A15 with a different spec (1200rpm) to the ones that come with the heatsink is, because if you pair it with the 1500rpm one on the NH-D15S, it would reduce the resonance 2 NF-A15 at 1500rpm would cause. If you want 2 1500rpm NF-A15 you could buy the Chromax version of that fan. Weirdly it comes with 1500rpm stock.

Hah, finally someone who can answer me this question. Thanks. :D Weirdly there is no point to get a second fan for the NH-D15 coolers...even under OC scenarios its like Delta 1°C with a second fan.

Will this be adequate for an i5 9600k?
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 5 лет назад
Yes, there shouldn't be any problems there. This cooler is very similar to the Dark Rock 4 in terms of performance, and the Dark Rock 4 is rated for a 200W TDP CPU. The 9600K is a 95W TDP CPU, but under a stress test with an overclock I'd expect it to hit as high as 150W, maybe a touch more under the right circumstances. Of course at 150W power consumption it will be hot, but not hot enough to cause any damage. Under gaming style loads there shouldn't be any thermal throttling with this cooler though.
@cassidywest5539
@cassidywest5539 5 лет назад
@@AVTechy Thank you for the quick reply! I will not overclock (at least not planning to). But my concern is that in the cooler's "stock" config it will pull hot air into the fan from the first tower. Does it have impact? Is it a better option to get a second fan for it or is it perfectly fine as is?
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 5 лет назад
No problem, a bit slower on this one though. Don't worry about the Dual Tower design, the air flowing through the first tower won't reach anywhere near its thermal capacity limit by the time it's gone out the back of the second tower. This is (dare I say it) one of the best Air coolers on the market. If this couldn't cool a 9600K, I'm not sure how much bigger the cooler would have to get to do so. Let me know if you have any more queries, and I'll do what I can to help out.

(it's in polish but the components care easily searchable on google) www.morele.net/komputery/podzespoly-komputerowe/procesory-45/?konfigurator=konfigurator-zestawu-komputerowego&configId=395215 Ram is VERY expensive right now so I didn't choose a very fast one but since I have 2133mhz now it still will be an upgrade for me, also my current gpu is a gtx 1070 and I'm not changing it now.

I hope you know theirs was a no d14 and the d15 is the second version of it

But the number is supposed to signify the size of the fan in centimetres. Why have a system and use it 90% of the time, only to randomly stop using it. Surely the D14-2 would maintain the system as intended.

I just wonder why the heatpipes are not made of copper. This cooler is not cheap.

They are made of copper, they're just nickel plated as well. But I can see why you'd think they might not have been.

@@AVTechy .. thank you so much for your prompt reply. As I find this cooler also visualy attractive, I'm going to get this one for my mini ITX board :D I also find the Silverstone AR07 beautiful, but the Noctua NH-D15S has quite a bit more cooling potential. Thanks for your high quality content, by the way.

@@MichaelMolli No problem, glad I could help out. The NH-D15S (and the D15 more so) have the better cooling potential then the AR07 mainly down to their sheer size. So if you're looking for silence for an insane overclock those will be the best bet to go for. Let me know if you have any queries, and thanks for checking out this video!

Keeps my overclocked i7-8700K in really small, cramped itx build cool and has done for ~ 2 years now. I bunged black Chromax fan and covers onto it - makes it look half decent : uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/PbCbt6

The S is for "single" (fan).
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 5 лет назад
It could, but that's inconsistent with all other single fan coolers. It makes sense since there's a dual fan version of this cooler therefore the S singles out this version, but it's just inconsistent with coolers like the D9L which for all we know they may release a dual fan version of that and call it the D9L-D since they coildnt revert the old model to an S. It seems like an afterthought of the naming scheme. It's not the end of the world, but if you're going to go for a specific naming scheme, it would make sense to nail all this things down so future variations don't have to have a modifier crammed in and invalidated the previous naming scheme (D15S - D9L).

I thought I was the only one who's bothered with the naming scheme.

Nothing to do with smart slimsilent.just the 1st pcie slot available compared regular d15. Do your homework beforeyou start a review!!!!! Worthless video just for making money with added links!!!
@AVTechy

Don't you mean just a single fan compared to a regular D15? Do your homework yeah buddy? Honestly, if that's the thing you're complaining about, I think it's a pretty clean review. Sure I didn't research the name, but that's probably the least important part of a review, the cooler itself and how it works and performs is far more important. Of course I've just opened an opportunity for you to slate the video with things you didn't like, so maybe I'll beat you to the punch. Sure it's not the best video out there, I could pull this one off a lot better now, but it's filled with useful info and a lot of shots to give the viewer a thorough impression of what the cooler is like. And the point about money... Yeah I'm making loads off this, it's great! Just kidding, I think I've made maybe £20 off this video for the couple of weeks of effort and my spare time I put into it. All about the money, for sure!

@@AVTechy no not because of single fan. D15 can be with 1 or 2 fans installed. But always occupy the 1st pcie standard slot. With newer models this could be blocking the way to your nmve. D15S is assymetricly built so it wont block 1st pcie like the regular d15 does. D15s comes with 1 fan but a 2nd fan can be upgraded. You did not highlight this big and only difference. I fact your motherboard was better off with regular d15. You did not even notice that🤣
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 3 года назад
Ahh, well considering I wasn't reviewing the D15 I guess it's not surprising I didn't notice it. I'd also miss differences if I was reviewing other products I didn't have in my hands. As for reviewing the product I had in my hands, the D15S, I'd say it's not a bad review. I'm sure if I was reviewing the D15 I'd notice how much it blocks the top PCIe slot and talk about it, but it's hard to notice the lack of a issue when it's not....well, an issue. I think that closes this round of berating a reviewer, onto the next round!
