As a big fan of Nirvana, which Noel is as well, I can totally understand what he was saying about Kurt embedding depression in the youth's minds. But I think Kurt's earnestness is one of the things that made him so beloved and such a great artist.
I love Oasis but Noel did kind of use the same damn strumming rhythm in a lot of songs. Lots of similar sounding songs. Great songs but Oasis isn't super eclectic.
I met Noel and the band minus Liam at 3am in the morning walking down the street in Amsterdam during What's the Story Morning Glory tour. I will never forget that. They were all very cordial and great guys. Love Oasis
Wait a minute, I just realized that Noel and Liam could become two of the greatest mumble rappers to ever have lived. Nobody has ever had a chance at understanding either one of them.
@EuropeDP Agreed, but where you grow up is equally important is it not? if they grew up in the middle of india then they wouldn't have been the coolest mancs ever would they?
born AND raised in Manchester, so that makes them British, NOT Irish. If their parents were from Mars, would that make them Martian? Irish ancestry/heritage, but not Irish.
4:38 noels summery is so fucking genius. Bring back the clothes, the hair, the attitude, the honesty, and the fucking tunes. I was too young to see or understand oasis in their prime, and nothing compares now.
His opinion on rock n roll is so on spot...Rock n roll means to have a free soul and definitely all these poser tattoo bands killed rock n roll...that's the only thing in this video with which I agree
"You can argue and debate about the execution of an artistic decision but you cant question the artistic decision". I quite liked that quote. Art is whatever emotion or aesthetic you are trying to portray. Its the execution of how well you convey that emotion that can be argued.
Stumped how you left out dance music.. Noel was always an open dance music fan.. Whether it was him singing for tge Chemical Brothers, playing guitar for Goldie, or simply listening to Leftfield's first album
I feel exactly the same as Noel Gallagher about jazz, but I know music lovers who are obsessed with it so there must be more that we’re just not getting.
Regarding Nirvana's 'I hate myself and I want to die' - Noel has evidently never suffered from depression and he obviously doesn't have self esteem issues either that often make people feel this way. Kids (and adults!) who feel this way can probably relate a lot more to Grunge lyrics than Britpop lyrics. Except that he said that Oasis aren't Britpop. 😁
Everyone has suffered depression in their life, it's how you deal with it that defines a person. Do you A). Do the easy thing and let it take over you which includes listening to depressing grunge music. Or B). Get up and do something about it by understanding that life takes a modicum effort to be enjoyable. I know where I stand.
The only thing Noel supports is whatever Noel is playing currently. And that's basically country music now. He's not rock n roll enough anymore otherwise he'd be on stage with Liam
RLX Films ever hear Noel's covers of oasis songs now. His take on supersonic and champagne supernova sound almost country, it's kind of ridiculous. Liam himself just recently said in interview that Noel doesn't want to be a rock and roll artist, that's part of the reason he's choosing to stay with the high flying birds. And also, according to Liam, and quite accurately I'd say, is that Noel's used to being the center of attention now, but if he got back on stage with his brother he'd be "a wallflower"
@@CMFOT literal peace activist but ok lmao guess hitting ur gf once in college as a teen makes u a asshole for the rest of ur life? even if u become a literal feminist later on?
Does this guy like anything other than the Beatles and his own music 😂? I like him and I like his attitude but it seems like he doesn't like any music which kinda makes inspiration a bit harder
The Jam, Sex Pistols, Slade, The Smiths, Nirvana, Neil Young, David Bowie, Paul Weller. But yeah his taste is quite limited even Paul himself listened to wider genres after The Jam.
I like jazz but pretty much only as a piano, bass and drums trio like Chick's Akoustic Band and Bill Evans. Something relaxing about that sound. Also, love Buddy Rich's Big Band. They are definitely not all playing in different keys. Some really intense music.
Love Noel, I don’t necessarily agree with everything he sais. What he sais about modern pop music and droves of song writers and it all sounding the same is spot on.
Interesting topic, I feel this way about EDM and Rap/HipHop. There’s a few songs that I like, but it’s hard for me to call it “music” when neither plays an instrument.
It's often interesting to hear Noel's opinions towards other bands and different types of Music. I agree with some of his opinions regarding other types of Music, but I'm afraid regarding jazz I don't. I think that if he really understood Jazz music he would change his opinion regarding it. Maybe if he listened to some of Miles Davis music he would possibly have a change of heart
If you’re looking for complete approval for your taste in music you won’t find it from anyone. Forget what anyone else thinks about what you listen to and enjoy for yourself if you can groove to it
@@mikehunt4023 Or maybe i pretty much like and listen to or can listen to every other genre of music except Jazz as i personally think it's shit and don't get it
Read about it. It falls under many genres, saying you dont like jazz is like saying you dont like the word assocation, there will absolutely be jazz you like there is so much of it and its all so different. Oasis used chord progressions and chords which are basically jazz at times, if you ever hear dominants, diminished chords, augmented chords, maj7's in a pop song... thats basically jazz chords, those jazz musicians pioneered the use of them, and showed people how to wrote more interesting songs with them. Most pop music is triads, 4/4 time and verse/chorus/verse/chorus/middle 8/chorus structure. Its a formula Noel absorbed and used (without even realising) his whole career. Thats great if you want radio friendly songs, but what about artistic expression? what about experimentation and boundary pushing? Classical musicians did this until modern classical declined in popularity, now the experimentation is done by mainly jazz, metal and progressive bands. These are the most advanced level music genres, you will be challenged and you will also be rewarded.
@@fgdsfgsdfgdsfgdfgsdfgsdfgs8679 Yeah, there are different styles of Jazz of which some I don't completely dislike and I will listen to more see if my opinion can be changed
terry miller So is Metal. Think of how people like Brian Johnson and James Hetfeild are about the music not the popularity. I suggest you watch thier interview. They are very humble people. Especially Brian Johnson.
R3dd1sh Ch33se easy now! Lol. I don't mean bad attitude. I don't think Noel is truly arrogant. I think be just goofs for kicks. I believe he is actually very humble when it comes to the music. I've always laughed anyway. He gives his honest opinion. Most popular music is contrived and just for money. Pretty much all he really says.
What year was it that Noel started having his eyebrows done? I imagine it will correlate with the worsening of Oasis' music. We can maybe start referring to albums like Don't Believe the Truth and after as the "Post-plucking era".
@@kanelfc98 but they can’t really make music about the Irish lifestyle can they? Can Americans start flying the Union Jack? Cause American blood doesn’t exist if it isn’t where you are born, which I guess means Americans don’t exist.
@@dafriendlyghost and also it’s not a multi generational thing like saying all Australians are British criminals. Noel’s mother and father are simply both fully Irish, who happened to live in Manchester
I love practically all forms all music from fucking classical.to punk and everthing in between.. mainly dance, hip hop and rock but basically me ears love anything with a decibel
The funniest thing about this video (even though it is hilarious) are the fucking comments. I love all the genres he was ripping into. He's flat out triggered all corners of the music sphere. Legend.
About Jazz, it's always the same shit when people talk about it. If it's not in a simple measure and if it doesn't stay in the same key all the time people suddenly don't understand it. The problem is most people don't even try, they don't try to understand it. Sure, Jazz isn't for everyone. But it's a bit like eating fries or mcdo all the time. Fries and mcdo are great, it's simple, it tastes good. But if you have it fuckin all the time and nothing ever chances you sometimes would like to have something a bit more. And if you're content with fries and mcdo than that's fine but if you're through with it and want something more then that's jazz for you compared to pop or most other radio music. Good jazz is music unshackeled, free from constraints (some jazz styles more than others especially post war era jazz). Pop music basically is music in a straight jacket with just a tiny bit of wiggle room for variation. Btw, you can instantly tell he knows shit about jazz. The way he speaks about it is like he's talking about pure free jazz, heavy avantgarde shit like what John Coltrane did in his later era. That's like me talking about rock in the craziest prog version available (the RIO movement, Zheul prog rock and shit like that) and then saying rock music is an unstructured mess of guitar sounds. In no way does Big Band or Swing music sound like Noel is describing. Even the more complex Bebop hot jazz is fast and exciting and you marvel at the mastery of the players and complexity of good Bebop. Or the very relaxing Cool Jazz sound, often very dreamy and chill. Or the crazy Miles Davis or Herbie Hancock funky Fusion Jazz sounds of the 70s. Just like you can marvel at the mastery of top guitar players playing a god like riff you can do the exact same with Jazz. John Cotrane masterly playing his sax so fast and switching between keys like a rabbit on speed with Giant Steps where even a great piano player like Tommy Flanagan has trouble keeping up. So much good stuff in jazz.
I'm not a big fan but I enjoyed him last night ( on TV) But very limited knowledge about other types of music it would seem! What he says about jazz is humorous but hopeless!! Stick to what you know about Noel
derryl texaga Well, i mean. I love Oasis and Blur, but Blur isn’t better than Oasis, but Oasis isn’t better than Blur. If you tell me to pick only one, fuck you
Josh Reidy he loves Nirvana, and so should everyone, because they invented their own way of playing, and Kurt has his own special way of playing his music, but yeah, the whole pessimistic attitude thing is bang on
Noel (and Liam) are an enigma.... I feel that as a Northern person myself, I'd like to go for a bevvy with them and have a proper good old chat cos they're so down to Earth and I feel that I can relate to them. But then on other interviews they'll say something that makes me think that they're nobheads lol.
Liam and Noel are probably the most important musicians right now because they're the only ones telling it how it is. "It's not about how load you shout, rock-'n'-roll is the way you talk the way you walk, how you smoke, how you drink, how fit your girlfriend is" it's genius and true.
He makes a distinction between rock and rock and roll which is just an arbitrary point that has no basis in reality. I love Oasis but I cant imagine how insufferable Noel must be to be in band with
@@chrissmith3668 I do agree with you. I don't like Noel I just like his music. Liam is the one I like and really respect but I have to agree with his point. However pointless you think it may be, it means something to me and probably a lot of other people. I certainly agree with him despite the fact I think he's a hypocrite. I can see where you're coming from though. Down to opinion I guess
